YES, this is very good advice. Starting a new diet can feel like being deprived. Eventually you will just have a day per week that is a rewards day. As opposed to feeling deprived.

Omg this worked for me!!! Finally got the scale to move again! And now I don't really need or choose an off plan snack everyday. Dont feel deprived either. AMAZING solution! GENIOUS!!!!!

POWERFUL. I'm WAS on plan and being so true x3 months but Not losing even the 6 pounds you mentioned a month. I have such a desire to CHEW. because of utter discouragement and a period of stress in my life I compeltely have gone off plan this week. and I gave up. this video has given me hope that maybe if I just gave in to that urge and had just veggies to satisfy that urge to chew until I get past the utter discouragement of not losing and back on track mentally - i'm certainly willing to give it a try. I just wish I could lose then I would never get discouraged with not losing and could perservere.

Sounds like you should join my macros and mindset courses that are starting on August 1. You can still do what you’re doing but it will also help you incorporate balanced choices out of the grocery store so you’re not feeling deprived and then need to chew and then going off track. Thank you so much for this. I have had an amazing journey so far, losing 50 lbs in the past 6 months, but 30 of those came my first 2 months on program. I feel like I've kept falling as the time passes and it's really been a struggle the last few weeks. I think I need to take this approach because I need to own up to the fact that I'm not on the 5&1 right now anyway. I think this is just what I needed to hear. Thank you.

Journaling my story, and asking myself “why do you think that?”, and “what would happen then...?” I Realized that I had never before set a goal and worked to reach it. Losing 77 of the 100 lbs was terrifying ... reaching this goal would have made me someone else...someone I have never met. Though I am not on the 5/1 plan, I am using the fuelings to do intermittent fasting. Reading Chasing Cupcakes, listening to Gwen vids, and EB podcasts. All are transforming my thinking, which is essential to changing my body, and subsequently my life. Thanks for asking! ✌️🥰

I’m not sure if you’ve seen my other videos but I am doing macro and mindset courses to teach people how to eat balance out of the grocery store because when you learn how to eat what you want and pair it correctly with protein within the correct caloric intake, now you don’t feel restricted and you actually stick to what you’re trying to achieve. Thank you for this it’s giving me hope. We’re Caregiving, we’re Super Stressed, tons of family visiting and I miss my fuelings, doing so-so with the lean and green but struggling when a second meal gets brought in. I’ve chosen to keep my eating plan silent due to constant correction regarding my eating plan. I have a hard time at 10am and 3pm fuelings mainly when company is here. You are so right, I’m not in fat burn so …. Keep calories down and keep positive for the time being Thank You again, your talk was so encouraging.

My pain time is usually around noon. I tried to eat my lean and green at noon, but usually I end up eating at around four 430. What I usually end up doing is eating a couple cheese sticks dipped in ranch dressing. I get so guilty and I feel so bad and many times have fallen off for the rest of the day. But your idea of just keeping going with the next fueling is wonderful. That negativity is some thing I need to retrain my brain I am setting myself up for success I made a choice to eat and I have to own it but I don’t have to stay there, I want to stay on the five and one it’s just this is what I need to hear today thank you. Let’s win!!!!!! Wonderful let’s not quit!

Oh yes. You will never white knuckle it through this program. If you’re not listening to something with the mental component at least once a day, your toast. Dial in on that mental component and you’ll start seeing better days stack on top of better days and see more success on the scale.

Thank you so much for this video. I keep seeing all of these videos on here saying that if you cheat at all then you're out of program and you're going to fail, and if you think logically that is just absurd, so to see a coach say what you said in this video was very refreshing! I have been very successful thus far, but when I hit week 7 (16 lbs and counting) I started yo-yoing for some reason and instead of just eating the one bad thing around 4 p.m. which is when I crave food after being in program all day, I just continued the rest of the evening being bad! No more of that, I always thought exactly what you say in this video, but I was in that you cheated mindset and got off track! Thank you so much :-)

Yes!! This is exactly what happens to me. I’ve been on plan for 10 months and lost 86 lbs but have been struggling lately and it’s always at the same time of day and I’ll grab something and then ruin the rest of the day because I did that. This is very healing to know. I have been guilty about not having the expected progress as I approach my goal weight. With the holiday season and winter here, I have little control over some cravings. But it is comforting to know that I can allow myself to give in to the pain point. My thoughts when I give in to the craving is: I find myself making lame excuses about not having sufficient protien for dinner, just this once. Thanks I love this video. Gwen, this was so very helpful! Do you have a video or resource that describes the difference in fat burn versus calorie deficit? I am new and haven’t understood why Optavia stressed fat burn, but then only gives you 800-1000 calories, to which you would lose weight anyways. I hope that question makes sense! I am concerned about the low calories and wondering how fat burn falls into that.

This is from nutrition support -IN DEPTH EXPLANATION OF FAT-BURN and WHY our program ROCKS!!! Understanding the Science of FAT BURN Is essential to your success! This is from our amazing Nutrition Support Dept. Ketosis refers to a metabolic state where your body is burning fat instead of its preferred fuel of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates exist in two forms when you are eating normally - "free" or accessible carbs, and stored carbs called glycogen. When your body needs fuel, it will burn the free carbs first (like when you drink a glass of OJ full of carbs). When all the free carbs are gone, your body will burn the stored carbs (glycogen). In humans, glycogen is made and stored primarily in the cells of the liver and the muscles, and contains carbs and water stored together. Once the glycogen and stored water is gone, your body turns to fat for it's primary source of fuel, thus creating a mild, safe FAT BURN. In the first week of this program, you will usually lose quite a bit of weight. Most of that will be as a result of using up the glycogen, because every gram of stored carbs ALSO stores 3 grams of water. If the glycogen is used, the water is released. Result? Large weight loss. This is ALSO why, if you have a high carb meal at some point, your weight goes UP UP UP. Every extra gram of carbs will be stored with an extra 3 grams of water. This is why if you eat 1 lb of chocolate, your weight goes up by 4 lbs (at least! 1 lb from the extra carbs + 3 lbs from the water). On a side note, when your body burns fat as fuel, ketone bodies are produced and are released in your urine, sweat, and saliva. You may notice a metallic or sweet taste in your mouth and your urine may smell slightly different. This is a good sign of fat burn. You may use sugarless gum to help offset the taste in your mouth if you choose. The program produces a MILD ketogenic, or "fat-burning" state. For diets that invoke a SERIOUS ketosis, like the Keto or Atkins diet, your carbs are limited to less than 20g per day. On our most popular program, we are eating between 80 and 100g of carbs daily - JUST enough to keep your brain functioning well, and JUST enough to put your body into mild ketosis. You will KNOW that you are in ketosis IF you have been 100% ON PLAN for 3 days. This is because your body only stores enough glycogen to provide fuel for 3 days. Once the glycogen is GONE, after 3 days, you will be in mild ketosis. Bottom line? To be in ketosis, you need to be 100% on plan. If you aren't, you will still lose weight (because you'll be eating fewer calories every day than normal) - but it will be much more slowly, and you will be hungry. The more CARBS you eat over 100g, the less BODY FAT your body will metabolize as fuel. Happily, once you're in ketosis, your hunger dissipates, and you get the best of both worlds: faster weight loss AND reduced hunger. Note that if you eat a really high fat diet - choosing to eat nuts or cheese or something else (and yes, even if it's no carbs) - you WILL stay in ketosis, BUT your body will metabolize the FREE fat from the nuts because it is more easily accessed than your stored body fat. Again, this means slowed weight loss, or even weight gain. Note also that alcohol is metabolized as FAT, so if you have a glass of wine, you will still stay in ketosis, but your body will use the wine as fuel instead of your body fat. Result? SLOW weight loss. Ultimately, the choice is yours. How fast do you want to get to your target weight? How willing are you to stay on plan in order to support that goal of a healthy BMI?-

This is on point. It seems lately I’m eating off program more often than not. In the beginning I realized very quickly what my hungriest time of day was, I moved my lean and green and it worked great. But now I’m snacking on junk and it’s beginning to snowball out of control. I hadn’t put much thought into why or if there was a particular time of day/trigger. Thank you for this video I really needed to hear this.

Friday was EXTREMELY stressful,,,, very long story. Ate 🍔and 🍟. Got depressed that I ruined my whole week on plan. Went "down a deep rabbit hole" remainder of weekend. Scales ⬆️ 4.8 lbs 😱😳😢 ANGRY with myself for "Failing Yet Again" 🥺😭. Started "over" yesterday- wasn't a perfect 5&1 day - I was starving 😢😫 (ate 2 extra fuelings). As you stated, wake up going strong 💪👍.....

When I first did program I was doing great! Went 6 weeks 100% on. Liost 16lbs Then I had birthday dinner and have struggled to get momentum back. I gained back 14 lbs

That’s when you need to be hyper cuscused on listening to something with the mindset piece before your feet even hit the ground in the morning. Weekends are when our schedules are wacky, so if we don’t get that mindset piece in immediately, or toast!

I literally did this after the holidays...I had this thing for a keto toffee for like 2 months! granted, I didn't lose weight while I ate it BUT I finally got to the point where I stopped making it and could get back on track. Then it was the vacations and weekends out that knocked me off track but I haven't quit!

OK so what I think I hear you saying is, I don’t know that it’s hormone related, I think it’s consistency related. If you were doing the program 100% for four weeks and only losing 5 pounds, then I would say it’s potentially hormone related. But if you’re not being 100% on program for longer than a week or two, I’m not surprised you’re only pulling 5 pound months.

This is so helpful. Believe it or not, my problem is lunch. I'm a teacher and I do not want a bar or something sweet for lunch, but I do not have a long enough lunch to prepare any of the few optavia lunch feulings that I like, so I end up grabbing a cafeteria lunch and picking at the protein and veggies. I need to find a solution, but I'm not sure what do.

I think you have two really easy options. First, you can split your lean and green in half and bring half of it to school every day and eat it with a fueling or you could shift to a four and two and due to lean and greens, the second one at lunchtime, and the difference between the macros of the five and one and four and two is it you’re just getting an extra 15 g of protein which really is not going to slow down your progress

Oh my yes! This is exactly me. My pain point is either mid afternoon or before bed. Sometimes I just go to bed but 8:00 is a wee bit early on a regular basis. 😆 If it’s afternoon then my go to is salty/fatty/carb based. After that the foraging begins. 😔 I make it 4-5 days then I hit one of those moments. Ugh. This was certainly an interesting idea to consider. Thank you for the inspiration.

I lost 8 pounds the first week. Second week I messed up because the family went out to eat and the appetizers on the table for everyone on the table got me. I’m doing ok week 3 but I can relate to that one time of the day. For me it’s after dinner. I want to snack.
