Maybe houses used to be framed that way…? My engineer required Simpson HDU5 hold downs every 8 feet. This home was built in 2022.

Yep. At that point, it makes sense to post frame it. Engineers do love to throw an excessive amount of Simpson hardware at them now because they're pre-engineered.
