You do a wonderful job feeding your family on a very reasonable budget amount. Plus, having home bottled milk, eggs, vegetables, eat birds, etc really extends that money. What you save must be in the thousands of dollars a year even after paying feed costs.

It's so interesting to me how different areas of the country are opposite of each other. I used to live in the NW. Weekly sales ads were my friend. Walmart was more expensive. Here in the Panhandle of TX Walmart beats sales ads at the regular grocery stores every single time.

my mother grew up with pigs and chickens and 2 bulls and a couple cows and some ducks and a banting rooster yes im 50 as a kid i used to ride on the red tractor when i visited

I worked at Menards ( 22 years ) in Central Illinois retiring in May of 2020 doing inventory for 17 of those years people were always amazed at the amount of food the store carried.

my mothers family all have homemade farms in canada what everone does is grows there own vegtables they bhave been doing this since the 1930s in hadford everyone grows vegtables on there land they bought and shares it my one uncle grows carrots and potatoes to share with his neighbors and they share there stuff back

Hello Janice I got a great deal on chicken thighs todsy at aldi I got 7 family packs of chicken coming out to 22 pounds of thighs for $29 that will give us 8 dinners for my family of chicken that was my good deals for the week you are right aldi's sale was not great this week! the lye soap used to wash things my mother said like the dishes and right until my grama died she always had us use a bed pan in winter because right until she died she still kept that out house she silly but she replaced the well with a working sink and a new kitchen my mothers two brothers helped make

Janice, you have taught your children how to succeed in this world without being worldly. They know how to be self-sufficient, cook, clean, properly care for animals, work together, pray together, worship together, socialize with others, and be terrific hosts when you have people at your home. I realize that you and your husband are a team; but, you are at home and are an amazing homemaker, Momma, and wife.

Janice you did so good i love leaveing Walmart with money left. For a lot of people thay find that hard to do with the cost of food and household items. I saved a lot at walmart i am liveing on soup and salad i also made a cabbage soup ( We must be reading each others mind.) I have soup left over for 2 more days.

store and they kept some animals as pets and they had two horses bunny and molly and a wooden carriage that my mother and her family rode in to go to town thats northbattlford and they ate the vegtables they grew and some they sold to the people for money the same as the eggs

I've been struggling to put together a Passover and Unleavened Bread feast week long "menu". It's gonna be an absolutely no frills feast this year for sure, not any unnecessary food at all. It's just going to be enough to stop the hunger pains once a day for the entire week, nothing in between. I don't know if I've missed it before or what, but in your last grocery haul video you mentioned having to go through the tenth of the month. Now your math makes sense.

oh know my uncle has a green tractor and a grain sorter and silos to store the grain some of my family grow canola seeds to make canola oil okay well as a kid growning up my moms parents ate some of there farms animals and sold some for money they had a homemade meat shop before walmart invented must be similar to your ten box

I love your system I am not able to do this we live pretty rural and stores are an hour away so we consolidate and shop once a month but we do go to 4 different stores for the best deals, and once a month we get azure standard pick up

I don't see much ripe bananas at my Kroger's. Some shoppers might get to them before me. I bought bananas, cuties and two kinds of potatoes for potassium. A single orange was well over a dollar. They must not think of people who need to keep their potassium up. Janice did Shawn install you a phone on a pole like on Green Acers tv show of years ago? Enjoyed your shopping 👍

anyways summer coming up hmmm go to the hardware store in your town yes okay you could get seeds to grow watermelons potatoes carrots all kinds of your own food if you have your own land and when i go visit my relatives my uncle willy put in a big apple tree yes this is good stuff and would help out your kids in many ways and they would have fun helping to grow the food i have fun growing my flowers every year i always put in a nice flower bed okay

We have two grocery stores here in Troy. Piggly Wiggly adds 10%. I rarely shop there. They are not that cheap. We have a Publix which isn't cheap. We also have a Wal-Mart and many times cost is higher than Publix. Publix has the best meat. We have a Dollar General and a Dollar Tree. Have to go about 50 miles to Sam's Club whether we go North or South of us. Having watched your shopping videos has helped me learn new ways to shop. I am 80 and my husband is 79. My late husband and I raised three children on a farm in Missouri. We always had a huge garden.

She mentioned once in a haul video that they use the washable/re-usable kind. She does buy some disposable types if they are traveling. Janice, please correct me if I misunderstood what you said on the video. One of my daughters uses the washable type. We have liquid sanitizer to put in loads like that. They saved me money when I needed them too. She made her money back in three months.

Yes, Susan, you're absolutely right! We use cloth products most of the time, but I do keep disposables on hand for when we're away from home or when disposable might be more convenient. Because of that, I only have to purchase them a few times a year. When I do purchase them, it just comes out of the regular $1100 a month grocery budget. I include them just like I would paper towels, ziploc bags, or toilet paper - as a household product within the same budget category. :)

I do like you do, I am a single 62-year-old and my budget is 198.00 for a month. We don't have a Kroger but we have a Giant Eagle, Walmart, and Aldi. Why compare to Walmart? Why not show against Kroger?

I just chose to compare to Wal-Mart because those stores are available just about anywhere across the country and they tend to be the "one stop" shopping place for people I know in real life. :)

I just checked and strawberries at my Walmart are 2.32 so I'll definitely be getting some at Aldi! I was kind of surprised because I am in Missouri but Aldi still has Walmart beat in my town.

We hatched these out using our incubator. As far as I know, none of our ducks have tried to set on a nest of eggs so far this year. :)

Miss Janice please do not take this the wrong way, I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful or anything in any way, I am genuinely curious and have to ask. I know everyone does what they can with what they have and I know you're helping a lot of people find good deals because of their limited budgets. But for you personally how do you feel about buying non organic food, gmo's, pesticides, factory meat, preservatives, apeel? First, are you aware of these things with the food you purchase? Second, if you know these are in and on the food you purchase, are you concerned with these products at all and the harm it causes, especially young developing children? The pesticide load alone and the damage it causes people, animals and the earth is worth switching to organic food. I am wondering how you feel about all this?

From what I can find online Kroger has stopped printing sale flyers (for mailing as of last year) but it might affect in store flyer availability in future

Ooooh, very interesting, Melinda! My Kroger still had the rack for the paper ads, but it has been empty for the last two weeks. I really like having the paper ad to show you on the videos, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's something that they do away with. Thanks for letting me know! :)
