Slightly off-topic, but I always carry a small plastic grocery bag in my handbag. It squashes down to nothing, and is so handy when you get caught in a sudden rain shower. An instant waterproof holder for something that needs it (e.g. baked goods in a paper bag; personal experience). Also a great idea for outings with small kids, so that you can carry home the “treasures” they find.

I use zip top bags to organize my hand bag. The snack size works well for my phone charger and cord and bigger sizes work for other items. I also use them when I travel to organize my suitcase.

Shoe hack that my mother-in-law taught me: Use clip-on ear rings that are medium to large size. I have used this hack for years to jazz up my simple style shoes.

That’s an idea that I’ve tried too. And for a bit more “glam,” I’ve seen clip-on earrings in thrift stores or consignment shops that are perfect. Quite often they have been donated by families doing a downsizing or decluttering of an elderly family member’s home. There are some real gems (pun intended) that date back to the 1950s and ‘60s. “Everything that’s old is new again.”.

For a simple handbag organizer, I’ve used inexpensive makeup bags from the local drugstore ( the kind that also sells makeup, computers, and greeting cards, etc.). Different sizes, different colours, easily washed, and inexpensive to replace.

I love the idea of a handbag organiser but have never managed to find one that successfully transfers from one bag to another because of the different sizes

Great tips. I’m a non-drinker and the smell of drinking alcohol (ethanol) makes me feel sick, so I use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) instead, it works great! In a solution of alcohol:water 1:1.

I have a tip for changing handbags. I use ziplocks. One for keys and one for makeup and put them in a bigger one or two gallon depending on bag size. It’s clear so it’s easy to see through and when it gets messy just change them inexpensively. So easy to change bags now! ❤️

I LOVE the idea on how to extend the jeans to fit when they are too tight. I think I get bloated in the afternoon or sometimes after a night of special food I am not as slender as I would like LOL! Great tip!

When putting garments over my head, I use a cheap shower cap that I get in hotel rooms. I place it on my face and hair, and the garment slides easily over without getting my hair messed or smearing makeup. I keep one in the bathroom and one in my closet. It's so easy to pack in my makeup kit when traveling.

My mother told me the same scarf trick. It must have been a thing in the 50's and 60's when women wore more makeup and had "coiffures". It's especially good if you're wearing white. Hello brides out there! All the tips were great, thanks Beth!

Great tips! I used #1 during first trimester of both my pregnancies! Also, if you have a sweater that sheds, try putting in the freezer for an hour or so and that stops the shedding. Anyway, thanks as always for the info! 💛

I also have a fan running in my laundry room most of the time because that’s how I dry most of my clothes, instead of with my tumble dryer. After wearing a coat or jacket, I hang it up in front of the fan overnight and the odors are gone by morning.

Canvas tote bags are apparently the most popular bag in Paris right now for women and men, too, so I tried one. I found it really irritating because my keys, lipstick, etc., kept going to the very bottom and I had to unload the larger things like my wallet to retrieve them. Then, I found the Bag in a Bag purse insert on Amazon, which neatly solved the problem. Unlike other brands, this is nylon, so it’s wipe-clean and super lightweight, is inexpensive (the small size I got was $13 US) and has tons of pockets and dividers, I love it. I removed the detachable elasticized key ring because I don’t use them, but it is a nice feature for those that do, and is also lightweight.

Vodka is also good as a countertop cleaner. The high alcohol content disinfects and the alcohol odor disappears much faster than chemical scents 😉 Also love the shoe clip hack - can’t wait to try it!

I use the scarf trick all the time and carry it with me when I shop in-store, someday we’ll be able to do that again. I use a silk one in dark colors that didn’t work out for me. It doesn’t make sense to me to ruin garments with makeup, either I’m going to buy it or someone else will, and some fabrics, like silk, can’t be restored, so stores throw them out. This increases the cost to us consumers, ultimately.
