In honour of Stuart Burrows' 75th birthday tomorrow, here is his moving rendition of "Deeper, and deeper still....Waft her, angels.." from Handel's Jephtha(available on the Decca label).
duettists , Britain's, well yes, but to be more precise, Wales' as that is where he was from. One of the most beautiful voices then, and few to equal it now.
A tous ceux qui disent s'ennuyer pendant les récitatifs, je conseille vivement d'écouter celui-ci. Il est magistralement interprété et accompagné. Quant à l'air qui suit, sublime composition de Haendel, il est à l'avenant ! Merci.
Just beacause Händel composed in barock period. , I think he would be pleased if the singers put both beauty and drama to his music. Burrows is a very good match for my taste. He sings!!
Could somebody maybe please make a playlist of what they would consider to be the FINEST, FINEST selections from Handel's many operas?? (Obviously, such a selection would include this wonderful piece!) If you do so, please send me a message, but it would really be great, as right now, I don't have the time to dig through the operas myself!
