Like many different professions, there is little view into the aviation industry. I hope this video helps shine a light into the role of a flight instructor but also the struggles and successes of a student as they progress through the journey of becoming a pilot.
For me as the PIC on this flight, I did not have the needed 5 hours of PIC time in this make and model of aircraft to allow the student to log the flight time, but that doesn't prevent the student from flying. It just prevents him from logging the time. I have much to learn about the aircraft and look forward to the journey ahead.
I hadn't planned on instructing on this particular flight but felt like it was pointless for me to keep burning holes in the sky when I could learn while my "student" was learning.
Student background.... Andy is a very experienced pilot in the fixed wing world. Previous experiences include flying fighter jets and owning several aircraft over the course of his life. He is new to helicopters. We both have much to learn about flying this aircraft! :)
Since our first flight together we have briefed on positive exchange of flight controls, along with many other topics to help prepare us to be safer in the flights to follow.
