Big yes - and this is really the bottom line. People get too caught up in the minutia - The point is when I was a kid I had these goals, which I eventually surpassed but they kept me focused when I went in and felt like goofing off I always had my goals.
Love your content, and definitely agree with having to gain weight to get stronger. That’s something I’ve found to be super true especially as of the last couple years. For years prior I tried to stay at 160, but always plateaued. Now that I’m 180+ progress is moving nicely again.
This has hit home as I am way short of all of these standards . I wish this sort of info had been available to me all 10/15 years ago when I started training
This is a great video. I’m a long way away from these numbers but I’m gonna write them down and make it my goal to achieve them. Keep up the great vids. Fantastic info as always.
Now I gotta check my DB rows for strictness cause I’m nearly there on that one 😆 (100 lbs for 11 last session). The rest of them have a ways to go, I hope I don’t have to get above 180 (I’m 5’8) to hit them since I wanna be lean (~10%) and jacked lol. Also wished pull or chin-ups were included.
@@keovezo Haha, I’m just a green intermediate lifter not ready still finding my way I ain’t ready to start talking to people like some kind of authority on fitness 😂
Great video, although somewhat arbitrary these give a good wake up call for beginners. From what I've seen the squat is a little low and the press is a little high, I might throw in a chin up instead of a curl too, probably aiming for a total of 120kg x 10 on it. Awesome 👍
I always prefer these not to be absolute; to be stated in percentages of one's bodyweight. For example, in men: Squat: 2 x BW x 5 Bench: 1.5 x BW x 5 DL: 2.5 x BW x 5 Overhead press: 1 x BW x 5 Barbell curl: 0.60 x BW x 8
You prefer them to not be absolute because a bw% makes you look better. We understand. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UvGTlUt7Y3k.html
@@danieledwards9856 I've seen the video and subscribed to the channel. I basically agree with everything he says. We need to take into account that different people have different goals. I was just talking about "general" strength standards for gym enthusiasts. If the goal is to be as strong as you can be, it's a different story.
@@iAmDe123 lol trust me it's not. If we are talking seated ohp then that's easy peasy. Standing strict press of 80kg at a body weight of 70kg ? Not so much
The dumbbell row looks the most achievable for me - the rest I actually don't think are possible. After nearly four years of consistent training I'm at 5 x 80kg squat, 6 x 65kg bench, 6 x 107.5kg deadlift. Currently a smidge under 80kg bodyweight at 6'1" and around 17% body fat. Seems like my genetics for size are better than my strength genetics - I've seen plenty of guys who are stronger than me but look much smaller. My chest is probably my strongest looking muscle group, despite my weak bench press.
Yeah there's no evidence to support any kind of genetic ceiling and particularly not at these lifts. Not trying to call you out here brother but that doesn't sound like it's a genetic problem.
There's definitely a genetic component - I've got pretty bad leverages for strength (long limbs, short torso) and am prone to injury (shoulder impingements, lower back injuries and tendonitis) which has slowed my progress. I also didn't start lifting until I was 34. I guess I'm trying to be realistic - if I can get to 2-3-4 plates I will be very happy.
This is very arbitrary and Overhead Press compared to other lifts is ridicously harder. You also didn't specify if it is TnG or paused or resets at the bottom for OHP. You overdid it a lot for women. Find me one natural women that is not fat that can do those lifts.
Good video! At what body weight are these Strenght standards calculated (100 kg male)? Why do they very rarely multiply x BW? Is it the case that the bench weight should be 140 kg max before you can have moderate muscles?
@@mylowilson6164 Very possibly you are right .. and BW x is an excuse for smaller guys (like me) .. but I think a 2 x BW bench would be enough for anyone for hypertrophy?
I hit these at 82.5kg I've seen people hit them higher and lower. Either way - remember the intention - Have some lofty lifetime goals to keep you focused on the important stuff. Not everyone will land at the same point.
