I walk you through making a laminated slingshot, then take it hunting. I bag 2 snowshoe hares with a headshot. We also go over calculating impact energy.
Amazing work. I did a lot of catapult stuff as a kid 45 years ago and you’ve rekindled my interest. I have an old American Diablo style wrist braced one from 1979 a girlfriend got me on holiday there,( I’m in England). But we can’t get anywhere near the rabbits here like you do, ours are not in the woods, they’re along the field edges and bolt as soon as you’re 30 yards. And over here someone owns every square foot of everything and will materialise from the bushes as soon as you set foot on their land, even in the middle of nowhere and tell you to “ get off my land”. Despite its problems the USA is still the greatest place on earth. Endless space, forests ,deserts, tropical beaches, mountain ranges.
Awesome video! Never thought of calculating my ft/lbs, now I want to do some testing. I know my set up gets the job done. How many ft/lbs are need for squirrels? Rabbits go down easy. Everywhere online just talks about gun metrics needs.
Hi Mike, I love all your vids. I really like the frames you make. I am new to slingshotting, but have many years of traditional archery, with the last ten years exclusively selfbows that I made. Could you do a vid on the frames you make from laminated 1/4” plys please. Is the grain all oriented in the same direction or some other orientation pattern? Cheers
More like this one? I have another build of 1/4 inch plies from a year or two ago. A red and yellow one. I don't bother to alternate grain orientation when there are more than three lams. If it is just three I will swap the middle one.
Have you learned about real Tung oil? There is a learning curve with that stuff, but I did a few stocks and it was awesome. You can have a flat finish, or a glossy, but it’s a little sticky, so there’s a good grip
Superb work of ir slingshot sir and great hunting with it. Sir I would love to see more FPS with those ammo what u r using so kindly make some more innovative slingshot by which u can get more powerful at ur target. Secondly I appreciate u that u measured ur ammo speed at ur target which is 10 yard. That is well done sir. If u can more powerful slingshot or slingshot-pistal or small slingshot gun would be love to watch sir. ❤ From India. Happy shooting🎉❤
Thanks. Most of my band sets generate a bit more power but not a whole bunch. People really get too power hungry and loose accuracy. My philosophy is accuracy over power as long as you have enough power. Having another 100 FPS would not have made these hares any more dead. Have a great one!
@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans ok sir I love watching ur hunting videos and since u have many tools so I said that u can make slingshot small gun to achieve bit more FPS and can have bit more longer distance to aim at ur pray sir. Well ur point is valid but of at all u can get more FPS like 300 fps with accuracy would be more district u can aim sir. Anyway great work sir👌❤️
@@AnubhavAnkitGeorge thanks for the response. Most of my band sets generate about 210 fps and I have taken game cleanly at nearly 40 yards with several of them. You can see that in many of my other videos. I'm not recommending light setups for everyone but it does consistently work. I don't think I'll ever shoot a slingshot gun, I think they are kind of silly. But everyone is different, do your thing. I showed the fps on this set of bands to prove the point that you don't need a heavy draw, high fps setup to cleanly take game. I think I have done a decent job of proving that. 300 fps is overkill and would throw off my draw cycle as well as the ammo trajectory. Lots of people hunt like that and it is effective, it's just not my style. Thanks for watching and giving your input!
@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans ok sir u right. And I do watch all ur videos, we r not allowed here to hunt any pray or animals. I catch fish on my youtube chennal mostly for snakehead. If u have time just watch it sir. Thanks for ur respond sir ,🙏👌
Missed one a few days ago. The eastern cotton tail in my neck of the woods(Virginia )are already on edge because of the cats. This video inspires me to keep on trying. Great craftsmanship brother! Do you ever get shaky with excitement? It’s messing me up lately
Oh every time. If you watch most of my videos I'm shaking like a leaf and I often do a half draw and reset. That helps. I also breathe out half way and hold it right before I release the pouch. That steadies things up quite a bit. Best of luck. In all seriousness watch some of my other stuff. I shake in almost all of them and sometimes you can hear the breath out before the shot.
@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans I’ll check them out. Thanks for the advice brother! The excitement and rush of cracking one is like no other…. Damn leg shakes too sometimes 🤣
This reminds me of my childhood ,y had one made by my uncle but wey simpler than yours ,just a pair of branches and a band tied Up but at that age y wasnt strong enough to shooted strong becuse the band was very tough but yours is fucking amazing and your aiming is incredible, well done 👏keep It going 💪
Looks great. Used to shoot homemade slingshot as a kid but had no idea about proper aim and stuff. I got by though. Why is it most if you guys do multilayered? Can i just use 1 piece of 2x4 and shape it? Thinking of making one again.
Oh man. The tinsel strength of a standard 2x4 is not enough. One of the tips will break off at full draw and you will lose an eye. If you glue a couple thin pieces together you get multi dimensional grain and the glue joint for strength. If you want to make one out of a single piece of wood use a forked branch and carve from that.
@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans Thank you very much for that info bro. Been going through a couple of your videos. Impressive. I'd like to be as accurate as you one day. And love that you have the little one tagging along. Guess I'll be hunting for a fork branch pretty soon. I've got 1 on order simpleshot scout xt. The laws aren't quite clear about it here, so I hope it comes through...
@@RippingLips23 I have one video with rabbit processing in it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E_eSudriFyQ.html After 7 reviews they put it back up but it's been demonetized. I'll avoid the hassle in the future. I'll cook some bunny tho.
What's the ammo used? I'm currently starting out making balearic slings, that I thought I could maybe hunt rabbit/duck with locally with some practice, but this looks a bit more precise with far less practice.
@@sturmslingshotsandshenanigans Ah cool thanks for the reply. Was not trying to disparage your shooting, might have come off that way (?), but the balearic sling has been going WAY sideways so far. That being said don't think I could get as close to the bunnies here as the ones you get (we call them bunnies/rabbits in Sweden; hares here are the big/fast ones). Would you recommend the catapults you can get prebuilt online (building my own rn would be a bit difficult to start not having a bandsaw)?
I'm not much of a tube shooter, but it certainly can be done. You can make holes to run them through, tie them on just like the bands or add gypsy tabs.
