This animation demonstrates how the Stretta radiofrequency therapy is performed to surgically treat reflux without incisions. The Stretta system delivers low power, low temperature radiofrequency energy to the LES muscle. This non-ablative energy is delivered to multiple different sites causing tissue remodeling resulting in improved barrier function and fewer random relaxations that cause reflux symptoms. RF energy has been shown to thicken the musculature and increase the size and amount of smooth muscle fibers in the treatment zone. The result is a measurable strengthening of the LES and a reduction in transient LES relaxations but without causing stricture nor fibrosis.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROCEDURE FOR GERD in my experience. I HAD IT DONE 11 MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS DESTROYED MY LIFE! My throat has developed all these issues from unbearable pain, burning, to not being able to speak without pain. This procedure should be banned or at the very least patients should be thoroughly warned of the serious risks.

you had the stretta? did you have all those symptoms before this procedure, and the procedure did not work for you? it sounds like you had things go wrong for this to be the result, because stretta has worked well on lots of patients - I'm sorry you've gone through this

@@sarahok6589 not only did the Stretta not work for me, it’s caused terrible complications with my throat. My reflux is worse. I have non stop pain, pressure, burning, in my throat. I had to do voice therapy because I was losing my voice. It still hurts to speak 11 months later. I cannot stress enough how the Stretta has destroyed my quality of life in ways I could have never imagined.

@@8888movietime I have not had any other procedures. They are trying to figure out if I had any pre-existing gastric issues that may have led to complications after the stretta now.

@@salmilanese2185 i'm getting the nissen fundplication instead of the stretta - so good to know what you've been through, in aiding my decision. my insurance only covers niseen fundplication anyway, but if stretta was better I was going to pay out of pocket for it. i have a LLES and a hital hernia I hope the surgery helps. Sucks when medical things go wrong that are meant to help. I had to have a lung surgery when I was younger due to an appendicitis, I'm not kidding. appendix burst, pus rolled under my diaphragm and caused a collection of pus, and they did so many things wrong that I ended up having to have major surgery at 14. and still have problems to this day. you're not alone. medical misadventure sucks. keep me updated with how things go
