I feel like the dad hat (imo, should just be called the OG baseball cap) will always be a classic. People have been rocking the Polo ones for ages and those never go out of style. I think the dad hats with the random logos or phrases have faded a bit, but the actual shape of the dad hat is timeless
I wear dad hats with flat brims. When I curve them, top of my head looks small. I have a triangle/square/oblong face shape (almost similar to Henry cavill, Channing Tatum). Flat brims all day!
Coming from someone on the east coast, I feel like Schoolboy Q had a huge influence (2011-2014?) on bucket hats making a resurgence over here. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I swear there was a period around the early 2010s where everyone was wearing beanies, but like loose on the top of their head. Later on it transitioned to fisherman beanies.
Ball caps have been an essential part of my wardrobe since I was in middle school and I’ve been collecting them for years. I would definitely say that we’re kind of living in a ball cap renaissance as of now; I see people rocking all the different styles of hats everywhere and as a collector it’s cool af to see. I will say that I think you overlooked the unstructured 5 and 6 panels and the all over embroidery fitteds that are hot right now. Either way the one thing I’ve learned about ball caps is that you can make any type look good as long as you style it well and rock it with confidence. My bad for rambling lol, but I appreciate you covering this topic ✊
Vintage snapbacks were a big factor in 2011-2014 too such as Sports specialties, Logo Athletic, Starter, Needles, etc. I collected a lot of vintage snapbacks and there was a big community among wearing these snapbacks. I remember some of these hats sold for $300 and up!
Bro I found a lakers and trailblazers Sports specialties scripts at the thrift store and paid $6 for both, cleaned and restored them, and flipped them for $120. I miss those days. I probably should’ve kept those now that I think of it.
Bro there’s tons of them on eBay. Some are even new old stock. I got myself a Yankees and a Dodgers gray brim. They are honestly amazing and most are made of American made wool.
In NY they been made a come back.. We was rocking grey brims with the patches back in 2009-2010 up till maybe last year or couple years ago now it’s the pink & blue brims with patches that’s in style for us
I think past 2019, people are moving past streetwear trends and more in developing their own styles. Lots of 70s-90s influence with bucket hats, tie-dye, and thrifting (Lots of DIY too with). People are getting into high fashion and archive fashion, less supreme and more margielas or rafs. Hats wise, people be wearing berets, bandanas, beanies, buckethats, etc
All that shit you listed is just more trends bro, lol. Archive shit is a huge trend, and don't get me started on all the women wearing berets with similar vintage looks. It'd be more their own style if those people wore that stuff in a time when a ton of other people weren't also wearing those styles...
U r the only one talking about al the shit I been stashing for the last 15-20 years I got the gibarou ;fitted hats;g shocks ;air force’s Og js ,icecream ,bbc ,evisu, lrg;dam bro ;it ain’t easy being our selfs but now all of it is back 💣🤯🍾🥳 take that haters !
Been through all these phases, just finished the D2 ICON cap phase and have now moved onto the Palm Angels caps that have come out recently that are more like the Supreme camp/5 panel caps. Fit my small head really well! 😂
Bought my first five panel box logo Supreme hat back in 2007. At the London store of all places. It was only $30 back then! Still got it, prollie worth a grip. But never letting it go! Five panel/military hats have been a thing for me since the 90s. DaDa Supreme (before Supreme!), brands like the short lived Third Rail, and Mos Def/Talib’s Black Star got me on this style. Funny how it trickled into mainstream streetwear over the years.
In Europe, simple Yankees and LA caps are very popular atm, some years ago it was Chicago Bulls that was 🔥 And when I was a kid i remember it was Raiders caps that was trending.
fun fact the guy with the supreme camp hate was one of my homies in high school like 9 years ago lol. Never expected to see them in a Keezy video in 2021 lmaooo
Bro no joke I have a memory of watching that video of your homie way back in the day trying to convince myself to drop $100 on my first Supreme hat lmao, bought the hat after re watching that video of your homie a bunch of times, funny ass shit
The cleanest custom 5950 hats were made by Rock-n-jocks circa 2009. They were similar to the side patch caps of now, they just didn’t have a patch. They were really subtle 2-tone CW w different UV colors. I had a Brooklyn Cyclones w a cowhide UV. 🔥🔥
So I’m a hip hop artist about to do some merchandise with hats for the first time, what kind of hats do you recommended I should use? And what colors? The company offers 15 different colors but I don’t know if I should get all or stick to black, blue, red with different color fonts
I will always wear fitted / stretchfit, adidas, structured, black with white logo. Fashion is about what you wanna wear and making it look good, not wearing what everyone else does. It all comes back around eventually.
I was first introduced to Fashion during the Swag era (2010-2013) and I COULD NOT wear fitteds cause I remember the whole Fuck Fitteds mentality on Facebook and Twitter lol. I just started appreciating and wearing fitteds in 2020.
Chrome hearts truckers were actually hot since 2007. Around the time of the bape and bbc truckers...CH got it made in the US, OEM by company called Otto...used to retail for not more than USD 100 or GBP 70....different story today though...
I remember finding and rocking vintage snap backs from the thrift stores back in ‘08 /09 and no one was on that hype yet. The next years everyone had the remakes and my collection at the time was a mix of new and vintage.
boy stop. you aint in street politics like that. tryna say something and you dont even know wtf your talking about. quit tryna act like you know the streets like that. and if you got some shit to say we can meet up somewhere in LA. shut your mouth about stuff you don't know you little punk.
Hats from the N**** Leagues (yes it seems RU-vid is censoring that) were also popular in the late 90s and early 2000s, particularly the Grays caps. The switching of team colors was referred to as 2 Tone Caps by New Era. I started collecting caps in 2002 or so when I was in high school. People were just collecting caps for the hell of it, regardless of city. That started before ‘05. Hip Hop really drove the cap collection craze of the early 00s. But once I became more of a Mets fan, I started strictly collecting Mets caps. I think some of your dates are wrong. Snapbacks started becoming popular before 2010. Also, Supreme was old news in NYC by the time it caught fire everywhere else.
Very thorough and informative video. I am a veteran and have been looking for a source for exceptionally well-made hats that Veterans would grab. Most of the hats that I've seen are ugly and make the person wearing them look like they don't care what they look like. NOT TRUE. I'm a Green Beret vet who was also a " grunt" paratrooper before I was assigned to SF. Many units in the Army have adopted the use of baseball style hats for their fatigue uniform everyday use specialty units and we love it. But we can't seem to find real quality and design that says: Elite, "STRAC", Military, Served proudly and are honored to have served with others who love America. If you would ever do some investigation and research into this area of headware, I believe you would grab a whole new following of dedicated viewers. Thanks for taking the time to do your videos on this subject. If it weren't for the quality of this one, I'd pretty much decided to quit looking for hats/caps intended to enhance the appearance of the one wearing it, not make them look like another generation of "unique" self-indulgent spoiled teenagers that want to "stand-out" no matter how bad they have to look to gain attention. Keep it up, I've become a subscriber.
I been noticing a lot of new brands releasing a lot of trucker hats (La Ropa, San Juan, mahwastudios and of course chromehearts) also been seeing a growing trend of fitted hats with different color undervisors (pinks, blues, reds etc) but that trend might be a little more niche to just the fitted community.
Even in 2021, and into 2020, I’ll still wear my snapbacks with the green underbrims. I simply like them. But I’m starting to see others aren’t wearing them as much. In fact I don’t see them in stores as much anymore. Maybe I’m the weird one out.
Mitchell and ness did the upside down thing first. KTH just execute it better. And that pinwheel shit will only make a comeback but not with MLB. We’ll probably get some street wear companies to do it. But by the time new era gets a hold of the wave it’s already played out
The newest trend i'm noticing making a comeback is people putting letters and words on their hats. Hats like the supreme pirates and tigers hat and that type lettering. If its not fully back yet just wait a few months it will be huge again
once dad hats came to my attention, everything else -- besides snapbacks -- became irrelevant. i only ever wore snapbacks most of my life before dad hats tho. i remember my parents got me a couple fitted caps growing up, but i never really liked them at all. and i wore them to school and shit anyways cause i was trying to fit in. 🤦🏼♂️ then i tried buckets for a minute too, when schoolboy and joey were first starting to get on. which was like late high school / post high school for me. but i found they just didn't go with everything. but dad hats and snapbacks bruh... you can wear dad hats and snapbacks with damn near anything. shit, you could probably wear a dad hat or a snapback with a suit if you wanted to. 🤣
Surprised you didn't mention the Aime Leon Dore fitteds, that's all archive IG rocks lol (though I guess this somewhat falls under your last point about solid color hats)
Bucket Hats, Fisherman Beanies and Carhartt Beanies are ones you forgot IMO. Also remember that weird short period from like 2013-2016 where people were unironically wearing those round brimmed hats?? Those wide brimmed cowboy fedoras- not the "internet/gamer/reddit" kind.
i always intrested in this caps and living in 3rd world country this caps are too expensive but since i found that i can get this caps by thrifiting i start to collect them one by one haha , anyway nice vid man you ear a new subsriber
