Subaru Vintage Garage- 1998 Impreza 22B STI 

Saw this exact 22B at boxerfest. #16 of 424. Jaws were dropped and tears were shed as myself and others just could not believe what we were seeing.

This car is why so many people create an RSTi. My '00 RS is stock but I also own an '05 WRB STi. I love both. The super aggressive look of the RS front end and the classic look and performance of the '05 WRB STi - best of both worlds.

Back when Japanese car manufacturers built the best cars in the world. Subaru, Mitsubishi,Toyota,Nissan,Honda.....All of them years ahead in terms of technology, and right at the top in terms if craftsmanship and performance. And now....? They don't even make decent family cars.They can't even compete with the god damn VWs nowadays. What a shame....

Nice piece of info on the 22B. Glad I was able to see it in person during Global Rallycross NJMP in August 2010. Truly amazing vehicle build with all the quality parts in it.

I'm not really a fan of Subaru's but man... Videos like these really show you the beauty of where great cars are originated. It really, truly brings out another side to them. Beautiful.

I was 14 when this car was popular, with the rally etc, and remember wanting one so bad at that age.. Thankfully with the help of Kraft Dinner for most of my meals i bought my new blue with gold rims 2005 STi which is fuckin raw as it gets. Thanks subaru now make a 400hp STi.

Great history with STi , that's why I chose the WRBlue and gold 2004 STi USDM as my Daily driver. It even has World Rally team decals on it.

Ahhh they were the days - from memory here in OZ we scored just 4 of these even though the the GC8 was sold here from 94 onwards.

I wanna see this kind of car come back to Subaru. I want a truly WRC/rally based car again.

Great little video/doc here. It's amazing to see Subaru putting effort (and some of their marketing budget) into a car-model from 15 years ago that we Americans weren't able to purchase. Subaru really cares about their past, present and future and this video shows that. It also clears up that "22B" stands for the engine size and codename for "turbo." Well done Subaru marketing team. Thanks for the effort.

Their WRC success, the release of the 22B and evolution of the WRX and STI really put Subaru on the map as a performance brand to be taken seriously.

What few people may know is that the 1999 Subaru Legacy Brighton with Cali emissions used this same block and transmission which led to a very vibrant driving experience. This 2.2L that Subaru developed was superior to the 2.5L day of the day but required a much more expensive build due to the block casting and the use of many forged internal engine components.

Well I'm a VW nerd, and the 22b, or this gen WRX/STI one of my all time favs, I need one in my life, even a clone, tuned, would suffice.

So Subaru? You've made the Impreza go from this? To that boring "eco friendly" looking abomination 2015 WRX? For shame....

Colin Mcrae drove for so many manufacturers and in the end this was his favorite car :,) Im happy sti is even still around (unlike Ralliart and the Evolution now) but they should try to go back to this!

Subaru impreza TURBO 22B, wrx, sti, type r, the classics, wagons. Most Expensive Cars to Maintain. They will give you nothing but problem after problem. I was brought up with them and owned the subaru impreza turbo cars. Also had friends who had issues with them, brother who had nothing but problem after problem. II will say (When they are not playing up they are very pleasing cars to drive, and handle so well, they will give you a huge grin on your face, on a lovely b road on a sunny day. But that is rare. Take that from me i had 25 years around them.

22b and GC8 are probably the best looking impreza around.

22B is my dream

The first time I ever saw this car was in Gran Turismo 2. And I was instantly smitten.

The emblems color came from the color of cherry blossom trees in Japan. This is my dream car know the heritage lol.

GC8 + 2 door conversion + tuning a 2.0L engine to hit 350hp or Buyinf Evo 6 RS, stock 280hp, 0-100 = 4.6 sec ?

22B was like Integra Type R with AWD and 40% more power. I don't think it would beat Type RA or Spec C from 2005+ but it looks 100% better. The closest to 22B today are the S206 and S207 cars today.

This is my favorite subaru of all time :) My 2nd favorite is the GR chasis sedan or hatchback but I honestly prefer hatchback look. The 2015 looks like an Evolution X ughh (sigh) hope the newer generation will look better or subaru will do something about the look. I like the handling and sound of the new WRX and STI though.

I was always under the impression that the "B" stood for the special Bilstein suspension option, like the rest of the "B" labelled Subarus of the time...

Cars like this 22b is rare since every other car is sedan crazy not enough coupes out there no more...

Is the 2.5 they released in the states the same chassis as the 22B?? Is the suspension style the same?.. And what is the suspension? (Double-Wishbone all around?, or did it use struts or something else in the back?)
