I love how they compare a trombone fanfare to an arrangement for a whole band, yes j-state bones go hard on that fanfare but this arrangement uses the whole band to capture the full emotion of the original song, I've listened to a lot of bands, hbcu and pwc but I've yet to see any arranger do what Haymer and Carnell Knighten did for their bands
we all know this band cranks, they're professionals at what they do. but they took it to a different level, and here's why.. even su's piccolos crank. shout out to the piccolo's and their one-note solo that what heard around the world lol. -NSUtrombonist.
There are plenty of videos on RU-vid of bands playing this as a t-bone fanfair, from HS on up and they all sound pretty much the same, just a lil difference in quality. But how many videos can u find of whole bands playing this and making it sound like this? SU is unfukwitable!
PoSSiBly.........one of the BEST SU performance I've heard. I go all the way back to Bayou Classic 1984. Have YOU heard a better performance?? Balanced, in tune, POWERFUL!

You know what I notice what ever song su write for the in that year when the sun bands that comes along later and says it don't play it with that same passion as that band that originally played it
Best Arrangement played by ANY band in quite some time...way to bring the musicality and excitement back to marching bands SU. Don't get me wrong, bands like SU and FAMU has always been on top, BUT organizations that fail to embrace change will become obsolete. SU is changing while holding on to its roots. SU sound is phenomenal and this is the best they have EVER sounded in my opinion. They've been sounding better and better every year from 2008 (the first year of major sound change) - Present.
You're sooo right because JSU used to have a smooth sound that actually was good to the ears and then all of a sudden they wanted to crank like SU when they don't understand SU was built to crank like that by Doc.

They really play with so much passion, look at them blowing and giving their all on every song... they not the only HBC dat does this but why be a hater when u can recieve blessing from supporting the HBC moment? Black people lets grow up the hell up! Blesses to be able to hear and see the entertainment yall give!
michael wright You stay trollin' the 100 man. Seriously, what did FAMU do to you? You sound like Vlad hatin' on Nas alll day. The two bands are set up different. Southern is brass heavy with very little woodwinds. Their founder was going for a brassier sound. FAMUs woodwind section is distinctively larger than the brass. Dr. Foster wanted a fuller, rounder, more balanced sound. If you add our woodwinds to Southern the two bands will be the exact same size. Brass section size has always been comparable amongst the two bands. Btw, this joint is smokin'! Great job SU! Props.
What are you talking SU has great dynamics they only play loud on the Chorus because it is the CLIMAX of the song and they play softly and smoothly on the lyrics so you can groove and then they slowly get louder in the hook then BAM full out power and beautiful sound in the Chorus sooo I don't know what you're talking about.
