Don’t ever give up on push ups fellas, 6 months ago I couldn’t do any push-ups, now my max is 64. You may not feel like your progressing but as long as you’re trying, you are definitely growing.

Appreciate this. I’ve been trying push-ups and have improved but still a long way to go. I believe the progression process is really helping. I’m very glad for your videos. Gives me encouragement instead of discouragement when I can’t do it. Also shows me the proper way to proceed. Thank you. 😁

The way it worked for me is I kept on doing knee pushups until they were too easy and then I moved on to full pushups and I was able to do 10 without being too tired. Now i can do 25 in one set and 20 in the second set, I'm making progress!!! plus I'm proud of myself because I couldn't do push-ups at all since I was too weak and skinny.

​@@mmmm69420 It took me a year, but I was in bad shape (overweight and complete lack of exercise for many years), I couldn't even do one push-up, now I can do about 15, it's possible that I was too careful, but I prefer slower progress and no injuries

Love this guy. Been following his workout plan on his website and I could do full push ups but the form was so sloppy that I started from the beginning. Now when I do full push ups, my form is so much better and I actually feel it too. Thank you brother Hampton.

If I may add, I have also found knee pushpus to full pushups difficult. What I have started doing, is doing full range of motion pushups, but placing your arms on different heights of surfaces. For instance, I started doing it against my bathroom counter, then I did them on the side of my bed frame; which was lower. Keep finding new lower surfaces until you get to the ground. ;)

Thank you for this! I’m an obese guy and I’m trying to very slowly start a fitness journey so I don’t get discouraged, and I’ve been building up on wall push ups and can do a fair amount. But as soon as I tried full pushups or knee push ups, because I’m top heavy it was just impossible once I lowered down. I wasn’t sure if a minimised ROM or altered push up would be beneficial or not - this really helps! Thank you! I hope I can keep improving!

Great timing with this advice 😁 I had my first Jiu Jitsu class today and warming up we did lots of (exhausting 😅) exercises and many push ups were included. So I'm going to get better at that so I can keep up more easily in class 😁 thanks!

Thank you so so much Hampton! Thanks to you, I am now able to do 1 full push-up with proper form! (My max is 3) I am on my way in losing weight and building strength and being able to do a push-up is such a big milestone for me as I am overweight. Thank you so much! I Tore a Rotator cuff punching the Heavy Bag. Now I'm rehabing. After 6 Months, i can now do 30 Degree incline pushups. Gettin' there.

When I was in BCT I saw people who couldn’t even do one knee push-up. By the time graduation came around they all passed their APFT at least at 50%. The secret to their success? The Army doesn’t let you fail. The training pushes you past the limits of your body and the limitations your mind convinces itself it can’t move past. And repetition helps. When you get dropped for every single small mistake, you either get smart or you get strong. In most cases, both. Have a beautiful day.

I'd also like to add that increasing your core muscle strength also helps with pushups, when i do pushups I lose my core strength too quick and collapse even though I got enough strength in my chest to do more. Planking helped me to increase my push ups

Great video Hampton! You can do the negative full pushup, then go back on your feet/knees with arms stretched out, to reset back to top position, this way you don't waste energy trying to get back up and use it all on the negative(down), which is where you'll see more gains.

I used push up bars at the calisthenics park. I started with the high push up bar, moved down a bit, increased reps. Then one day I decided to see if I can do a toes push up. I can now!!

I tried that same thing you said started from the beginning did knee pushups after a month of consistently doing them 3 days a week i felt like i had the muscle and joint strength but still wasnt able to do full pushups so i started doing the pushups but with half the range of motion and could do 3 reps. I only had to do pushups with half the range of motion for two weeks until my shoulder joint and muscles adapted to it.then i moved to the full pushups started doing 6 pushups (2 reps for 3 sets) and now i can do 10 (4 reps 1st set snd 3 2nd set and three third set) now im aiming to be able to do 3 sets of 10 reps each.

one tip that i always do when progressing from knee p-u to full p-u is doing the negative p-u. hold your body on the full push up motion and then slowly getting down until failure, its a great way to train the intense feel of back/bicep/tricep/chest when doing regular push up. slowly but surely you'll be stronger and could do one proper push up, trust me it was worth it!

I would like to chime in. Something that really helped me in getting the push-ups done: Decline push ups. Instead of doing push-ups on the floor, do it against a table, or a chair (have your feet on the floor, and then press yourself off of these objects/surfaces). As it gets easier, transition to an object with lower height. Add these onto what the Brother has already showed us. Let’s get stronger fam

You should always do different variations of pushups too. The same with pretty much any excercise.

That's how I built up the strength to get full motion. Went to the park and used various objects to elevate me, then worked my way down to the ground. You can use a barbell on a rack if you have one

You can also do your push-ups with your hands on something slightly elevated, you can tune the elevation /reduction in weight to get that "in-between" stage.

Doing Incline Push ups instead of kneeling push ups worked better for me you can also ajust the height you place your hands on for bigger or smaller resistance

If anyone sees this, my advice is to do as many full push-ups as you can and do as many knee push-ups as you can to failure. Rest a minute. And do it again until you reach 50. I did this and was sore for a week but came back and could do 5. Trust the process 💪

You know, I washappily ignoring push-ups, but I don't think I have an excuse anymore since going down as a full pushup and coming up with half push up looks fun, as does the papaya. Last year my new year resolution was to do a pull up. Yes. One full pull up. I failed -no plan. BUt this year I've been practicing with your modified pull up. Even just doing them occasionally has made a certain muscle so developed! I can see and feel the difference! Even if I can't do a pull-up in January, it will not be a failure.

Push up is easy, start by do a few(as much as you can possibly do) then do more when you get stronger. What matter the most is to get started. Just started doing pushups daily about a month ago, at first I can't even get past 20, now I can do 40. Get started and don't give up!

I have found "beginner workouts" to fall on two ends of the spectrum: they are either for elderly diabetics with no range of motion thus too simple for the rest of us, or they are a fitness guru's idea of beginner which is too much for the rest of us. Hampton is the "Goldilocks" of fitness instructors---just right!

By following this instructions. I'm proud that I can do a 5 full push ups even though I'm a fat guy (its quality over quantity for me but I keep training it to increase my reps) and the reason why I'm proud is that it's knuckle push ups. I can do 5 on a solid floor

Try tucking in your elbows a little more and see if that helps. Does it happen on easier variations?

I can't do any push up, but the 'trick' I'm gonna use is a 25 bucks push-up bar that I can easily move in a door frame at any height I wish, all the way from shoulder to 10cm above ground

Knees push ups is how I warm up joints building muscle also I do standard on my toes in sets 18 X 25-75 180days never stopped time 3-5 days a week exercising push ups are better than barbells and dumbbells just getting six to eight hours of sleep.

Geruf THAT is true accomplishment.🌱 But do look into finding out rhe source of the pain. It's possible that "101" work with the elastic bands could help - usually you'd know almost immediately if not. Try the one where you tie the band onto a sturdy pole or post at elbow level. Stand in front of it wirh your elbow glued to your side. You hold the band and take it laterally to the outside while keeping your forearm stuck to your bod. (Find the demo for this). First reps should be very light...if you must tug at it you need a lighter weight band.(II'd be safe and start with the yellow). Also - i found that some chairs (chair arms) work better than the floor. Maybe it's because I have to lock down my traps to keep to chair from sliding. And there's leeway in positioning your body's proximity to the chair and where on its arms you hold. 🌱
