I am 75. Never knew these used such a drive.

Still works great after all these years!

I thought is was pretty neat too! Thanks for watching!

Really neat how these work!

I just love how these simple mechanical systems work without needing a computer or circuit board!

I totally agree with that! Wife just got a 2024 car and the amount of electronic gadgetry is simply shocking. 😮

It's like a CVT in a car or a snowmobile.

It is pretty clever. It works off of air pressure from the supercharger impeller. It has a blow off valve to regulate the pressure and control the pulley position. All without computers!

We always think the new tech was just invented but they did it all before the jet age.

And they did it all on paper and used slide rulers.

exciting terrific you are showing the basis of a constantly variable pulley like used in driveline transmissions. Please show us the guts! How does this genuine Original, mechanical SUPERCHARGER work on the inside? What does the blower look like? Pres. Abraham Lincoln's favorite carriage was a Studebaker, 1 horse power. everybody loves a Studebaker!

Here is a link to a video I made that includes the supercharger rebuild so you can see what is inside: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8dkfYrKqM1U.html. Enjoy!

If I had to guess, you may be hearing the bypass valve open at idle/low load. Is that blow through?

Makes sense!

Its just a torque converter.

Actually it is a direct drive impeller using a variable ratio pulley. Neat technology for the 50's!

Yea , what's the age of bearings .

They were new when I rebuilt it 3 years and 500 miles ago.

It seems like you would have better performance if the pulley stayed small.

The later units deleted the variable ratio drive for a fixed pulley.

Was that factory???? Going from high boost to low boost????

Yes! 100% factory function, Pretty cool!

@@neilloughlin7080I think it’s high boost in the low end right? It would make sense to give it off the line torque then back off the boost as it gets into higher RPMs so it doesn’t blow the motor

How much boost does it build
