In today’s episode, I’m humbly admitting that I was wrong and you, my amazing subscribers, were right. While building our cozy cabin, I made a significant mistake: the upstairs decking was installed upside down. You all noticed and pointed it out in the comments, so it's time to fix it and give credit where it's due.
Join me as I correct this error and take your suggestions to improve the deck flashing. Your sharp eyes and honest feedback have been invaluable, and I truly appreciate each one of you for keeping me on track. Let's make this right together!

I’m glad you stepped back and did the joist flashing, I was one of the guys that made the suggestion. Every deck that I’ve torn apart and rebuilt did NOT have the flashing tape on the joists, and the joists were all rotten on top. Cheers from Tokyo!

The time thing....my daughter tackles improvements at her house by herself. She was asking me how long I thought one of her projects would take, I told her 2 hrs but plan on 6. She laughed and said "what?" I told her you'll learn quickly on how fruitless it is setting times for projects, so I guess, then multiply by 3, and it should be somewhere in the middle. A few days later she said I was right...😂

I love when you share this: I was talking with my father as i was telling him about a project I was doing, and he said "make sure you measure twice.. " "yeah yeah" "... and cut once!" when I was fitting a new floor in our new build. ... I measured twice. and cut once. and installed it upside down!! I had to call him afterwards... I still laugh about it.

Hey Cody! I am a finish carpenter by trade-- when you make the final cut on the exterior boards, I would highly reccomend sealing the end grain with some wood glue (titebond 2 or 3) or some wood sealer. The end of the boards is porous and will soak up any moisture-- this increases the chances of rot and can be remedied by smearing some glue on the ends of the boards. Also-- i would domino or use a biscuit joiner + glue the corners of the picture frame if you can. Cheers and thanks for letting us live vicariously through you : ) God bless you and Mrs. W.

The best thing about DIY projects is you can take the time to install material with the care that the manufacturer intended instead of standing over the shoulder of contractor in hope of getting the job done right. Sorry to have to say that but those who don't operate by high standards tarnish other true professionals. Hats off to Cody for installing the peel and stick flashing with care even though it will not be seen again.🎉❤ These things speak volumes to integrity and professionalism.

I like the look of the floor upside down better even with all that rubber on your deck joist if the sides of the wood get wet it will suck the water up via osmosis if anything im willing to bet it will cause it to rot faster since the wood is no longer breathing on the top side better to have a small gap between the deck boards to let the wood breathe

Hello from Canada.Great video. I think I see a POTENTIAL PROBLEM 😬😳. On either side of the deck were you a picture framed it. Were the edge of the your deck boards touch your picture frame. It will look great and it’ll screw down nice into your backing. But there is no support underneath the backing. I have only built a few decks in my day. But I would definitely do this. If you were to jump up and down right where the deck board meets the picture frame it’s a weak spot. Keep being you. You’re making the world a better place.

Not bought the 18V Surge but I figured if I need stronger impact, the standard 18v will do but the quieter 12v Surge over the standard is fantastic for first and second fixes, especially inside cupboards etc. Beautiful cabin!

Had a builder rebuild the back of my house about 12 years ago, when I still had one. As this meant the house had no toilet for a month, I could hire a porta potty, or for half the money, I built an outside dunny. Never attempted such a thing before. Poured a slab, plumbed the sewage, vent and water, framed it with code stud walls, clap board external walls and a lean to roof. Blew the builder's mind when he saw it. Said it was made really, really well. Who taught me how to do timber framing? "RU-vid...and I f*&^ed up about 7 times before getting it right"

I completely understand your frustration with the noise that impacts make, especially in an enclosed space with no soft surfaces it can get significantly headache inducing. However you might consider taking a gander at oil-pulse impact drivers. You get the benefits of an impact drivers speed (Because lets be honest, impacts are just night and day faster for some jobs) with a drastically reduced noise level. They aren't quiet, but I feel in many situations they are worth the small difference from a regular drill for the increased productivity. Obviously you would have to make that decision for yourself as that is a personal thing. Anyhow just a suggestion for you that you may or may not have already considered. Beautiful work by the way.

I have learned a great deal from talking with AI, like Gemini or Copilot and watching it talk with such confidence even when it is incorrect and how it acts when corrected or questioned, the certainty and inability to listen was interesting to experience from the receiver's perspective. I do my best to be courteous and respect it in return and it was fascinating teaching and correcting an AI without concern of error because if I am wrong I am learning and if AI is wrong than it placates me and pretends to care, but does not learn repeating errors and acting like a cocky asshole but receptive, oddly receptive and happy to learn even if the program lacks memory beyond the conversation. AI is worth trying.
