In this video, we take the wagon off roading and try out the new wheels!
I plan to upgrade the tires in the near future, but I wanted to show you guys what the wheels look like on the car. I can't decide between the Yokohama Geolanders or General Grabber AT2's. Thoughts on the battle wagon so far?

Hi, Zack! First of all- great channel, great overall video quality (sound, editing, etc.) and great content! Keep it up! Second of all, me and my friend were inspired by your plan to build BattleWagon, so we went out and bought 4x4 1.6 liter '00 Impreza wagon (same green color as yours) in OK-ish condition for around 600 euros/700$ (which is a steal here). Currently we are fixing it up so it can be driven daily with comfort (leaky exhaust, worn clutch cable and general cleaning), but in near future we are planning to swap Forester struts and shocks and put on more aggressive tires. So, we are almost on the same page :) With some off-roading background I recommend you Geolanders for hard terrain (rocks, packed sand, etc.). Tire pressure makes a huge difference. Grabbers would be better on more loose and slippery surfaces (wet sand, mud).

BFGoodrich KO2s will always be the best off road tire. They're spendy, but out perform the other brands. That's what I'm getting for my 03 Impreza wagon

Dont have any experience with the General Grabbers, but I’ve had the Yokohama Geolanders for about a year with a little over 15,000 miles on them. Took them all over the Eastern Sierras on a ton of terrain (dirt, mud and snow) and they’ve been fantastic. Still have much over half the tread on them too!

What a difference the wheels make! I'm searching for a project subie right now. Cool videos, really well done. I'll be watching for what comes next!

I had the Grabber AT2. They look great and for a time, they were good. Once they started wearing down, they were very loud. If you only occasionally go off road and drive on the street, go with the geolanders.

Just today I got my Forester struts and trailing arm spacers installed and it's at the shop to make sure I didn't do anything wrong and to get an alignment. So stoked. Just need the rims and tires now

Fun video! So long as the Miata is a stick shift.

Looks like a blast man. I'm out in the Kitsap area, kinda on the hunt for a project vehicle I can use to rip some Forest roads. Maybe I'll see ya around 👌🏼

Personally, I think the 15" steelies with massive rubber is the better way to go for off road. Tires are everything whether on or off road, wheels not so much. Aluminum is lighter, sure, but going to a larger size increases the possibility of rim damage and catastrophic failure. Steelies will bend but can be bent back on the trail and get you back home. Fashion or function, your choice. Keep up the good work. Subscibing.

Wow…! You must have damaged your oil pan at 2:47 (that's an 11, right there. Not good!). You need a plate underneath. Please, sketch it, make it and share it for all of us. I would appreciate much! May I suggest a battery-alternator check instrument for you? Easy install, at Walmart for $15 (I'm in Canada, btw). Thank you.

Hi, Zak (may I call you that way?) Fantastic video. Concerning the tires Diameter, it might diminish your torque and output, just enlarging 1 inch more on it. Try it. I once went from a size 11 to 13 and it never drove past 90 km.h. I could not say though, if the speedometer was fooled or it actually lost toque.

It changed the o/p ratio from the small engine (Ford Escort 1300cc, 196, similar to the one Hanu Mikola drove in rallies in Europe). In the end, it ended having less power overall and, yes, the km conversion was an speedometer issue, though. My family (three of us) drove that car from the tip of Argentina to Venezuela, several times through different routes and destinations. The skid plate can be made lighter (3/16) and reinforced (in the inside) with fibreglass resin and 4 extra strips of metal (the same thickness), specially at the oil pan location. Just a thought. Let me know if you make one...

Dude, I also have U-lock on my cargo basket! Currently working to install skidplates on my 98 OB. Lift is next!

I feel it, dude. Only reason I locked it was someone tried to steal my rack when I was parked in Fremont by highway 99. Just rachet WA things. :D

Hopefully you'll see it when it's lifted. I think I'm gonna go the same route and use Forester struts and springs to get the lift on my 98 OB. Aside from being cheaper, are there any benefits versus using something like King Springs on my existing struts? Also, which trailing arm spacers are you gonna use for the rears? I'm excited to see where progress with this car, as I'm also slowly getting mine turned into a battlewagon! Definitely subbed to your channel and your FB page, great work dude!

Nice video love the channel. I would not recommend the general grabber at2 because general discounted them so in a few months you won't be able to get one in case you have to replace it

You should look into 215-70-16 cooper at3 4s I just put them on my 2002 subaru outback sedan no rubbing at all

The 215-70-16 is equal to just under a 28 inch tall tire

Hey don't do the General Grabbers they constantly become unbalanced and you will need to cut your fenders.

@@bendaga Not a problem. I just lifted my 98 impreza and have been talking with the community on what is best. Just find some big winter tires and it will look good. Some 15mm spacers to push the wheels out will help with the look and handling.

Hey William - Happy holidays. I would try primitive racing or kartboy for lift spacers.
