Stunning VFR Flight to Key West!

On Black Friday, Christine and I fire up Cherokee 8633E for a cross country flight to Key West!
We'll fly south along the Broward and Miami Dade shoreline under the Miami's Class Bravo airspace and transition through Homestead Airforce Base.
We'll then cross Card Sound and follow the Overseas Highway south before making a spectacular approach into Key West and topping it off with a crosswind landing.
This flight checked off a box on my aviation bucket list! What a blessing to be able to share this flight together on such an awesome day.

Great video, As a newbie, what was your Plan B if one suddenly had engines issues flying so lonw? Even at 2,000ft one can only glide 1-2 miles, even less with turns.

Great question! At 3000 feet, where I was flying, the airplane has a glide distance of about 5 miles. I made sure I was within a mile or so of the overseas highway so I had a potential landing spot near by. Of course ditching close to shore is always an option. Fortunately engine failures are rare in GA airplanes, especially when conducting a thorough pre flight to identify potential issues before takeoff and by managing fuel properly but it is something we always have to be ready for in a single engine airplane.

Not yet. But under IFR I have flown essentially the same route. Pretty cool at night. Instructor had me take the foggles of so I could see!

I think so. Fuel prices are super expensive but that's to be expected for the Keys. But they waived the ramp fee with the purchase of 10 gallons. Always good to call ahead to confirm the fees ahead of time though, I've read that they sometimes impose "special event" fees that aren't always listed. That didn't happen to me, but I have read some horror stories from others.

The I have left FXE multiple times heading to key west. Nice little trip the taxi fees from the airport to downtown are horrible every person pays full price I believe the last time we went it was $16 per person for a 12 minute car ride.

The Uber right for us was about $20 one way. Cab fare was $15 going back to the airport. Not bad for being in the keys I guess, but a lot pricier than elsewhere. It was a pretty pricing day trip all around, but the flight there and back was worth every penny!
