A Sturgil song that you would absolutely love is "You can have the crown."

When you dig into the lyrics, the take away is that all those substances can change the way you see and think about the world. There are a bunch of religions, with their own stories including heartache from believing it’s all being controlled by one man in the sky. But in the end, LOVE is the most powerful of them all.

When Eric Church was musical guest on SNL a few years back he brought out his friend Sturgil Simpson to perform with him. Simpson is also a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Being a sometime user of those substances, your comment about the wheat and the chaff is right on the money. Psychedelics often make you work hard for your insights. And many times the true wisdom comes long after "the trip" is over and, there's time to reflect. Came for the song, left with a wise metaphor. Happy trails!

I absolutely love this song, regardless of how you view psychedelics it’s been researched heavily recently. I, myself, started using Mushrooms and DMT as medicine after heavy research on them as a treatment for depression, anxiety, and PTSD (I served 6 years in the army) and I can say it’s saved my life aswell as a few other I know. “Loves the only thing that’s ever saved my life” is a true statement, more than anything. It teaches you love. A self love hard enough to get me to quit the snorting and drinking, and get a job! Haha, Peace brothers. Love the reaction!

I was trying to put my finger on what this song reminded me of, then the penny dropped..."Help Me Make It Through The Night" mixed with "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and maybe 3 or 4 other similar sounding pieces. I think it was probably the metronomic "tick" of the drum and bass line that put me there... and no, I'm not tripping watching this at 5 in the AM after waking up at half 3 in screaming agony...🥴 The information Keith imparted re: the psychedelic research sounds very interesting,,, wonder if it would have an application for chronic pain?... that may be something to look into...🤔 Overall I did like it, but as Keith said, not quite playlist stuff...😏 🙃🐨🇦🇺

Sturgill has some really good songs. My fav is probably "Brace For Impact (Live A Little)", he also has a REALLY interesting cover of Nirvana's "In Bloom" where he transforms the song more than almost any cover song I can think of. The album that both of those songs are off of "A Sailor's Guide to Earth" was a huge hit, won him a Grammy for Best Country Album.

If you want blue grass guys, do some Billy Strings & his step pappy, Terry Barber. They have an album called "The long Journey Home". Their music before the album was stuff straight from Appalachia pre-radio or Edison it seems. They also do covers of classic tunes that everyone on you tube will recognize and appreciate. A question for Keith, does Billy have anything on Terry's playing or singing style? Another stringed instrument is sometime involved. Looks like a 'very' old banjo or uke.

Country music is not typically a genre I feel I need subtitles for, but I felt I needed them for this song. Lol, I speak fluent Hillbilly, but couldn’t understand half of what this man was singing about. Have never listened to him before, and after this not likely to check out more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

There are a lot of factors in play that have aided a resurgence in the research of psychedelics. But 2 names pop into my head. Hamilton Morris and Joe Rogan. Morris, a journalist, has done extensive research into psychedelic compounds. Joe Rogan's podcast has on average 11 million listeners per episode, and Rogan has not exactly been subtle with his support for psychedelics, particularly DMT. I imagine there are an awful lot of people who probably wouldn't have heard of DMT and other compounds if Rogan hadn't promoted them on his show.

Sturgil Simpson is such a great artist, but I'd say that his sound sounds more to me like Waylon than Kristofferson. And that is no small compliment coming from me. His song 'Long White Line' is pure honkytonk music with a trucker theme. He should be a much bigger star than he currently is but unfortunately his outspoken political views are at odds with the fan base for his music and radio won't play his songs. He's more like Steve Earle and David Allen Coe in that manner. All are excellent singer/songwriters and possess pure country music bonafides but have been blackballed by the music industry for years. Personally I respect talent and even artists have a right to their own opinion. I don't have to agree with those opinions to admire their music. Definitely check out more songs by Sturgil, you won't be disappointed.

Sturgill is as good as it gets for modern country. He is a big reason guys like Tyler Childers and Colter Wall have been successful. Not everything he does is country necessarily. However, there is a reason that Waylon's son Shooter said that Sturgill is the best voice in modern country.

I don't remember what I paid, but I know it was more than $35 and it's not available locally. I think that bottle came from California. So I will just take your word on the bourbon, it doesn't sound like it would really be worth it to ship a bottle to me. As far as the part about the religions, I'm paraphrasing here but in an interview he said he basically just meant that they're all really just theories and none of us really know which is right so just don't be a dick to people. Sturgill's cool. This isn't the style of all of his music. A couple upbeat ones you might like are "You can have the crown" "Living the dream" or "life ain't fair and the world is mean" There's an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast with sturgill and he talks about how much he likes Tool and how much respect he has for Maynard james keenan... so he must be alright, right? 😆

Why was I not even a little surprised when you said the bottle came from California? There were only about 3-4 places I would have guessed. California was number 1, Boulder Colorado 2, Portland 3, and Las Vegas Nevada 4. Having Lived within 40 miles of Boulder my whole life, and having done significant work up there over the years both with Roofing projects and water damage mitigation, I can reassure you that a large number of people who live there only do so physically. Mentally they must be either at the far reaches of the solar system or they have gotten sucked into a black hole. It's a shame because that area is stunningly beautiful!

@MrNiccholas I googled it and it's just good ole MGP out of Indiana and bottled in kentucky. But I've never seen it in a store around here. It was $40 but the shipping made it more.
