I'm thrilled that you're doing this sew-a-long! I made this top a few months ago as a wearable toile, and I just winged it. I'm looking forward to hearing how you interpret Style Arc instructions. If you're taking requests, I've been drooling over the Style Arc Kew Pants, but I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to figure them out. Hint. Hint! They've got a cute shape, and a jeans look on the front.
Thank you. I love style arc patterns but shy away from the more complicated ones because of the sparse instructions. I will definitely try this one now. 💕
So glad you are doing this sew along! I've wanted to make this ever since I watched your vlog on your dress. I just bought the pattern and plan to make it in a few weeks-with the help of your expertise. Thanks!
I have this pattern already 😊 So glad u r showing us how to put it together 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍. Love Style Arc patterns however they really do need to improve their instructions and I am sure they will sell more ! Thanks for sharing 😋🌻☕️
So pleased that you are doing this sewalong as I love the look of this top. I love style arc patterns but I do tend to go down a size as I don't like so much ease x
Yea! I have this pattern and will be following along. I’ve made Style Arch’s Gem tee, my first complete garment on my serger and it turned out well. It does have some skimpy instructions but I worked it out. I’ll be making more. I went onto the Palmer Pletsch website, they have a sale on that interfacing! I had never heard that Palmer Pletsch has a website or that they sold interfacing. I bought some.
I am thrilled you are creating this sewalong for a Style Arc pattern. I think I'll be making the shirt but I'm waiting for July to purchase it - I didn't want either of June's free patterns 😁. I think your explanations of the details are so helpful.
Hi Whitney, I made the top and it is very cropped even on me and I am only 5 foot tall! Looking forward to this sew along as I am keen to make the dress for our summer (Australia). Thanks for a great video.
If you cut a slit from the top of your sleeve, say a few inches in from the outside edge, down to just before the top seam allowance where it meets the bottom piece, close to the arm hole at the under arm but not through all the way. Then spread the cut a little, that would give you a longer sleeve but not under the arm. Wouldn't that work? By the way enjoying this. New subscriber.
I may try making this as a tunic length. I don’t like crop tops but this style dress does not look great on me. Maybe a mid hip tunic out of the dress pattern would work for me.
I typically go with patterns that have a top and a skirt attached to make a dress because of the HUGE size difference between my top half and bottom half. How would you grade this pattern to accommodate a severely hour glass shape in a style like this? My thought would be to do the yoke portion to fit the shoulder and bust measurement then cut the bottom portion to fit my hips but making the pleat in the back of the yoke deeper to accommodate the extra fabric. How would I hide the extra in the front? I love the easy look of this one!
That’s a great idea! You might be able to grade between sizes. There is quite a bit of ease in the skirt. You might be able to size down to make the grading not as dramatic.
@@TomKatStitchery I would most likely be able to grade closer to my bust measurement for the top part of the skirt section. I just hate it when you have all the extra fabric under the arm and bust just to accommodate the hips when it's basically a sheath from the yoke down.
I made this as a shirt a while ago and found it very cropped and went up at the front too. I’d love to make it as a dress but don’t want the same problem with the hem …. I am a D cup for dressmaking so maybe I still need to tackle a FBA … not sure how to on this pattern though 🤔
Extending the sleeve - maybe just extend the shoulder line, then draw a line from that point to the existing underarm. But check that your new line is at least the same length a the original sleeve width.
For $16 aud. That's too much inconvenience. No layers and the pages are not trimless. I usually use a projector for my patterns and layers help. They may want to address this in the future.
How did you find the online fabric shop to use. I have been looking at their fabrics for a while and was hoping to buy from them, supporting NZ is always good, but wondered what the fabrics were like. They are one of only a couple to stock affordable lightweight linens and wools, but financial concerns mean I can't afford to shop and find out the fabric/service isn't as good as it could be. Like the colours, especially the fabric your sister chose, and I really like the finished product. The design looks great on both of you.
I have shopped with The Fabric Store for a while and have had nothing but great quality fabric arrive from them. Their linen lines (the vintage wash and the heavyweight ) are my favorite linens to use!
Could you do the Bainbridge Pullover? I would like to make it look like the expensive Paladonia style. Where do I purchase snap trim for it? Love your show!
That’s a good idea! I’ll check with Kennis (Itch to Stitch) and see if I can do that! The trim in the front is just woven fabric and then I attached snaps to that!
Hi Whitney , enjoyed your video and had considered sewing along, but having a large bust, I dont think the flaps at the bustline would be very flattering. Do you have any suggestions for me?
I am planning to make this along with you but haven’t chosen the pattern sizing yet. I am 39”, 35”. 39” and will be purchasing the single size which also gives you one size either side. I find a multi size pdf far too messy to cut out and stick together. I think I will choose size 12 but would like to look at your video of your dress which you referred to. Unfortunately I couldn’t see a link. Could you point me towards it please?
Unfortunately, with the grown on sleeve, that tends to happen as it's just the nature of the grown on sleeve. However, sewing up closer to the underarm would help with that (which would be similar to sewing a smaller size). You could also just raise the underarm a bit on your current size. This will make the armhole smaller, but if you have plenty of room for your arm currently then it should be ok!
