i honestly put my home studio together watching these videos... even tho not everything is perfect, i still appreciate and thank you guys for these studio rescue videos
Frisson Not going to lie, my studio was this exact color before and it was so difficult for me to stay inspired. The room was so grey and dull that my brain was having trouble to get creative. It was just a very depressing atmosphere to be in, as silly as that might sound lol, so one day I got sick of it and painted it an actual color and immediately felt more creative and less like I was locked in a prison cell. 😂 Best decision of my studio life. Haha
It's 3:30 am, and I just painted wall 3 of 4 (minus the second coat) of my (now torn apart) office that I'm changing into a music studio. The walls were white, but now will be (insert any totally awesome color here to suit your imagination!), and it's WAY radical totally tubular far-out gnarly funky fresh brah!
he removed all wall panels before Francis came to his house. And Changing the paint is a good idea , it will look good. Trust me the ears matters the most.
+Ayon Manna No man. Francis told him to remove it. So he can put the "good shit" o nthe wall. Product placement. Francis is full of shit. He sold his soul to the franchisement sponsor.
I just have to play mr cynical beyond his years here for a second...I can't help myself...but I always get a kick out of the awkward "greeting and setup on camera" acting in videos like this...."hey...we just....met......you and your....crew haven't already been here for an hour setting...up the segment and discussing how we should do..." I love it
Well they've already know eachother through email conversations etc So it will never be as organic as you may want or expect it to be on screen. Anyhow what about majority RU-vid video's even gold diggers vids are logically all fake, the only time it's real is when something goes wrong etc someone gets hurt which hardly gets uploaded as it hurts the prank vid hussle I guess, we all know what majority public is like with random confrontation, unless you're doing pranks in a church setting things will always go wrong so for all who calls bs on these simple help videos, I call the highest bs on most videos on RU-vid you actually still think is organic.. These videos are as organic as you can ever get and what we can or must get from them is that some of us may move to another house with smaller space so it gives us help on what table and equipment we can fit when move etc what to pack away and what to keep out/maybe sell if not needed anymore
@TheAdiel2010 Francis is wearing the limited edition M1 t-shirt, which was offered exclusively to readers of TapeOp magazine in 2010. RØDE will soon be launching an online store to allow direct purchase of our shirts, and we do have a small handful of these left that will also be available.
That room is entirely too small. He's going to have all kinds of low frequency issues. It also looks like it's a square, which is the worst for acoustics. He needs a bigger room. As far as the treatment they are using, foam doesn't do anything for low frequency problems. So sticking foam in the corners is kind of silly.
+motorheadbanger90 Reddit's founder Aaron Swartz, one of the smartest guys out there, said that working in an ugly environment makes for a productive environment. I agree!
Wow !! these videos are the best thing that exist on youtube about mounting home studios and sound treatment! because the way to explain it is very accessible to all! It is spectacular! Francis, I'm from Portugal and could even pay you to come here to rescue my own homestudio! Amazing! Thank you very very much !!!
Wow you should see my shamble of a home studio. We would make the best episode ever! And i could so appreciate your upgrades and help and advice because i am stone broke!!!!
OMG what an amazing job you guys did I would love for you guys to rescue my studio it’s barely treading water and in desperate need of help. Please help me and my studio. Keep up the great work and the amazing videos and even better products! Truly inspiring video faith in humanity has been restored.
The panels behind the desk are useful in order to catch any excess sound leaving backwards from the speakers. They are also placed there in order to diminish extra sound that moves around in the room (just like the panels on the other walls). The panels in the corners are called bass traps and they are put there in order to diminish the energy of bass frequencies which tend to travel along walls and get caught up in corners. Hope this helps!
Thanks Francis for the video! Barring the room aesthetics, there is some really useful information here. Wish I could get my room rescued. Good luck Steve!
You wouldnt be able to tell the difference. Its mainly for whoever is sitting making the music. So they get a balanced idea of the sound they are making. Thats why they did the whole triangle and angle of reflection part. So when he's sitting there he gets the optimal playback for that space.
This whole series seems fake. The people their helping just seem like they are looking at a ghost the whole time. Plus these people all get free acoustic treatment and a brand new NT2A and when it's given to them, they all look like they don't know what to do with it or them selves. I would freak out so much if they were at my house, the camera crew wouldn't know what to do.
All this people were participating in some kind of contest ( by sending their mixes and songs) to get a new microphone and acoustics for free, I think that’s the reason they do not look surprise at all, they already know they won that! The company just saw the opportunity to sell even more product by making a “rescue show”. It wasn’t fake dude.
A loudspeaker doesn't just loudspeak to the front, there's also some sound coming out of the back of it. It's hitting the wall and coming right at you, and because the distance is very short, the reflection is nearly in time with the dry signal. So you hear that reflection as a part of your music and you can't do the right decisions when mixing, because you're not hearing what your music actually sounds like.
If you go to musician's friend .com , and type in home studio desk, there are a bunch of options to choose from, I think the one in the video is also included.
I really enjoy your show, I’ve learned a lot and I actually saved my studio using your techniques. I cannot believe that you didn’t take a little extra time and help him, or even just have him, paint the room. It would’ve made a huge difference in the aesthetic, but hey that’s just me. What I mean is, to do it right now he has to undo all the great work that you did, instead of just painting it for an hour, going out for a pizza to let it dry, and coming back to finish the show. Just a thought maybe for future episodes. Thanks again, Steve PS, my father was a mathematician and would never let us say heighTH...It’s ‘height’ 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Javier Martinez It would make a large difference but for it to be called studio rescue i feel like they should do more, it should be called spacer saver an foam pads with a mic an not "studio rescue".
Hey Rode, damn, your NT1 is *super* sensitive. I overheard my neighbors talking smack about dogs pooping in their yard through my walls. I heard it through my headphones direct monitoring but not when I took the headphones off. So weird. My AT2005 never picked up my neighbors before lol!
He didn’t test the clients or diffuse sound in the back. Needs paint too. That studio wasn’t rescued. That was just a long commercial from a microphone.
No, it's not called an apex. It's called a vertex. And your head and ears are not at that point. The Stereo Vertex Point (the focused point where the speakers are aimed behind your head) should be 14" min. to 16" max. behind your Listening Position (ear line).
Thanks Francis. He shoulda been made to clean up those walls before you came in! As punishment! I learned a few things here about Apexes and Sound reflection and small Statue of Liberty souvenirs! PS: What's the Grammy for? Musically that 'tis.....
Why do they have to pretend there wasn't a camera in the room to begin with? 'Oh, hey man! I was just playing guitar and being dissatisfied with my studio, so glad you turned up on my property unannounced!'
Love this entire series! Wish Francis could rescue MY studio before I redo it. I could sure use his expertise! The new Rode mic is very cool. I own an NT-1. Where can I find the room treatment material that Francis is using, along with the Mic isolator?
you can listen to it, in the begining with the reflections with the mic , very "wet" For a room , and than at the end with the wall foam did it sound way better lol
Hello! This is a helpful video for HomeStudio design! One question: Can you please give me the address where I can buy these room foam panels? Thank you very much. Best regards
haha thats what i thought too :D but i find some of his tricks like the mirror moving along the wall, a pretty good idea ;) so there are still some little tricks in these episodes^^
I wish I had a guest house just lying around that I can turn into a studio. I'm dying to set up a home setup but I might end up having to wait on my bass player to buy himself a house before we can set up a home studio.
I thought you were exactly not supposed to put the desk dead center in the middle of the room? nodes, standing waves, and other mysterious phenomena focusing in the center.
