@@deusexaethera It is unusual, simple russian mentality, why put some extra metal if it doesn't have any real advantage, some people find it ugly, but I find it very practical.
Sky as always your videos are top notch and first rate - The SU30 , 33 , 35 in my uneducated opinion the most beautiful fighter jets in the world and with the new addition of the SU57 taking first place .
Inb4 there actually is a pilot flying one of these in the Russian Air Force who traces their lineage back to the Tsarist times and their family was real nobility.
Saying "Sukhoi was impressed enough" make it sound like it was designed by someone else other than Sukhoi. But MKI was also designed by Sukhoi themselves.
Sukhoi 30mki is a licensed built version. it's production line in nashik facilities in india. Major changes are Israeli and French equipments used in su-30mki. So the Russian made deals with those French and isreali components for their su-30sm.
@@akashkabram924 well youre wrong. The su30mk is the EXPORT variants for other countries. Mki is the INDIAN upgraded version of the Mk. Mkm is the MALAYSIAN upgraded version. So, the mkm is NOT based from the mki
fun fact: while Su-30MKI birthed a lot of different Su-30MK versions, Su-30SM's closest sibling is the Malaysian Su-30MKM. It is basically identical except European avionics and sensor suites are swapped with local Russian ones, and cockpit labels are Russian. Even the panels that used to hold these sensors are evident on the SM. However 2 things from the MKM is left intact in the SM, and that is Thales 3022 HUD and Thales Damocles pod from France.
@@DM-cd6jj Sukhoi was helping HAL make MKIs, this was time when Russia was having economic troubles. They knew MKIs avionics suit was better then what Sukhoi had at offer, so Sukhoi developed a jet using Russian avionics, in late 2000s when times were getting better and Sukhoi could invest in developing avionics comparable or better to western ones. They showed it to Russia military and they were rather impressed and release funds for further development and manufacturing. Su-27 a very versatile plane get even more versatile with Su-30 and more deadlier with Su-35.
I played ace combat 7 just to get this plane, it’s currently my most flown aircraft, having completed the campaign, 4 times in it, and in multiplayer I’ve only spent a grand total of one hour out of this jet, like Mister X said
Was amazed by the SU-30SM with classic SU lines. So grateful I finally could design, construct and fly my own SU-30SM scratchbuilt RC plane. I just couldn't believe myself that it's able to mimic real SU-30SM super maneuverability. Thanks for sharing the video! 👍
u might to consider to wacth the su30 was be thr main reason why sukhoi reproduce su30 as su30sm even thats su30 was be replicated as su30sm was fly for olmost 20 years and stll get specially attentions from f22 raptor pilots after few times travel thousands Mile's just to practice with they call SUPER SUKHOI SU30MKM.
The Su-30 is my favorite aircraft. Maybe not as famous as the Eagle but it's gonna sneak up on enemy jets real quiet like and shoot them with its huge gun. My neighbor is an old F-4 Phantom pilot. He saw a little action in Vietnam. I keep telling him to write a book. He had his share of close calls and narrow escapes from MiGs. These are my 3 favorite aviation books: - Her Majesty's Top Gun by Sharkey Ward - Vipers in the Storm by Keith Rosenkranz - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
Sky. I would very much like you to do a video on the SU 34 Fullback. ( the flying tank) My favourite aircraft in the world are ( besides F14 Tomcat) all of the SU 27 family . The SU 34 offers so much as a combat aircraft (including a galley) 😆 . So many of my favourite aircraft are Russian. I beleive its the no nonsensence aproach to building but still results in a beautiful result. Best wishes Sky ✌
If I could make my own nation, I’d definitely be buying SU-30s for their multi-role capability, and would purchase one for myself because I want to fly a super-maneuverable plane.
Su 30 programme survive because of Indians buying it before even the actual variant that was in talk was fully tested.. but very cleverly they demand modification with western avionics on this eastern skull.. RussianAF was so impressed by it that they bought same variant afterward even after having some MKs.. Chinese make clones of it.. not only for PLAAF but also for PLAN without carrying about licensing contract.. such is the Vigour of this platform.. one thing people must agree Russian designs are DOPE
The Chinese ones are actually clones of the SU-30MKK which was further developed into the SU-30MK2 which the Chinese cloned into the J-16. The SU-30MKK is also different than the MKI as the MKK has a lighter, less advanced radar that makes the MKK cheaper to produce than the MKI and allows the MKK to hold more weapons.
@@vassilistzaferis4277 Although its a russian plane Indians modified it using french, Israeli and Indian equippments. Russians like that design so much and decided to make Su30MKI version for their own airforce and named it Su30SMs. But now Su 30 MKI will get AL-41 engine, BVR and Avionics Upgrades.
I love the Su jets. They are on another level. They might not be as computer heavy as the US equivalent but overall I can't see any problems with them. And the way the pilots handle them, wow, it's another thing all together. Stunning machines
Quite interesting history about this wonderful multirole warplane. It is an example of how costly build an combat airplane could be that even the countries which can produce them has either produce new ones based on the airframe of existing ones or making a new but with multirole capabilities. About the plane in mention, the sukhoi SU-30SM, it is a great platform, and its good reputation has been gained by testing it in real combat missions in the Syrian war.
Su 30 MKI is Indian variant of SU30. When sukhoi licensed this design to HAL (India) in 2000 then India modified it using French,Israeli and Indian equipments. Its capabilities are almost equal to Su35. Russian defence ministry liked that design so much that they ordered sukhoi to make same aircraft for Russian Air force then russian made it using Su30 MKI design and replaced french and israeli parts with their own ones. Su30Mki is equal to russian Su30SM. But now Indian Su30MKI will get AL-41 engine and various avionics and BVR upgrade which will make it very similar to SU35.
MiG-29/35 is lighter/medium fighter, while Su-27 family is heavy fighter. While MiG-35 is good,Russia has no reason to buy big quantities of MiG-35.MiG-29-35 was/is a good frontline fighter and takes little time to scramble and they require less infrastructure. Also, due to it being lighter fighter,it costs far less.MiG-29s of Russia have been modernized heavily over the years and Russia is ordering MiG-35s,but in smaller numbers than Su-30/35.MiG-35 is ideal for smaller countries(due to range) or as a backbone of countries that cant cash out for too many heavy fighters or due to conditions need a smaller fighter.
Excellent ... I'd love more info explaining the different LETTER variants of each model. Perhaps starting with episodes that compare & contrast the Su-27, Su-30, Su-33 & Su-35. I know the differences substantial (eg: side-by-side in A-G role vs. in-line seating) which is why it'd make a good series. Thanks!
to put it briefly: su27 is the basemodel, su30 is the heavily upgraded base model with different levels of modification depending on the variants, su35 has even more modifications on top of that. su37 was an experimental version with 3d thrust vectoring and other features, discontinued as the su37 but lives on as the Indian variant of the su30 i.e su30mki and its derivate, the su30sm :)
It is a fighterjet, developed to bring destruction, but the jets of the SU-27 family are so beautiful. And the supermaneuverability, all these figures in flight! I like to watch videos about this plane.
NO COMPARISON ever between RUSSIAN AND AMERICAN AIRCRAFT. RUSSIA'S are works of Art, Stunningly beautiful and as DEADLY as can be. SALUTE to Russia from a retired South African Boer.
I’m loving all these armchair academics of military hardware. People who actually fly planes and are in the industry have complimented the plane as impressive tech that competed and out does the American industry in different aspects. Russian hardware isn’t a joke. Then again, this ignorance is probably a good thing for Russia. Not taking them seriously like Rome didn’t take Christians seriously.
This is a jolly good video, thank you very much for your valued efforts. There is no mention of the SU-37 in your video; is there no connection twixt the two? I am interested to learn? Thank you again.
@@mahesshnath No. The correct statement should be :- "Nearly half of them are used by India" and not "Half of them are used by India.". India uses 272 SU-30 MKIs which form the majority bulk of SU-30s in the entire world.

Cool. If the russian Fighter becomes a new ashtray, they get a new number and all think its a complete new plane. It looks like a SU-27 with new painting.
@@Lea_Kaderova Yes, but the call it still F16 cause its an updated F16 and not F58 or something. And this russian SUs are all updated SU27 and not brand new fighter. Same with T90. Is an updated T72 with new turret, not a new tank. T14 is brand new.
@@PropperNaughtyGeezer No, its not. Su-30SM have different airframe than original Su-27, different engines, different radar and whole avionics complex, have whole new capabilities with integrated new weapons etc. Call Su-30SM or 35S a "SU-27 with new painting" is just ridiculous. There are almost completely different airplanes in similar airframe.
It’s a shame that other military forces don’t use these animals, Europe have Eirofighter which part of those countries aren’t really best part happy with them as it had potential but like most things that take too long in the making its flawed in ways. The US insist that their allies purchase their F- series but has limited avionics, could you imagine Europe running SUs or MiG’s.?? These are really big and heavy aircraft but cool to see in the air, whereas the little Gripen sneaks in slaps you and runs away and you never knew what just hit you..!!! The days old French Mirage and the F-14, still cool to hear and look at...
India developed the entire su30, India designed the MKI version with its own money whi was taken away for free by Sukhoi due to OEM rights amd offered it to Algeria, Indonesia, etc and their own SM.
I am from India. We Operate Sukhoi SU-30 MKI which is Indian Version of Sukhoi SU-30. It's a really good Aircraft! Russians Design some really good Jets! Marvel of Engineering! Respect from India! (🇮🇳🇷🇺)!
@@johnbacon4997 Is that meant to be sarcasm by which you are indirectly trying to Say that Indian Pilots are way more Unprofessional as compared to Russian SU-30 pilots?
This plane I feel is underrated compared to the 27, if I had to choose b/w 27 and 30... 30! all the way! looks like a babyish version of the 27 cus of the length of the neck (longer in 27, smaller but fatter on 30). Canards, anyplane having canards is an instant love at first sight in my book. 3D Thrust Vector, same sentiment! Reason why I love the Su 37 so much, Su 47 would've been number 1! for me but it doesn't have 3D thrust vector, but none the less I love it too!
this su30sm was build by sukhoi after su35 was in productions line after Russian see how deadly su30mkm with fews high technology hardware, radar and weaponry systems was adapting into su30mkm and after few times f22 raptor pilots was practiced with this species of flankers jets and how f22 raptor pilots seriously giving SUPER SUKHOI to su30mkm even sukhoi was build latest su35..
Su30 sm series are no longer capable as the su35. Even the chinese J11B/D and J16 are far better than the Sm, I think that it should stop at su30mki for india.
It's a fantastic design but, when you look at it properly...... Russia are introducing new military aircraft that are as old as the original SU- 27, which first appeared in 1977. As good as they are, they're still 53 years old, yes they've improved many things over the years for use on the latest version but it's still the SU-27 underneath. It's definitely a good way to keep the costs down..... which is important for Putin..... because if you look at the West, they develop brand new aircraft designs which cost an absolute bloody fortunes!!!
