Tired of your "Subarus Sloppy Shifter" ? In this video I am doing a Subaru Sloppy Shifter Fix on my 2004 Forester. This is a pretty straight forward task/modification that you need to do to your Subi to fix the sloppy shifter. This procedure applies to the PRE-2006 Subaru 5MT. However, please check your year, make, and model respectively. Hope that you enjoy it. CHEERS!

FYI when you install the rear bushing you see at 9:15, the hole needs to be up, in other words, the opposite of how he is holding it in the video. Oddly, every image of that part seems to show it the same way he is holiding it, but trust me, the end of the lower shifter arm will not fit with the hole on the low side. Also, a good way to get those bolts back in is to have someone in the car, either do the tightening or at least hold the part in place. You just have to take the shifter boot and mounting plate off. It makes the whole process a lot easier. Great video, thanks for putting this together.

Nice! The new bushings really tighten up the shifting assembly. You will love it. A short shifter is on the to-do list…. Hahaha it is a long list .

For the rear bushing which side faces up the tapered side or the fatter side? Can't find that info anywhere.
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau 3 года назад
Oh man... I can’t specifically remember the orientation. I do remember looking at the old one and going off of it. I wanna say the flat side was up. But yea go off of the old one.

Hey! I’m interested in doing this job after watching your video. Could you please tell me what tools you used to take out the pin? Especially the longer thin one. Thank you so much!! And if you remember the size of them? I’ve ordered the bushings from kartboy. Thank you again
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau 3 года назад
Awesome! It will make a pretty big difference in the way your shifter feels. As far as the tools I used for the job, I had a 1/8 hex socket attached to a long extension for the pins. Once it bottomed out I slid a broken scribe on to punch them the rest of the way out. But if you have a long punch set that would be ideal for the job. Hope this further helps out. Good luck on the job.

Thank you!! It took me forever to take and put back in what is commonly known as the bitch pin haha. Thank you again the shifter feels so much better! The rear bushing by the shifter didn’t fit well so I may just get the oem. Thank you again!

The back bushing that is bolted to the under side of the car, does the rod have a lip in your car? I just got this bushing to replace but I feel like I can’t get the rod in?! Do I just need some lubricant...??
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau 2 года назад
It will for sure help to lube it up a bit.

Wanting to do this for my Forster got a quote from a shop said 270$ ish or so.. said they would have to drop the trans slightly to do this.? But looks easy threw you ford sure. I have a 07 sti trans in my 07 forester is it the same.?
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau Год назад
It should be similar. Obviously the STI trans is larger so you will be limited on working space. So it’s possible that you may need to lower it a bit. Thanks for the engagement. Hope your install goes well. Hit me up on IG where I can see your progress. Cheers!

What gear did you leave it in when you replaced the linkage? Or is neutral best?
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau 2 года назад
Neutral is where I left it.

Im doing this on my 03 wrx and I got the smaller roll pin out but the bigger one won't come out no matter what I do and how many smacks I give it, any recommendations? and yes I am using actual roll pin tools
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau Год назад
Yea man sometimes these things can be super annoying to remove. Perhaps letting it soak a bit with some good solvent…. Outside of that just keep hammering at different locations around the pin. Hopefully it releases for ya. I have seen some people using some type of pneumatic device (air hammer, palm nailer, ect)to get out stubborn pins. Gotta be careful with those however. That’s all I got for ya though. Good luck on removal. Thanks for watching and engaging. Cheers!

Did you get any more road noise or transmission noises from the Polly bushings?
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau 10 месяцев назад
No, I didn’t notice any extra noise.
@MarcoLopez-mp4zi
@MarcoLopez-mp4zi Год назад
so i just replaced the shift linkage and not the bushings but when i replaced everything back together, i noticed my shifter was like leaning towards the left in neutral not directly in the center. I took out the whole shifter assembly and put it back the way it should be. Would you have any idea?
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau Год назад
That’s odd. My guess would be something is/was not aligned properly or your bushings are totally shot. Possibly a combination of the two. Perhaps check over everything to see if you see anything obviously wrong. Hope you find the issue. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

It’s probably the spring. Mine was missing when I was doing the install.

Could you advise some parts resources?
@AdrianBilladeau
@AdrianBilladeau Год назад
I use primarily Kartboy, Whiteline, and IAG products. Well at least on my forester. I have used them in the past as well and I have always been pleased with their products and customer service. But there are several different companies that have bushings for various components. Hope this little bit helps you out.

Depending on the age of your car, translate 2 hours into 2 days. You should expect problems that are not on this video.
