We are going show you some very important differences between to OTE Output Energize instruction and the OTL/OTU latch unlatch instructions that happen when power is cycled to the PLC.
An OTE output energize will be off on power up where as the OTL/OTU will remain in it’s last state on power up.

I've been programming over 15 years and I never knew this! It never really came up for me before so I never thought about it. There really is always more to learn no matter how long you've done this.

Im building an elevator system in my home and it uses multiple inputs and outputs for limit switches, door sensors and obstacle detection

Always something to learn. I'm finishing up a project and was concerned about my latched outputs when my emulator powered the dang things on at startup. I did use the S:FS to unlatch before watching this video, but now I know the how, and the why. Thanks Tim!

@@TimWilborne Hi Tim, when i add S,FS in the program the plc doesn't recognize it do i have to add it as a new tag ?
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne Год назад
@@nassimlamrous3721 It is S:FS, it is a colon in between, not a comma.

Why not use NOHC or NCHO to eliminate your the pre and post scan variables?

Hi Matthew, I'm aware of these electrical terms but not instructions, can you elaborate?

Ok Tim, I tried the example with the S:FS instruction on my (U) rung but have multiple inputs via branching. When I added the S:FS branch it did not show First scan when hovering the mouse pointer but I got an error Invalid Direct File Offset?? Can this be used on multiple branches on a (U) rung??

You are trying to type S:FS in a RsLogix 500 program. It does not exist, it is S:1/15

Always use an OTE w/a seal in so the equipment conditions define if it should be On/Off incl loss of power. First Scan? Oh please, I see OTL/OTU way overused it's essentially amateur programming.
@davidcunningham8318
@davidcunningham8318 9 месяцев назад
An OTL is ok for a sequencer as a memory bit that a Step or Event has occurred, thas only time I use it.
@TimWilborne
@TimWilborne 9 месяцев назад
There are plenty of practical uses for the OTL/OTU. As I said in this video the other week, just because you don't like an instruction doesn't mean you shouldn't understand it. ru-vid.comUeI8s4oc758
