For those who have started collected more high end watches. Every now and again you see a watch that makes you go .... "hmmm". As in, "hmmm, why am I paying 5k for a watch again?". That Longines is a prime example.

Long time fan of Watchfinder videos; first time commentator. Great narratives and horoligical history, product quality and features. Really enticing and points hit home with the close up videos. For me, it really hits the point home... and why I now really appreciate the iPhone's camera macro capability. Not as good as Watchfinder video camera, of course, but it does allow me to examine my own watches more closely. Keep up the great work and thank you! I find myself looking for new Watchfinder content while I'm on break from work and daily life. Lastly, theis video series help raise awareness of what watch enthusiasts have known all along: creation of fine watches is art and should be appreciated as such!

@Dapdoi ArdonGot a point to an extent, but when it comes to watches people buy them for different reasons. I personally purchase watches because I love the memories you can associate with them. Doesn't matter if it's the 300$ Victorinox I inherited from my wife's father when he passed away or the Rolex Submariner. Each watch has a memory that I can relive every time I look at my wrist. If you are buying a watch to "hold value" or show off, you can do better. Just depends on how you decide to enjoy your watch hobby.

The microtubes are coated with phosphorus and react with the decay of the H3 beta particles, the phosphorus also glows when exposed to UV. You often find Ball watches in UV lit display cases to show off the lume in daylight.
@iaeeniaeen1898
@iaeeniaeen1898 5 лет назад
Strictly speaking, tritium doesn't lighten up at all. Instead, the vials contain luminescent paint that absorbs the beta emissions and emit visible light.That same paint can react with UV light in the same way it reacts with beta emissions, so shining a UV light will indeed cause it to glow much brighter and be visible to the camera in a normally lit room.

Hamilton would be another nice choice in this price range.

I own a Ball Fireman Enterprise, and it's been a great watch. I recommend it for those who want a less-expensive alternative to the Marvelight.

Glad you are covering a wider segment of watches (instead of just the very high end)

Personally I am really enjoing the SEIKO Samurai. For 350,- to 500 bucks one can get an amazing dive watch, depending on the variant. Clearly outperforming the infamous SKX in its finishing and overall quality. To me the styling is superior by miles and I enjoy being able to wind the movement by hand instead of having to rely on the automatic function. Overall it makes for an ideal daily driver, working with bracelets, rubber, leather, or nato straps.

Can we get a video of your personal collections/favorites/grails? Any video of that sort would be fantastic

skx007-skx013... in house movement, 200m water resistance, gorgeous design, looks great on any strap, been throwing punches at other divers for decades. yes it has no hacking or hand winding but it’s still a treat to own. also, trintec instrument series watches were the first watches that mimicked gauges on an airplane. giving other manufacturers an idea to grow on.

If I’m going sub 1000, I’m going Longines all day. Or, a mido.

Midos are really nice, well some of them look a little bit weird to be honest

Those watches look great, especially the Ball with its tritium tubes. Who really needs to spend more than that for a watch if you just need one to tell the time? I can recommend the Tissot Seastar; I've had one since the mid-90s and though it hasn't been serviced recently it still keeps reasonable time. IMO, it's nearly as good as an Omega Seamaster for about a third of the price. I have a earlier incarnation of the watch than this one (mine is a plain day date automatic); techcrunch.com/2018/10/30/the-tissot-seastar-1000-is-a-low-cost-and-high-quality-swiss-diver/

I bought the 2018 version a few months ago and I´m absolutely in love with it. I got the blue dial and I really adore this sunburst effect

2nd the Tissot Seastar, I bought a ladies one from the 70's for my daughter as her first mechanical watch last year. Had it serviced, had the seals replaced and is pressure tested to 100m and keeps within 10 seconds per day..... Not bad for a really stylish looking little watch with a cuff style bracelet and costing £30 + P&P... Gotta love Tissot!

Thanks for reviewing the Ball! I own the same Engineer II Marvelight and it really is amazing value for money and well put together. Some of Ball’s newer watches now use an in-house movement too!

@Asanga Perera Hi there, I'm looking at the Engineer III line, beautiful watches! How does it wear? I'm hesitating between the 40mm and the 43mm. Cheers!

Nicolas Molenaar it has a solid feel to it, particularly the band although I don’t find it overly heavy. Feels just right. My suggestion is to go with the 43mm. Good luck with your purchase!

Both Ball and Longines are quite underrated; both are superb watches. Ball is COSC rated. Great video!
