The name of the movement is: the Danube Unity Movement and exists for couple of months.
Being led by Akos Kovacs, a young Hungarian student and two more founding members from Austria, they hope to grow their movement, unite with other existing ones and restore what once was known as the Austro-Hungarian empire.

👑The Monarchist Channel is exploring the history of monarchies as well as status of monarchism in the World today.
This is a pan-monarchist channel, which means it does not focus on one country or one royal family or one monarchial tradition alone but on the world-wide monarchist cause.
On this channel we will refrain from taking sides in major dynastic disputes, because the hope is to unite monarchists rather than divide them. In France, for example, the monarchist cause has long been bitterly divided between the supporters of the “Legitimists”, “Orleanists” and “Bonapartists”. We don't do that here.
I also invite non-monarchists for a healthy and open-minded debate.
Enjoy the channel and I look forward to speaking to you in the comment section!

@@voxpopuli8132 Burgenland is German. (well, Austrian) Its people are mainly German. I'm Danube Swabian from Hungary, my family name comes from a place in Burgenland and it's in German. This shouldn't even come up as a question. That said i'm not entirely sure if a Constitutional Monarchy would benefit Hungarians. It really depends on whether Eduard Habsburg wants a more conservative independent power block or just a mini-EU. The Hungarians would certainly not like the latter. (though he looks like someone who would probably want the former) I think we wouldn't accept anything less than a Monarchy that resembles something more akin to a loose confederation, so something similar to V4 but more up to date. We really need to know more about him, maybe have him appear more in Hungarian media to share his views otherwise the idea is doomed from the beginning. A constitutional monarchy would mainly replace the Bundespresidents function in representing Austria and greeting foreign heads of state and such. Sure our Bundespresident has actual rights and powers, but they are limited, and i think it would not be that much different if they are upheld by a monarch. (The Bundespresident can discharge the government, but only in consensus with both chambers of the parliament if i remember correct. This is so that even his powers are checked by someone. And we could do the same with a monarch) What it could do is attracting even more tourists. (That's a big thing in Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Spain: that their "royals" attract tourists for some reason. So if the Habsburgs were monarchs again, they could boast to be the longest ruling royal family in europe. Just not in one go)

There is a very interesting argument for monarchy from the Anarco-Capitalists such as Hans Herman Hoppe. This combines two separate issues - Monarchism and re-creating a polity in the area of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. If they were not already members of NATO and the EU, it would make sense for the 6 or 7 small successor states to form a confederation in order to have a large common market so that their industries can benefit from economies of scale, and to pool their defense, so they could defend themselves against larger and more powerful neighbours, but given the existence of NATO and the EU, there is no need for this.

Yeah. That's why I don't support the revival of the Commonwealth despite being a Polish monarchist. Nations deserve to govern themselves, if they need others' help, alliances are the way to go. Although EU is a bad example seeing how it slowly becomes new USSR.
@shauntempley9757
@shauntempley9757 4 месяца назад
@@polishscribe674 That is the major problem with alliances; they only work so long as all parties see benefit, and the leaders at that moment are good. The risk is when alliances fail. Because all it takes is a party that sees no use in that alliance, and the leaders at that point in time are total dicks to each other., and both do not to happen to trigger that. This is a traditional return to a form of leadership that carries the type of hope for the future that is always present, but also represents how far that is yet to be realised, and the history that Monarch would display; the good the bad and the down right ugly. Shared by other nations that would bicker like anything over historical differences, and current ones. A Constitutional Monarchy is a very good one to look into. My advice would be to look at all the possible ways that could be implemented. Do you follow the British one? Then one of the things to look into, is the Capital of that entity must be the one it was when it existed, Palace and all, but is shared between each nation, just as the British one is shared. All the while remembering clearly that this entity has enemies, both without and within that will begin to plot even learning of this proposal, and the US is chief of those outside enemies. This is the most important warning to heed. But, that is up to you and your people if the benefits out way the costs, and needs to be equally considered by any other nation doing this and all communities too.

@@shauntempley9757 I think you've missed my point: I don't support multinational countries because I believe in national sovereignty. If an alliance or other organization is no longer beneficial, then it will just end. If tensions rise inside multinational country, the government will probably prioritize maintaining it's influence, in worst cases leading to tragedies like ethnic "wars" in 1990s Balkans. I mean, if the union is initiated by the people, then fine, I won't force them not to. But if it's forced, then, well, I already mentioned how Yugoslavia ended.
@shauntempley9757
@shauntempley9757 4 месяца назад
@@polishscribe674 A Constitutional Monarchy if following the British one, gives you a Monarch that is shared by all nations that recognise it as Head Of State. Each nation is separate in the list of titles, which changes depending on which nation that Monarch is visiting. For example, when the Queen was in the UK, that throne was mentioned first. When she was in NZ, our throne was mentioned first. On top of that, you get nations that are bound to defend your nation if it comes under invasion, or the threat of it, and also binds you to defend any other nation too. I remember when the US threatened invasion on NZ after the ANZUS refusal. The UK and the other Realms had to tell the US they would invade the US if they did. Even in the British Commonwealth, each Realm utilises the Monarch differently to each other, based on their national needs. You will still get nations that bicker with each other; NZ and Australia do this on an ongoing basis due to internal matters that set us as opposites, but would rain hell on anyone that invaded us. Yet we share a Head Of State in the Monarchy and do it totally differently. NZ has a Treaty between the Monarchy and its indigenous peoples. Australia is infamous for the One Australia Policy, which is white only. A Realm has much more rights than a nation. A Realm has the right to exist, and to state its opinion to any other. A state does not.

This is a momentous movement but I already fear for its success. The Austro-Hungarian Empire before its end was facing deep political and cultural instability with the Hungarians and Serbians being a big cause for its destruction. If this movement takes off, it will have to consider what exactly it wants. If it is just a unification between Austria and Hungary under Karl von Habsburg, that in itself will be very difficult to achieve. Likewise, we must ask what other countries or lands will be incorporated into the empire and how will the people of these countries, namely the Slavs, react to it? I don't know if reforming the Austro-Hungarian Empire is a feasible goal due to the state of monarchism in Europe and how Republicans view it. If the Austro-Hungarian Empire were to rise, would other Republics, Prime Ministers, and presidents suddenly fear for their own positions or would they view this as a good thing? How would the Austro-Hungarian Empire react to other Republics and would it have any goals to reclaim old territories once under the empire? I don't know and what I personally think is that it would be smarter if they individually restored Austria and Hungary to the monarchy and then made plans to unify into the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As monarchists, we need to be careful while navigating the political waters of restoring Kaisers and kings to their old thrones and dismantle the Republics that were there before them. I would love to see the Austro-Hungarian Empire restored, however we must understand that there are people out there who have been so indoctrinated by Republicanism that they view all kingdoms as abominable and evil. If we are to succeed, we most show these people they are wrong and likewise, be prepared to fight for our own beliefs and for our kings. God be with Hungary and Austria and may the Emperor be restored to his throne
@tomorrowneverdies567
@tomorrowneverdies567 4 месяца назад
I am greek, and I do not believe that monarchy is abominable or evil. However, I do not see what kind of problems would replacing current systems with monarchy solve. Especially the more important problems. Apart from this, the 19th and 20th century shows us that "close" political unions of countries with populations with different identities, a rather psychological thing, are not as stable as "nation-states", and one ethnic group (or religious, or other kind of group) tends to believe that they are somehow being treated unjustly by the other(s) ethnic/other groups. This phenomenon is more apparent in my personal understanding when there is also no religiosity which can hold such entities (psychologies, states, different ethnic groups, etc.) together, like christianity did in the past. These are the reasons why I personally believe that monarchy for the current state of the world is not a good idea. Perhaps with and under a new religion though. I see you are from Germany. Are people in Germany satisfied with politics? Any explanation(s) as to why they vote the way they do?

@tomorrowneverdies567

@@Vampirecronicler Hi. I am afraid that you are mistaken if you believe that people in 2024, not only in countries like those, but all over the world, would agree, and be satisfied enough, for more than a time frame of ~20 years, to be governed in such a system. I also believe that the term "nationalism" is very inaccurate and insufficient, to describe why the above would be the case. As I wrote above, many people today have what is called "national identities". This is to my limited understanding a rather psychological thing. They believe that they "belong" to an ethnic group (whatever the word "belong" means), and their minds tend to "view" the happenings of reality under that prism. Under such a way of thinking and feeling, close super-national political entities are considered (by me personally and many others) unstable. If one wanted to form a super-national political union today, I therefore suggest that they should first make people acquire a (new) uniform identity. To name an example, until today, many people in the US identify as "Americans", even though their ethnic backgrounds can be different, namely german, english, scottish, irish, french, italian, swedish, dutch, greek, jish, african american, mexican, puerto rican, chinese, japanese, indian, and so on. Another example is modern England, which was ultimately formed in the 10th c. AD by the well known different peoples of northern Europe. A third example is modern Italy. The question is, why would you/one like to replace the current political systems with monarchy? What kind of improvements are you aiming with that?

And if there is anything that history teached me, is that a long lasting nation that isn't invaded and annexed by another tends to have this 'political pendulum' where people go to one side of the political spectrum to the other when the side that they are is failing to do things properly. And to be honest, I prefer a peaceful or at lesst not bloody transition from democracy>monarchy/monarchy>democracy that fell into fascism or communism.

Ad monarchy) Monarchy is bread term encompassing everything from despotism (archaic form from earliest civilizations) over absolutism and feudalism to modern constitutional monarchies that can also be described as crowned republics. In context of Europe, it would most likely be the last one where king has minimal to none executive power and the government is headed by PM and answer to parliament. As well there often are some unwritten rules, like the one who can assemble majority in parliament (often coalition) will became PM, that is often either head of the strongest party in coalition or somebody who they agree upon. Ad benefits) One of the benefits is, at least perceived, greater stability and lesser chance of king interfering with day to day politics. For example previous president of Czechia was infamous for stretching the system to it's limits and even bit beyond. King would most likely not to do so or would be quickly constrained by some law or perhaps steps would be taken to dethrone him. Problem with president, directly elected in parliamentary system, can be that he can claim, as did previous president of Czechia, that he got over 50 % of votes and thus people support that. Ad claims) I do not know about any monarchy (at leas in Europe) that would today lay claim on territory that was lost during 20th century nor earlier. So the war would be highly unlikely, especially as all those countries are about the same size and thus occupation would be extremely costly. Not to mention that it would require some imperial project.
@christurner6330
@christurner6330 4 месяца назад
@@MrToradragon Then why not do what many European democracies do, where they have a figurehead monarch-like president, who is the head of state, chief of the armed forces, and not much beyond that, whilst you have a prime minister acting as the one representing the population. To me personally it makes no sense, since having a president as such is better than a hereditary monarch, since the pool of who can fill that role is much wider. Oh and why exactly should the population fund the lavish lifestyle of these royal families? And why should I a Hungarian be ruled by a foreign monarch?

Then we all look to the US, and think ours is better. It is not just a national ideal. It is a cultural and historical link to our respective pasts. Those links are important. It is just that our links are represented by Monarchy, and each also has a further connection in how indigenous peoples are treated in each of those three. NZ at this very moment is a case in how things can go wonky even for us. Those risks never go away, no matter whom is in charge.

personally I don’t see a restored Austria-Hungary anytime in the future this is due primarily to the different nationalistic interest of the ethnic groups. Austrians in my view are technically Germans and as such Austria would become a state in a renewed German Empire much like Prussia or Bavaria. As for Hungary, it would be its own kingdom whereas the Bohemians (modern Czechia and Slovakia reunited) would also be its own kingdom, both would be ruled by Hapsburgs of course as I think the dynasty has enough members to establish separate monarchies in all three polities or barring that maybe they would have a single monarch in a personal union but remain as separate countries. And as the Slavic peoples like the Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes and Serbs, their last monarch was the King of Yugoslavia and the House of Karađorđević is still very active last time I checked.
@MrToradragon
@MrToradragon 4 месяца назад
I think there is some treaty preventing Austria from unification with Germany and that most likely still is in effect. While Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia, it was not part of Czech Lands, the construction that would unite those countries would be problematic and would cause other problems, most likely.Not to mention it would be easier to justify restoration of monarchy only in original Lands of Bohemian Crown. Not to mention that there are other possibilities like union of Czech lands with Poland (originally proposed as "Zapadoslavia" in interwar period) so some descendants of Polish dynasty could came into play. Side note, it is not entirely clear, given the events of 1918, whether Hapsburgs still have claim on throne in Kingdom of Bohemia, about decade ago article was published on this subject in one of Czech newspapers. Some experts believe that the same act that had deposed Karel II also had removed whole House of Hapsburg from the throne, other believe that it had deposed only Karel II. So there is possibility that Kingdom of Bohemia would need to find some other House when the monarchy would be restored. If I am not mistaken, i have read that long ago, that there were (serious) consideration in 1918 to put either member of Gottorp-Romanov or Windsor dynasty on the throne. While I am sure about the proposal for Gottorp-Romanov, I am not sure about the Windsors (but it would make kind of a sense). Other option, perhaps best one today, would be to put member of one of the Czech noble families on the throne.

I can understand their way of not contacting the Habsburg family before they gain some traction. If they did, people would constantly misinterprete the whole movement as "just some way the Habsburgs tried to get their stuff back or get into power". Evenif that's not true, it's the picture people would have of it, and it be it's immediate nail in the coffing. It makes a difference for many people if one family tries to regain power or at least be the center of a constitutional monarchy, or if "the people" want them to do or be that. It's about legitimation.

The problem is that there is no distinction in the English language between Hungary empire in past and Hungary as a country today. In Slovak and other languages, the Hungarian empire was not called Hungary, even not in the name of Austria-Hungary empire. It has another different name (Uhorsko). History of Uhorsko (as historians and scientists know): cca 1000 - 1800 --- Joint state of Slovaks and Hungarians. But while people living in today's Slovakia were 100% Slovaks, people living in today's Hungary were only 2% Hungarians and 98% Slovaks. Over the course of 800 years, many Slovaks began to speak Hungarian, because the ruling class was made up of Hungarians. cca 1800 - 1910 --- In Hungary, even in 1880, only small percentage of population spoke Hungarian language. In the years 1880-1910, the increase of the Hungarian population was 3.5 million and it was because the original inhabitants were driven out by force to speak Hungarian !!! The result of this was that majority of people living in today's Hungary speak Hungarian. There was a great persecution, much worse than, for example, during the time of Adolf Hitler from the point of view of Germany 50 years later. after World War I: --- Ending the existence of so-called "Hungary empire", which consisted of many nations. after 2000: --- All scientific genetic studies prove that only 2 percent of today's Hungarians are real Hungarians. 98 percent of today's Hungarians are originally Slavs who lived here before the arrival of Hungarians and later started to speak Hungarian. today's problem: --- In Europe, everyone who is educated knows at least something about the history of the Slavs. They lived here a long time before nomadic and wild Hungarians invaded Europe. But unfortunately, in today's Hungary, all state institutions, such as museums, schools, historians, are forbidden to speak and inform about the Slavs. And it is not a coincidence, because they realize that their Hungarian nationalism is only based on some fantasies and ideas that are not authentic. For example, if you are in a museum in Budapest, you will find exhibits about all the early medieval peoples of Europe, but there is no mention of the Slavs. We already know that today's Hungarians are descendants of Slavs, who speak Hungarian.

As the only possibility for unification, I see that the current security-economic structure in Europe would fall apart and the countries of the former Austria-Hungary would be forced to join a new alliance due to the security situation. Then the form of a constitutional monarchy led by the Habsburgs would make sense. But that would require the Hungarian government to change its policy towards its neighbors and Austria to change its sense of superiority, and that is probably impossible.

This method helps in obtaining a representative sample, which is crucial for drawing generalizable conclusions from the survey data. I appreciate your concern about the impact and perception of survey results. Polls don't change systems, never have and never will. Otherwise, you would never have political campaigns. They provide insights into how citizens think about various topics, which is the primary goal of our survey. Further research, including more surveys, focus groups, and testing, can give us deeper insights. And even then, they are nothing more than statistical photographs of a country, state, region, city, ... Consider a scenario where you want to organize your building to change plants or paintings. You would need to understand your neighbors' needs, approach them effectively, find a consensus, and only then make changes. Genuine questions and problems I have with this: 1) Why would someone even want this? (Other than that imperial nostalgic Autrians and Hungarians which I doubt there are many, given the fact old Austria-Hungary was a political nightmare) 2) Given there want to have the member countries be part of a union with their own different political landscape and government why even add the monarchy paint job? Given the fact that the majority of the countries that 'would' be part of the revived empire are already inside part of a bigger union the EU. Why bother with this? 3) Even if it is somehow this was allowed by the EU it is only going to be Austria and Hungry in a union of sorts and given the services of the EU that would be nearly worthless. (Theritorys outside of that would be a pipe dream at best and impossible at worst. I doubt that serbians, cheks, slovaks and anyone else would be willing to throw away their national sovereignty to go back to the same system that oppressed them, even if it claims to no longer want that.) 4) Also look at the other example of Royal Familys the in the U.K. is basically a leach that sucks tax money that could be directed to a lot of better things.

IF this video had been made before November 2021 and i saw it before then i would have been strongly supportive, because before then i was a zealous monarchist a loyal supporter of the British house of Windsor, a history buff and a subject of the British crown, albeit as a colonial. But my 40 year support vanished in a week or so in that month when i saw that the late Queen was determined to simply survive and would not do anything to offend her masters and he son King Charles III is in fact as a globalist who has spoken for the WEF on their platform and under their banner, a traitor a monarch? it all depend on his or her moral character, as it does for the participants of ALL systems. IOW the system will be played by bad actors and systems DO NOT make people good i do suspect that young people are hankering for a past that never was, and are possessed of the notion that the grass is greener the other side of the fence (ie elsewhere) Do you know this English proverb? of course i am 65, old tired and cynical and likely to become completely apolitical sooner or later

THATS NOT THE REAL FLAG OF AUSTRIA HUNGARY It was a dual monarchy, which isn’t a type of state actor many people are familiar with today. the flag most people associate with it (including in this video) is the civil ensign that someone falsely claimed to be the “national” flag on wikipedia in 2003 which has since started a whole edit war within the article. If you want to use the correct flag just stick with the old yellow and black of Austria. After all, it WAS the most commonly used when the empire still existed and is the de facto true flag of the empire if there ever was just one.

Thanks for sharing. To be honest I am also more in favour of having an emperor in Austria again Because in my opinion there would be not much different then having a mostly politically powerless President, that you do not hear much from and some people dont even know his name.

I'd agree a few years ago, we had Miloš in Czechia but now our president is far better

This sounds like a hair brained idea if there ever was one ,the idea of bringing back the former Austro-Hungarian empire is unlikely to happen firstly the austro-hungarian empire collapsed just over a hundred years ago so the nations that were once part of that empire have gone in completely different directions and the areas that were once part of that bygone empire have changed many times over in their borders natuonal make up you name it the whole region is completely different from the day's of the last Hapsburg ruler emperor Karl.These countries are now members of NATO and the EU with one acception that being Bosnia -Herzegovina. The young Hungarian student who came up with this idea of bring back the former Austro-Hungarian empire needs complete his studies at University and come and see everybody when he is a lot older and hopefully with a lot more maturity.
