Studio 54 New York virtual walk-around

Unfortunately, I have never been in Studio 54.
But I always was very interested in the history as well as the legends of this particular disco. So I decided to visualize it on my computer.
For research I watched tv-documentaries and bought the amazing book „Studio 54“ by Ian Schragen to have photos and a floorplan of the building.
The animation shows the disco after the renovation in 1978 with the raised DJ booth.
At some point I had to rely on my own creativity because there was no reference photos and footage of the building.
I think I did a good job. I hope you like it.

The Logistics are pretty close...Good job! I performed on the Catwalk there. My dressing room was in the dungeon. Also, the Man in the Moon Light Fixture speckled dots into his nose when the music started really pumping. When you got to the 2nd level with the cylinder couches, then people would go up to the next level and hang in the theatre seats. It will always be my life's paaaar-tee!

It must have been a nightmare getting a drink with only one modest size bar, or maybe there were many bar staff. I was in New York on holiday from the UK and struck a conversation with a woman in her sixties who told me of her clubbing days at 54 could tell even tho she was in her 60s now she still had that vibe I was so engrossed in our conversation was one of the most interesting 2 hours I've ever spent in great company. Stella said to me if I'm ever in New York again, we should meet up. This was five years ago, well I intend to visit New York this year, and I hope I do meet Stella again.

Brian - There was a satellite bar between the two staircases leading to the upstairs lounge. There was also another bar in that lounge and another in the Rubber Room at the club's highest balcony level. For private parties on the back half of the dance floor, there was a bar as well.- David

You can never imitate originality but I think if you got either wealthy superclub owner (ie Pacha family) or some rich enthusiast who loved that Studio 54 vibe and the music, this could be relaunched to a certain degree. I mean there are enough people around the world who love the music and would love to experience the whole vibe and would def go there. Just need someone rich enough with the imagination and connections to pull it off .The world is def waiting and needing in the present day a Disco superclub laike 54, it would be so ram packed!

It seems they tried several times, and bankrupt was the outcome every one of them..... Half hearted efforts?.. Bad management?.... Impossibility with real accounting instead of outragous amounts of black cash?..... Many people willing to go.. But not to pay outrageously updated prices?? What was the REAL business model originally?... Hefty prices on access and drinks but low salaries?... Someone tell me please..

@@tuxitalk1World the original Ritz was located at what is now called Webster Hall. I was just there recently and they still have a Ritz sign in the building which was cool to see. The location on 54th was in the 90s. If my memory serves me right, The Ritz (54) closed some time around 93 (if anyone knows more on this please do tell) and then it turned into "Clubland"- a super short-lived theme club with performers as servers. I have a vague memory of seeing a logo on cups that looked inspired by the Candyland game. It's kind of a blur tho.. the 90s that is ; )

Amazing work! And ... much as I remember it. If you stood in front of the *huge* bass "bins" at the sides of the dance floor, when the woofers "snapped" back to their resting positions before the next push "out" for the bass, they literally sucked the air out of your lungs. Not completely of course, but enough that you felt the effects; I had to move away from them, the bass being that powerful. hahahaha! What isn't obvious, but is there in your CGI work, is the "moving" catwalk - usually stationary in front of the animated-neon-"fan" at the back of the stage, that could move over the dance floor. The light "trees" and the JBL bullet tweeters were all flown in and out manually. The poor guy with his dual ear "muffs" and microphone-production headset was a very busy guy at the rigging/ropes. I *loved* watching the DJ and lighting tech up in the overhead "pod" suspended (pole supported) to your left as you come into the club. Again, thank you very much for this; I admire your work "abrmedia". You're talented!
@cddjny
@cddjny 3 года назад
The moving cat walk was called the Bridge, and you could only enter it when the bridge was in a certain position than the two side gates would open up and transport you front to back back to front across the dance floor until it returns to that spot and the side gates open again. Many entertainers perform there, including Diana Ross and many others

That is amazing, thank you. I never got there when it was the disco, only for shows with Round-a-bout Theater Company. This gives a good idea and feel about how it was as a dance club. I am not sure, though, how did they incorporate the stage area? Could people dance on the stage, or was that only for shows and stuff?

According to accounts, the original idea was to put the dancers onstage. So, yes it was like that by design
