Struggles Of Dating When You Use A Wheelchair 

i hate when people try to stand up for me, no pun intended.

Trust me I've been woke on this issue since that Zach and Cody episode

Just letting y'all know that sometimes physical disabilities aren't visible. I have severe arthritis in my back and many joint issues but I look normal (when I don't need my canes that is). I can't walk for long periods of time so I have a handicapped sticker. That I use. I get assholes coming up to me (who, admittedly, mean well) telling me not to park in a handicapped spot. I shouldn't have to tell you what my disability is (especially because you can see my sticker/card). I'm not doing anything illegal so buzz off. Side note: I will give up my parking spot if there's no other accessible parking spots and I see someone with a wheelchair or something else that needs unloaded from a car. They need the space to move around more than I do.

Oh my god lmao I relate to way too many things in this. And I especially love when they're like "oh you know, I have a lot of experience with this! My grandma is in a wheelchair too I know all about it!" jesus christ if you're trying to date me please don't compare me to your grandma

+Fresca I am in a wheelchair and I can tell you that I understand that they're only trying to help but this video is meant to show that sometimes it gets too much and it can even be humiliating. Then expressing that can sometimes lead to people calling you things such as "ungrateful" which obviously gets very hurtful

That's why I'm always thankful for my life every single day, because I'm a healthy man.

22 years old, all my life in a wheelchair and i can say that this video is 75% accurate. NEVER GIVE UP people .

They aren't "just trying to help" they're pitying her. The last thing any disabled person wants is pity.

My boyfriend is paralyzed from the sternum down, so he does need help with some things. He was hit by a car that ran a red light 4 years while on his motorcycle. Everyone automatically assumes he was in the military though. I think that's because his build. But we are very quick to correct! I try to let him be independent where he can be and even where can't really because he got that taken away from him and I know it's hard on him!!! So I stand back until he tells me he needs my help!

This is why I hate the stigma of handicap parking when someone who can get out of their car isn't "disabled enough" just because my body for once is having a great day why should I be abused if I get out of a car walking instead of my chair? Disabilities come in all different ways, no ones struggle is ever the same.

My mum has been in a wheelchair for +40 years (spinal injury) and she had been cheated on just because her ex husband didn't want to have her "hold him back" and in other words the women he cheated on her with was able to walk and when they divorced he had told her that it was a mistake to marry her because of the wheelchair and that is something that is so disgusting to me, my mum was 40 when she had me, I'm 18 now and I couldn't be prouder of how strong my mum is and I'm glad that she found my dad who doesn't see a woman on a chair he sees my mum for the woman she is, a wheelchair isnt what makes the person, the person is what makes the person

My friend has a prosthetic leg and this one guy from school saw her at Walmart and was following her and trying to start something so she threw her leg and him. I don't think he knew she had a prosthetic because he left hella fast.

Dating people when you're chronically ill is much the same. I relate to this so so much.

I have limited mobility, so sometimes I need a wheelchair and sometimes I don't, and I've had people think some miracle from Jesus himself happened when I stand up out of my chair for a sec to get something off a high shelf.

My girlfriend is actually in a chair. I always worry that I've been too much sometimes. Watching this video made me instantly cringe and think "well thank god I've never done anything like in this video." Lol, seriously though, I have to pass this along to my girlfriend. She will get a kick out of this.

I have never been in a wheelchair but i can feel their pain with how much they get irritated.

This is all so true. But I'm also sometimes able to walk "normally" but still in a lot of pain and I am still disabled and people do judge when I use handicap spaces. You never know what someone is dealing with so you can't judge them. Not all disabilities are visible

Random Question to the wheelchair users, do you have gadgets? Like, I've heard of wheelchairs that can help you stand but I'm asking about things like a grabby claw on a stick to get things while shopping. I walk with a cane and I'm only 5'1" (vertically impaired) and when i'm in the grocery store I will take the handle and hold the base of the cane and raise it up and knock the box of cereal down. When i'm going towards a door i'll stick my cane in front of me and press the automatic button to open the door for me and I don't even need to slow down, i just walk on through. I keep thinking how annoying it must be to be in a wheelchair and have to roll up to the button, push it, back peddle then peddle through the door. Y'all should try a fancy stick or something. Roll up to the door, close enough for it to swing open, take your trusty stick, press the button ahead of you and roll on through.

I'm having to get a wheelchair to walk long distances (I currently only use a walking frame) and when I get a bit older and go on dates, I think I'm going to stick with the walking frame 😂

I don't know why people act like people with disabilities are completely useless. They're not. If I interact with someone that is disabled I don't automatically step in and help them, I will only help when they ask for it.
