It's the missed opportunities, for example a great name in the industry like Tam lu participated in making this episode and instead of giving him important scenes or fights to animate they made him animate a scene of a drop of water for seconds !! This is incredible stupidity, Imai does not deserve to be a director after this episode, he did not animate even a single scene

Nah I think the criticism is really necessary, that was the chapter everyone was waiting for and it had 2 of the best panels in the manga. They really destroyed their impact with some weird direction choices. People who say it was the greatest episode or whatever are the ones who need to stop because they are just lowering the bar for the anime industry even more and cheering for mediocre stuff.

The problem I have with that cut is the lack of background animation or rather, that you can barely see the background move, due to the compositing. On the first watch I didn't really realize how fast and far Toji was actually moving.

The way they animated it doesn't really make sense cuz red is literally TOUCHING the inverted spear yet it still is working? Inverted spear should auto negate any CT so wtf?! Edit: nah like, it doesn't turn off the red. The red is still in existence and continues to exert a force on Toji. Its not being deactivated on contact like neutral infinity

The way they did Purple was beautiful. And that added content for Geto's fight was amazing. They elevated the manga for majority of the episode

I loved the gold. As you say it gave it a heavenly feel. But i did prefer the angle in the manga. It doesnt help that the angle makes it look like a dancing pose lol

Usually minor anime accounts like him or MankoMan tend to look at what major sakuga accounts on Twitter say like they are religious cultist. If that bozo Kvin or others like him say that something look bad, they'll follow his way of thinking (especially regarding Mappa, since is not unknown that Kvin is a big Mappa hater), and on the contrary if they say that something is good, well you know. Also i can't get the fact that, especially Pretentious, whenever he says that something looks weak he never elaborates, completely invalidating his take since he can't explain it. Mostly because most of the time there wasn't anything weak or because he was just his impression(about the later, it's a thing that SHOULDN'T happen if you aim to be a reviewer)

Very interesting, the second part of your comment, that is. If I look at this video, I mentioned how the second half of q Kawa's bit looked weak, and I explained that it's because the dragon's movement is lingered on for too long and looks unintentionally comical, and because the background movement wasn't particularly interesting. I mentioned that the shot where geto jumps lacks execution, and I elaborated on why (because the warp of the BG was easily recognizable and one wall being warped while the other wasn't looked off putting) I also mentioned how it could be fixed. How else should I go about elaborating on my critiques?

His compositing skills in reality are at the same (surprisingly good despite being a new gen Dop, that are much weaker than the old ones). The difference is just that he doesn't use light duff filter anymore.

Some time ago I asked to Dop Waki on Twitter and he told me that sadly photography schools in Japan know teach the usage of that filter as a fundamental to use (infact around 50% of modern Animes are full of it), making a lot of a look like they are in 480p. He really hates it, but he knows how to use it in the right way. Even to look thing looks ugly because it's needed. For example, remember that pv for that Gundam mobile game in wichh he served as Dop and everyone praised him for making the colors look like hand palm like in the past? But... Do you also rent thdd the PV looked like it was extremely dusty and in a lot resolution? Well, that was "thanks" to light diffusion filter, that if not used on huge sources of light (basically for what it was created for more than 50 years ago) will crea that effect on screen. In the case of that pv it was intentional, because his intent was making it look like it was an animated commercial of the 70s, but seen in a TV from the 70s Sorry for the long ass thread

@@userK894 there will not be any improvement for the compositing in Anime in the following years, because even veterans are starting to heavily using light diffusion filter in order to make their work similar to the new Dops. Or the are cases where a young Dop perfectly emulates a style of a veteran, but completely covers it with a lot of light diffusion filter (like Shota Kodera, the Dop of Gundam : Witch from Mercury)

Oh there are a lot of examples of bad smears, you need to look harder lmao, so many shows try to hide their lack of movement by using a smear to bridge very different key frames. Also the amount of liberty taken by the animator also comes into play, Kosuke Kato's scene from the last episode was a great example of incredibly aggressive smears which looked great. Also the presence of smears automatically indicates a presence of movement, which in and of itself is a good thing

The entire scene had a strong presence of golden lighting that made the entire scene feel heavenly, and the entire point of both that quote and the Buddhism following as a whole is the lack of attachment from existance, which is literally what Gojo is experiencing. This is not a "hype" or "crazy" scene, Gojo is feeling completely dettached from what's happening. He feels no danger, no excitement, he's simply admiring. It's weird how you people will complain about "poor direction" but talk as if you genuinely do not understand at all the thing you're complaining about.

There was a shitty anime from the 2000s called Arjuna. And even that handled the characters awakening with a lot more nuance. And then, I wished they had slowed down and lingered a bit. Because clearly there was supposed to be something different for Gojo. Maybe it's me being spoilt because of series like FMA, Mob Psycho 100, and ATLA that handled enlightenment in their own unique way and made it feel like the event of a lifetime...

Brother Gojo vs Toji R1 was def one of the best fights in the series. And Geto vs Toji had more sakuga becoz it was an actual fight. Gojo vs Toji R2 didn't wasn't even a "fight" (even in the manga). Now Red did lack actual impact (still gr8 buildup) but if you think Purple was not good for what was the moment then you are never going to be satisfied with anime.
