I’ve tried this a number of times by now, but I have a lot of things out of place in my life, and I get distracted easily. I wish I had people around me that I could connect with and talk to so I could do this and have more of a benefit. I am too isolated. My days are depressing and anxiety ridden. But that’s because I live in a dark reality and I see everything for what it is. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Of course that could be altered a bit with different lighting, but still, if you were in my shoes with my sight, you’d understand. I will try to do this exercise more often regardless.

I meditate daily 🧘‍♀️ but, and it doesn't mitigate this social anxiety; rather, I couldn't be **more** **free** unless I'm alone, or in Solitude 🥳 (egocentric anxiety)? Label it as Schizoid, Autism isolation, Traumatic Brain Injury symptomatic or whatever; life has traumatized me to be, spiritual #hardmonkmode and I "need" a very limited amount of human interaction (the delivery guy and RU-vid).

I like the Tao well most of it one quote? ' not noticing I am where I want to be' because you don't weigh the goal or object you truly get there one more for self? Being is born from non-being it helps me understand the stress I would put myself through

me too honestly if your sensitive to things yes I now look at it sometimes differently Taoism helped when they were saying if you weigh things to much you don't get to the goal you want So yeah the forest for the trees for me anyway take care

I completely agree. People drain me with their simple and yet negative conversations with one another. There is no open mindedness and it drains my energy speaking about things that have no meaning.

"Self absorbed " perfect way to describe it. You do know that energy your feeling transfers on to us . Your like I was you notice it but your not aware once you learn about spirituality it will all be clear . I use native American practice of using white sage to smoke cleanse myself .

I've been anti-social as long as I knew it was a thing. Decades now. Has nothing to do with anxiety. I just have little interest in dealing with most people. Only realized in the last few years why. Finally moved to the country 5 years ago. Should have done it 20 years ago.

Not putting anyone on a pedestal 😉... but thought I'd add my two bits here. I am the least likely person to watch Russell Brand videos... but the guy hooked me. He broke through my bias and I really enjoy and have taken to his meditations . While I don't always agree his social commentary, I do always enjoy his sense of humor and his interviews. It makes me think about the world through different perspectives. So, thanks for putting yourself out there Russell... you are singing to people outside the chior 😏❤

Hi, I wouldn't describe it as social anxiety but more of a I couldn't be bothered anymore. I find people so uninteresting so detached so false so concerned with being correct and worried about what others think about them. The art of conversation is being lost as most seem to struggle with being spontaneous. Other than being with close friends I just couldn't be bothered with chatting with others like back in the 80's..

I like deep conversations and it’s really really hard to find people who want to get deep. So most of the time I just stay home with my husband. He can get deep but it’s limited and he gets bored with the conversation after about 15 minutes. So I just mainly play my guitar and write poems. I’m not lonely just need more from people. If I can’t get that then I prefer not to “hang out”.

I almost cried when he said"what your body is trying to tell you?" I pressed this abuse Marks from middle school and I realized the anxiety is placed on where I got hurt the most. it's like I've been defending or preparing to defend my self from a thing that has stopped happening physically since 8 years ago.

I know exactly what you mean. Trauma is stored in the body. I had no idea how much trauma I had stored until doing this meditation. We hold onto it for protection. It's really hard to let go, when you have been so badly hurt. Sending much love and wishes for healing my friend.

What I have found helpful is to absorb myself in a memory when I felt happy, secure and amazing! I'll share if that helps! I was simply walking back home after playing volleyball at School feeling high and happy and aware how magnificent the light blue haze of the sky looked with the emerging twinkle stars knowing Mum was cooking a favorite dinner of sausage .egg and chips and that Star trek was on the telly that evening! Oh and that it was friday so the weekend was freedom from School! Works every time and I milk it for satisfaction and a feeling of wellbeing!

I've suffered from social anxiety all my life but only realised what it was at 60 ! I'm able workwith it now and the hidden fear of judgement,embarrassing myself and not being liked is fading.Its great!!!

I appreciate that this meditation isn't directly based on pushing away your anxiety and it's physical manifestations but allowing it to flow through you and be felt. I enjoy that anxiety is just the body trying to look out for us. It's a friend who is very real rather than an enemy. Much love.

This is me! I cancel plans all the time. I stay single because it's sooooooo bad. The last year and a half hasn't helped with that. I much prefer to be alone and do my own thing. Geez I couldn't even get through this exercise. I have this unrealistic voice in my head that says I don't have the right to relax or look after myself by taking time for me. This is something I have had to fight for over the years since I was young.

I feel everything comes in cycles in your life due to life circumstances. Some are durable or enjoyable and some are excruciating and painful. We have to learn techniques to ride that rollercoaster ride. There are always new ones to learn and old ones to hang onto. I repeat regularly in trying times 'this too shall pass' it gives me hope and strength taking life day by day x

Really enjoyed this. Recently, since the easing of lockdown, social anxiety for me has become a problem. I feel people I could see when In lockdown (in a bubble) no longer have time, and I get anxious and opt to not take part in social events since restrictions have eased. Crazy. I was once the biggest personality in the room 😢

@@ericamee5285 I have recently just taken baby steps. Later viewing at the cinema with my son when I know it will be quiet. Booked a holiday with him but at a hideaway place. Not busy, and we can take it one step at a time. All the same, its not easy at all. Not at all.

I tried the meditation. It was a struggle at first. I started to cry and forgot to breathe. Then you said to let whatever emotions happen but keep your breathing the same. I then started to focus back on my breathing, still crying, and then some sort of peace came over me... Yes, it did help. Thank you, Russell. Take care, much love, ~Idaho~

Thank you Russell, That was very very helpful. I posted that I had bought a certain book to help me go. I have gone inside myself and been meditating again. That’s the best way forward for everyone in all aspects , no matter how much despair and anxiety is going on. Even 5 mins. I am having support again for my MH and very grateful. I am 12 and a half years in Addiction recovery and will never let anything or one take that from me. It’s incredibly precious. Thank you for all that you do. Namaste 🙏🏻💫 Ps. I would love a Kitten. I lost my old boy Dylan to cancer last year, I miss him so much, I light a candle for him every day. 🐾💫

Expecially since the covid and now that tragedy that happened in Plymouth on Thursday really scared me😔 but I've tried some of your meditation and breathing techniques and they are working! This was powerful, thank you. The idea of listening to the anxiety because it has something to say was so helpful. I realized the fear and anger I have comes from deep wounds, being raised by narcissists, not knowing I was being used and manipulated and not actually loved. The pain that comes from wanting to love and be loved, but not having any trust in the people closest to me.. transferred now in adult relationships. I have no idea how to trust, no wonder I don't want to be around anyone.

Well! That's the first time that my or 'the' anxiety actually abated. I have had medication, counselling , all sorts of techniques thrown at the condition through the years and - Who knew!!! I used to be outgoing and enjoyed going out. I was programmed as a girl to project my image in certain ways. “What will people think” was a standard phrase. At last, I care much less about what other people think about me. You rock, my friend.

once I started to meditate more I became less relatable to others and cannot conversate the same with the common themes and trivial talk. I deleted my social media and that helped. however news outlets and natural disasters keep pulling me into this defeatist attitude that is toxic. all I can do from becoming depressed is to keep turning to my teachers like Mooji, Alan Watts, Eckhart, yourself and others who offer a different perception

I almost had to pause the video at one stage because I was on the verge of a panic attack and nearly lost control emotionally. In the end though, I actually felt like a huge weight was just lifted off my shoulders. First time I've ever given this meditation business a proper try and I'm quite shocked at how powerful it felt. If I could break it down, my occasional social anxiety ususally stems from my general disdain for small talk and "trope-swapping" that passes for conversation. Like some kind of mind-numbing deja vu. That and the fact that I read cues from people that 9/10 times is communicating the very opposite of what they are trying to portray. It can be tiring. On the other hand, thoughtful and honest conversation can energise and inspire.

I suffered from pretty bad SAD as a teenager. The best thing I came up with to help it was to think of the anxiety as a symptom of something. So you don't think of yourself as someone who has social anxiety, but someone who has a symptom of something which is not you yourself. That helped me a great deal anyway.

This really did help, as usual ... always feel so relaxed and at peace during your meditations. We're so lucky you've chosen to share your life hacks to help us find the peace and contentment that we all deserve. You genuinely care about your fans, that is very apparent!! .... I would so love to adopt one of your fur babies, but distance is a problem ... You won't have any trouble finding homes for those kitties 🐈🐾🤍 .... Thanks again Russell. Hi Russell. This is interesting.. I don't think I suffer from social anxiety. I'm a Gemini, like you and I can entertain everyone I come in to contact with and make them comfortable with humour . I met you last summer in your local village shop, and whilst I was overwhelmed to meet my hero, I defaulted to something that i had used for a long time .. Ironically, that was "What would Russell Brand do in this situation?" How funny that I used this strategy with... Russell Brand!! I spent many years working in a studio as a graphic designer, then became a facepainter . This career lasted nearly 30 years, but I hated it, even though I became internationally acclaimed.. I realised that I couldn't stand being around people even though I loved the art. Now I make paintings on canvas alone at home, and I'm happy. I really can't work out if I suffer from social anxiety, or if People just annoy me!

Thank you Russell, I meditate every morning but let myself fill up with stress during the day and this is the first time I took time to connect halfway through my day. Much needed and very helpful. I forgot this would be a meditation video but the algorithm got it right for once :)

That was really helpful. I realised during the meditation when you talked about listening to the anxiety, that it is stronger when I'm going to events with a lot of people I don't know. That perhaps the perceived danger is that I'll be rejected or not welcome.

Yes, the meditation is lovely! My world has definitely become too small, the things I love got shut down during Covid and now I feel like I’ve lost myself again. I’m still in my programs and haven’t relapsed (maybe emotionally I have.) My anxiety and depression snuck up on me again about two months ago and are back full force. I did go to a doctor for some meds temporarily. Thank you for your emails and videos
