The wire that has multiple conductors and the old gunky stuff on the outside, you can just strip the stuff on the outside with a knife it comes off very easily. Just slice it down the center for the length and pull it off with gloved hands. You twist up the uninsulated neutral wire that's wrapped around the other two wires so it's one solid piece. You toss that in the pile, then send the other two conductors into the stripping machine

I recently started getting a large volume of 750mcm aluminum. Many local yards won't even buy it insulated. I buy it from demolition companies. I pay netween $.15 and $.20 a pound for it. You can strip 150+ pounds an hour, by hand. I have found that 85%-92% of the weight of 500 and 750 mcm alumimum wire is aluminum. Some yards I sell it as alumimum clips and some as extrusion, either way I can spend a day, strip a half a ton of it and make $.60 a pound. So thats $150 in material costs, 8-10 hours of my time sell the alumimum for $540 and make a nice $390 profit, $350 if you factor in fuel and consumables. People don't want to deal wirh it, but with the right supply and some trial and error with stripping, there is decent money to be made.

Thanks man Im sitting on about 600 pounds right now of aluminum ec wire gonna buy a strip miester and strip it all next spring.

I agree! I find quite a bit of it and my scrap yard I frequent here in Tampa, Fl pays $.20 insulated but $.80 bare… huge difference!! So I usually save it up for a while and strip a few piles of it when I have a down day. And honestly, thanks to my scale operator there where I take my non-ferrous stuff told me when I had a small tub full and was gonna sell it insulated… he told me I’d make more stripping it! And I must tell you, after going to a few different yards around town when I first started scrapping, him looking out for me was awesome!! So from then on, I take all my scrap there and nowhere else! They are always honest and have my best $$ in mind! Therefore, I always tip him and any helpers that help me unload.

Thank you because I got almost 2 trash can filled with that thick version of wire that same aluminum one you showed from my job site they gave it to me because no one else wanted it they were throwing it away and I saw the opportunity

I try to take into consideration not the percentage increase but the dollar amount. Doubling my money is great but if I'm only going from 30 to 60 cents per pound, my effort is worth much less than upgrading from $1.50 up to $3.00 per pound.

@@KillerKolt44 600 pounds or 6000 doesn't matter. when you get 30 cents or 1,50 per pound for the stripping only i would rather get 1,50. And on top of that, i haven't had much aluminum cable's but the few pieces solid cable i had were tough to strip compared to Copper

Time always = Money...but sometimes saving those items when you are slow makes up for the smaller profit margin.

Honestly that kind of aluminum wire is difficult to strip. The insulation is very tough and rigid

Ya gotta leave it in the sun for an hour or use a heat gun nd invest in a wire stripper of some sort

Leave it in a black contractor trash bag In the sun on a hot day. Don't waste time or energy using a heat gun. Use a free resource. Also a stripping machine works great

Tom, how would you strip that large cable? I have the thick cable but it does not fit into my Stripmeister and a blade does very little. I am stripping the smaller aluminum cable.
