Stunning Traditional Style Houses, Where the Craftsmen's Intelligence is Infinite to Resist the Harsh Weather.
#shirakawa-go #houses #craftsmen
Shirakawa-go is located in the north-western part of Gifu Prefecture, in the approximate center of Japan.
In December 1995, Shirakawa-go was registered as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the “Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama”.
The most unique registration area is the gassho style settlements in Shirakawa Village Ogimachi in Gifu Prefecture.
They are famous for their traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old.

Here is a young man who connects Japanese tradition to the future:
Kayabuki Craftsman: Tanaka Eisaku (田中 栄作さん)
Born 1984 in Gifu Prefecture
Teacher: Wada Shigeru (和田 茂さん)
Tanaka-san was born in Shirakawa-go and grew up in a Gassho-style house.
He studied under Wada Shigeru, who was responsible for the restoration of Shirakawa-go's thatch roof, and since then he has been working hard to improve his skills. ► Become a member of this channel to get access to perks:

Thanks for showing us. I love learning about how different cultures build their houses. Each adapted for their region and environment, using what materials are native to their regions. Glad to see they are passing the knowledge and skills to future generations.

Those homes from Japan remind me of Viking homes for some reason. Pretty amazing.

I wonder what they used to get them nicely trimmed and flattened before gas-powered hedge trimmers.

They could learn a thing or two from English thatchers. Nice looking buildings though.
