You could have jacked up the rear axle, packed under the wheels and driven straight out of your stranded situation. I hope you have since bought yourself a winch. Happy 4x4ing.

Dam! I wish I thought of that, we did try packing in the front and rear but it wouldn’t grip to anything, so I wonder if we compressed the rear leafs a bit then dropped it down onto something if it would of worked!!

From personal experience I can say it has worked, all you need is a firm base for the jack to sit on, like a good sized rock or similar. A long handled shovel is very handy in these situations too. All the best mate 👍

Thanks mate! Do have rear lockers! We were with my cousin for most of it then as he left just happened to take a wrong turn and ended up on that track 😂 over confidence

Thanks mate! I haven’t noticed much damage, but I did smash the chassis with a bunch of rust converter just to halt any more rust until we get home, and I’ll have a shot at re painting it!

Yeah definitely need a winch as a minimum when solo on tougher tracks in VHC.

Yeh for sure! Winch on its way, looking into some better body armour as we speak! And I’ll look into the rock sliders, I just don’t want any bulky ones!

They put all them washouts in to close the track. Every washout originally had logs across them to stop cars getting through. They used to be way worse as well.

Really?? I thought they were just to help stop the rain from destroying the track, instead of making a big river in the middle the rain runs off the edge? But I’m also from WA we don’t really have any tracks like these 😂

@@CoreyKirwenI'm an ex parks worker. These are water bars. Put there to help stop erosion by directing the water off the side of the track. They're all over vic hills.

Everyone is saying get a Winch. I’ve been hunting/fishing vid high country for 20 yrs and never been stuck. First 4wd was a ford courier with open dif. Just drive to the conditions and don’t go some places in the wet. If you don’t want to be limited in your locations at any given time then 100% get a winch

I completely agree! In areas you are familiar and confident in a winch is less essential, but in hen your exploring places for the first time your bound to get hung up eventually😂

Serious/legitimate question for the more experienced out there, IF he had put more pressure back into his tyres while he was bottomed out, could he potentially have gained the slight bit of extra clearance needed to drive it out, at least onto the treads (not Max Trax)

The back is already so heavy that with only the two of us we couldn't effect it much! Best way of getting out would of been to: Jack up the rear diff, stuff some big rocks under it + recovery boards and given it some right foot!

I’m not 100% certain, but it’s the end of the Jeff spur track, and the beginning (or the end) of the crooked river track, so I would be the crooked river

Buy a 5 ton hand winch and rope for 150 bucks..it'll get u out of nearly everything

@@CoreyKirwen oh yeah, buy two because they are so cheap and the beauty of them is u can pull sideways and backwards..they are actually more versatile in a lot of ways than a mounted winch..it'll take care of nearly all situations but u only have a metre or so winch space before having to reset so long pulls up hill are probably not much fun but more often than not u only need to winch less than a metre..keep a length of chain with the rope so it's easier to vary the length..A high lift jack can also work as a winch
