Trying out a new to me camera a panasonic DMC-ZS40 with auto focus it is working very well focusing from several feet down to a very close macro distance with no problems the video quality is much improved so during these last 3 videos this camera has been tested. The plan is to make a 4 element Cubical quad antenna for 6 meters when warmer weather arrives obtaining the parts and preparing them for assembly is the order of the day .... It is presently 14 degrees F today 2-18-2022 and we have several inches of snow and when it is warmer weather a short tower will be put up for this antenna and also will serve as a center support for dipoles for HF operation so I am waiting for Spring and warm weather. This video shows how to remove easily the very tough high temperature enamel from enamelled copper wire used for winding electric motors I want to strip these back at least 6 inches to allow for tuning of the elements for best operation . The 4 pieces of #14 enamelled copper wire should be cut to the proper lengthplus a little extra and stripped about 6 inches for making the Quad elements . I thought of burning off the enamel using my propane torch and tried it this worked so good I decided to make a very short "BobsTips" video. This method worked very good and was quick and easy with the # 14 wire . Most likely it will not work
on very thin enamelled wire you could however try using a small cigarette lighter or even a match for very small wire to remove the enamel but try some small pieces first for practice ... please note I have not tried to do small wire stripping this way .

I'm sorry to hear about your tower, but you're a wise man to have thought about decommissioning it before it became a problem. I'm sure a lot of families are left to deal with such things when it's too late, in their time of loss. I think you'll be very happy with wire antennas! Thanks for your tips, keep 'em coming!

Hi Bob, I heard about ur tower coming dwn. Glad it worked out as an early plan for U. Thanks for the great new tip on removing the enamel. Regards, Harry (St Joe) N9CQX

Stirling ... what a great first name not so common like Bob Hi Hi The day after the tower came down I put up a very simple dipole for 80 and 40 with 2 antennas on one 75 ohm feedline ... this is on the chimney of our low small Ranch style home up about 15 feet at the center it was up a few days I was on 40 CW and heard a guy with a foreign call with a huge pile up calling him I called twice and on the second call he came back to ME what a thrill I then found he was in the Ukraine WOW neat things still happen with Amateur radio... Thank you guys for your comments ... I have so many videos now started making them in 2013 I do it to preserve Ideas and procedures that otherwise may be lost and especially to help other Hams and electronics experimenters with whom I share a common bond especially newbies . 73 ALL and good DX Bob

Would love to see the 6M Quad build!

Yes the quad to me is very interesting especially since I got to know Clarence moore years ago a little at different Ham club meetings sat next to him at the yearly Christmas party at the South Bend Indiana club W9AB he was a great guy and invented the quad to eliminate corona discharge from antennas high in the mountains of South America working on missionary radio stations . At present here it is a matter of gathering parts for the quad which will be for 6 meters just keeping busy the small tower will be going up first probably 30 or 40 feet at the most . 73 Bob

GREAT!! I need to do the same for TINY (~30 AWG) magnet wire...with a complication...I am making LITZ wire, and need to remove about an inch of insulation on a batch of about 20 twisted wires where I have "flowered" them out at the end. I think heat would burn the thin wire. This was the first video I found and was wondering if you might have any suggestions. I am thinking that it may have to be dissolved somehow???? Thanks for the video, THUMBS UP AND A SUBSCRIBE!!

Question, Does the enamel coating change the Velocity constant of the wire for antenna use? Carl

Carl I am sure it does have a little effect but not much I have made dipoles with single strand enamelled wire , Single strand bare wire ,multi strand bare wire and insulated wire like used in house wiring the solid and multi stranded too with good success ... there is usually some cutting and trying with wire antennas BUT a good antenna tuner will do a lot to provide a good match . To me an antenna analyzer is a must have instrument . A combination of 80 and 40 dipoles separated maybe 20 feet at the ends and fed with a single 75 ohm coax is my favorite wire antenna setup because it is simple, easy to put up and tunes many bands using an antenna tuner .I get the dimensions for dipoles and other antennas at the K7MEM website the dimensions are usually very close to what is needed . years ago we did not worry so much about SWR using something to show RF going to the antenna like a light bulb in series with the antenna then removing it when we had the transmitter tuned for maximum . we just tuned for maximum output HI HI these days if that is done the modern rig will reduce the RF power way down even shut it off completely so I like to see the antenna and tuner have an SWR below 1.5 to 1 at resonance as shown on the antenna analyzer THEN connect the rig . 73 Bob
