I especially love your Style Arc sew-alongs, because Style Arc’s instructions tend to be skimpy. I’ve been sewing probably longer than you’ve been alive 😳 but I still learn new things.

Here here…been sewing so long as well. Style Arc is hard to understand at times. I have returned 3 of their patterns because I just could not understand what they were attempting to instruct.

That was great to learn about stay stitching to the centre, I've never come across that before. I think I need to work on my measurements, I might have cut out a size too big this time, but we'll see. I also need to work on my cutting, especially when I'm cutting out a pair on folded fabric, my pieces don't always match well. Thank you for this great Style Arc tutorial.

My pleasure! Style Arc patterns do run a bit big. I often have to size down a size depending on the style of garment!

Hello Whitney. Thank you for another great tutorial. I am finding when I am sewing particularly with woven fabrics that I am not using pins as I once did after I found the Islander Sewing System. My Aunty who taught me to sew worked in industry many years ago and I remember when I watched her sew she didn't always use pins either and utilised the feed dogs on her machine (an old Singer 319K). I do have this pattern and I am looking forward to making myself one and the matching pants too. Take care Lovely and love to Gidget xxx

Yes! The Islander system really helped to speed up my sewing!

I’m so glad I found this tutorial as I was ready to ditch this pattern because of the lacking of instructions. I didn’t even figure the size out without your help:) May I ask why you don’t serge the top together? I think the side- and shoulderseams could do without the extra work? Many greetings from Sweden!
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
I could have definitely serged it together. I don't know why I only use my serger for construction on knits. It would have definitely worked for this!

@@TomKatStitchery Thanks! My tunic is ready and I absolutely hated the whole process (the tunic itself is nice though). Never ever another pattern from this company. LOL, I’m on the way to the fabric store and the plan is to get started on the Joan this evening. But the non existing instructions were a nightmare.

I've just spent half an hour trying to work out where my pattern instructions say to cut the front on the fold 🤣🤣 . Then I thought I'd just skip ahead and watch more of your tutorials - phew! The tunic front is though, which is a bit confusing. Okay, here goes, I'm ready to cut!
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 2 года назад
I am so sorry about that 😂 . I have no idea why I thought it was cut on the fold!

Thank you for explaining all the steps clearly. I purchased the pattern but they only provide finished measurements for size 10. Is this typical for style arc patterns. This is the first time I am trying their patterns. It does say there is a 2 inch grade in the circumference between the sizes. I guess I have to figure out the finished garment measurements by adding the math for all the other sizes?? Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something somewhere. Thank you.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 3 года назад
Unfortunately, you are correct. They only include the finished measurements on size 10 for some reason. I'm not sure why.
@iberidela

Thank you for this tutorial, it helped with the rather unclear instructions with this pattern. By the way, you did not misunderstand about the fold on the front piece. I too cut it on the fold, as that was the clearly printed instruction on the pattern piece. I contacted Style Arc and it should be cut as two pieces. Their error, not yours.

Thank-you for this Whitney. Is there any reason you overlocked the seam allowance of the front facing but not the shoulder seams?
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 3 года назад
I overlocked the shoulder seams after I sewed them together (so they were overlocked together instead of separately).
@sharonrimsza7960
@sharonrimsza7960 3 года назад
Use an overlock stitch if your sewing machine has that stitch. Mark that page in your manual.

Hi Whitney! What size are your labels? Excited to see the finished top… I’m thinking of making one in the longer length for myself:)
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 3 года назад
I'm pretty sure they are 3/4" tall by 2" long. I have both sew in and iron on labels for depending on what I'm making and I've been very happy with the quality of both!

Hi Whitney, thanks for all your hard work. I signed up for waiting list to have colours done by Christie. It is now $427... that seems a lot. I am not a socializer and my day job is working as a nursery manager and the children certainly do not care what I look like lol. I am not sure what to do ?

I'm so sorry for the delayed response! Color Guru offers her service for $155 ($195 if you add in the makeup card). I have a 10% off code as well if you're interested: TOMKATCOLOR . Color Guru did my daughter's colors and gave me a complementary one when I became an affiliate for the company. She's also very good!

Did you buy the digital patterns or their printed patterns? If you bought the digital ones, you just need to download them and then you can either print them off at home or send them off to printed on large paper! Let me know if I can help!
