When I used to fish for sturgeon I used 25 lbs line test. I make sure my drag wasn’t too tight or loose. I was fine with 60 in. Sturgeon

Yup. 60lb mono is super fat. If anything I’d upsize on the leader.

Lol, old school 11' yep. That's what mine was. Cheap, reliable and heavy duty. Terrible for casting though. Haha!

So is the goal for the line to hit the bottom with the weight and then the leader with the bait sort of just freely drags around the bottom and might float? Does the bait have to float and suspend or can it be on the bottom? Im assuming the river moves the bait a bit.

As long as your close to the bottom you’ll be fine. I do better with sturgeon during stronger tides. If they smell bait they’ll detect it.

Stripers are back i was in the sac river a couple of days ago shooting a video and there is a lot of action, caught a few but it seems like it will be a good year for stripers and salmon as well, please check my channel out for a ton of upcoming fishing videos in the area, bless up !

live bait is always best. MINNOWS, MUDSUCKERS, PILE WORMS, BLOOD WORMS, SQUAWFISH, BLUEGILL, GHOST & GRASS SHRIMP frozen bait anchovies, sardines, herrin. LURES- paddletail swimbaits, hardbaits(jerk baits) & Glidebaits. topwater poppers 👍🏻

Surprisingly i can tell but compared to my 12” ugly stik it’s looks different when sturgeon bite but it took awhile until I got used to my surf rod but I love it now!

I was fishing for split tail or striper but I cut a stergen 64 inch on 25 test leader and 60 test line that was good fight for 45 min catch and release don't like stergen to eat striper much better to eat

STRIPERS live in both deep and shallow water, they move and school up quick, they’re in the shallow when feeding/chasing baitfish

I have multiple set ups depending on how I target, but the one in the video it’s a 7’ medium heavy moderate tip. 15 lb flouro and daiwa baitcaster

60lbs test line is over kill, 30lbs big game trilene is strong enough for over size Dino. I need to start bank fishing.

100% agree. Use 60lbs for leader yes. Too heavy for your rod and reel

I usually run 40-50 max but went with 60 while talking to Reggie from Freeport market, also casting distance isn’t as great with 60. Gonna downsize for mama striper in a month or so for live bait rig soon

You know I didn’t even realize that, I usually find a piece of plastic or leaf and put it in my rod holder so my line doesn’t get tangle when I set the hook but you know what I take full responsibility for that one. Although there’s was lots of trash before I got there and I usually pack in what I pack out. Guess I gotta get a new rod holder
