Instead of presenting candy on White Day, there is 'Baekseolgi Day', which presents snow-white rice cake. It is a day designated to encourage rice consumption in 2012. I think there are many people who do not know it yet. I also recently found this and I thought it was a good idea, so I prepared Honey Baekseolgi recipe to commemorate March 14th, Baekseolgi Day.
Not only is it beautiful in shape by putting plump heart jeolpyeon on it, but it is also full of brown sugar filling with minced walnuts in baekseolgi, making it savory and sweet ^^
When making jeolpyeon, you can make heart shape after steaming and kneading it, but it's easier to shape it by making a heart shape before steaming it. If you make the heart shape in advance and steam it, you have to divide it into two steamers, so it is a hassle to steam baekseolgi separately. For those who make it, please refer to it and make it in your preferred way🙆♀️
👉 Tips for making Honey Baekseolgi
- When forming a heart shape, cover the dough with a plastic bag or wet cotton cloth, or put it in a steamer to prevent the dough from drying out.
- When steaming heart doughs, divide them into two steamers, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of sugar each on a cotton cloth and then put the doughs on it, so that heart rice cakes come off easily. I omitted sugar when kneading the dough because it was moderately sweet. If you want to make rice cakes sweeter, add sugar while kneading it.
- You can adjust the amount of sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon powder for filling according to your taste. To make the filling spot neat, omit walnuts.
- When steaming the rice cake, be sure to steam it with the fire off or with low heat, so that the rice cake does not dry quickly and the moisture lasts for a long time
- When making with dry rice flour, add 5.5 cups of water to 11 cups of rice flour and let it rest for at least 2 hours before making.
- If you are using unsalted rice flour, add about 10g of salt.
- Storage: If you eat the rice cake on the same day, keep it at room temperature. If you want to eat it for more than a day, put it in an airtight container and keep it frozen, then reheat it in the microwave before eating. Avoid refrigerating it because the rice cake ages more quickly.

💗Baekseolgi(Steamed Rice Cake)
7 cups wet rice flour
7T sugar
30g walnut
80g black brown sugar
1t cinnamon powder

💗Jeolpyeon(Pounded Rice Cake)
4 cups wet rice flour
1/4t sweet pumpkin powder
a pinch of beet powder
a pinch of green tea powder
4T sugar
*1Cup=200ml
1T=15ml(cc)
1t=5ml(cc)
*When you use dry rice flour, put 5.5 cups water in 11 cups rice flour and keep it in the fridge for 2 hours before cooking.
*Add 10g salt if you use not salty rice flour.
