Totally 100% agree. I don't have a huge room and have dual Monolith 15 sub, but I am on concrete. I added some $50 transducers to each chair and it made a huge difference. I am interested in your Crowson unboxing/review 90% of the time only 2-3 of our home theater chairs are used so I may just upgrade the first row to Crowsons and leave the cheap ones on the second row :)

For a long time I thought bass shakers would be too gimmicky until my daughter one day talked about an experience in a local 4D theater. I hooked up 4 Dayton Audio bass shakers along with the amplifier in the kit from Parts Express. Experimented with the best placement on each of the 4 chairs and got everything dialed in. I can only say WOW! The vibrations add so much to the experience of the movie. I refuse to watch a movie without them. When the wife talks about what a difference they make says a lot. A demo movie to put your bass shakers to the test is the Blu-ray copy of Escape Room Tournament of Champions. There was so much LFE that my wife and I felt physically spent as if we were actually in the movie. We feel this was a great investment. One word of note, it seems for me that there was a slight break in period but they are fantastic.

Curious of the decision for the Crowsons instead of HoverBoss type setup. Could you comment on that? Ive been considering a Boss setup, interested in what convinced you to go the Crowson direction.
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
That's too much tinkering and I don't want something that lifts my seats that much. This is much more of a finished product and now that they're installed (as of this past weekend) , the seats float on the actuator and isolators. I also don't want a theme park type effect so the hoverboss would be overkill. I'd have them so dialed back it wouldn't make sense. The Crowson are dialed back quite a bit. I also have some friends that have tried both and while the hoverboss was cool, it's not something they felt they wanted while crowson was.

@@hometheatergurus If you have the money for it I think Crowsons are the way to go. I didn't want a platform lifting my sits that much and also I think a BOSS or HeZe are kinda over-the-top because I don't want my seats moving that much. So I have Tactile Transducers plus 12" installed inside my theater seat and it goes down to 5hz - and tinkering was minor. Invisible to the eye etc. If I had the cash for Crowsons I wouldn't have done it
@shaolin95

@@hometheatergurusill first, he is an integrator so he cannot sell Heze. If you want the biggest capability of impact , Hovereze is far superior to Crowsons. But unlike crowsons you will need to DIY and how pretty it looks will be based on your skills. It's also much cheaper. So the only reason to pay much more for less performance is, WAF and easy setup the you get with Crowsons. When you feel what a correctly setup Hovereze Cone Up can do, there is no turning back
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
@@shaolin95I'm not an integrator and don't sell any tactile transducers. some aren't looking for a ton of impact but just want to fill in. I'm kinda in that boat. Even the cheap options have more output than I use or like. That said perhaps in the future I'll find time to covert one seat with a diy option just for fun. Again, I don't sell any tactile transducers. I'm a designer not integrator. I recomend to clients what I have personal experience with. In my room designs I have a recommendation to prewire for tactile transducers but don't spec what they get. I do have recommendations based on what I've personally tried.

Tactile transducers are an excellent addition to your home theater. I’ve used them for years in my HT, as well as on both my flight sim rig and on my racing rig too. Like most people, I originally had them “turned up” too loud where they’d activate even when Darth Vader talked. Once I tuned them to only activate at appropriate times - explosions, machine guns firing, tanks/airplanes, roaring monsters, etc - movies really came alive. When friends came over and first experienced them (without knowing I had transducers), they were shocked at how much more immersive the movie watching experience was. They couldn’t believe that the transducers added that extra dimension where a movie was not only seen and heard, but actually felt. You can set the crossover in the amp setting or use a low pass filter. I highly recommend them!

My HT room is a quazi open floor plan (with full acoustic treatments, not just a living room) Pressurizing the room would be expensive. I personally am a proponent of near-field subs with dsp control. Transducers are ok. Their best application (imo) is to use them for the "feeling" when you aren't capable of pumping the volume up (getting tactile effects minus the vol levels).

I literally didn't even know these were available for home use. It makes sense, but you're the first person that has a video that brought it up. Weirdly, as a bass player, I'm not super keen on lots of subs and having them cranked up. I'm a big fan of a clear and poignant sub experience. But I used to practice my bass all night while the rest of the house was asleep, and to properly hear it I would rest it on my chest and hook it up under my jaw, so my lungs and skull became an amplifier so I could hear it without having to play super loud. I didn't experience that again (aside from concerts) till I saw a movie with the 4D experience, and I loved it. Finding even cheap ones I think will elevate my viewing experience and I'm SUPER excited to try it out.

Good video. I’ve been on the fence for a bit. Previously I had some Buttkicker Minis and at first I loved them but then overtime the gimmick wore off and I realized I preferred them dialed back. Then I went to 4 properly placed ported 18’s and the tactile feel from those was perfect for me so I sold the Buttkickers. However, my subs do roll off pretty steeply at about 16hz so I don’t push them too hard past their tuning. Also, I hate having room vibrations. So, I’ve been on the fence on whether I should try transducers again just to cover 18hz and below. Ill be interested to see more about the Crowsons too.

I got 2 Earthquake Q10B tactile transducers and a Behringer NX3000D amplifier to drive them in a single-circuit, 4-seat couch. Honestly, I don't even know where to start. Thought it was just a matter of setting the amp in bridge mode and call it a day, but the behringer has so many customization options I'm now overwhelmed and scared to blow the shakers. If the point of those devices is not to hear, but to feel the rumble, how am I suppossed to calibrate the phase & EQ? Do they need calibration at all? At how many Hz should I set it? Should I limit the amp's output wattage? Am I drowning in a glass of water? It feels terrible to see the stuff you spent a pretty penny to get just getting dust in their boxes because of the looming terror of blowing everything up right when you turn it ON :( so, any help / videos on how to set an amp (a REAL amp) to use these things, or how to EQ / calibrate them, is very much appreciated!!! 🙏🏽

Great video and thanks for sharing your professional experience! Tactile bass has been my final challenge when building my own home theatre. I am eager to hear your opinion on the following issues: 1. In your personal experience, is there any difference between sealed vs. ported subs or between many small subs vs. few bigger subs with regards to the subjectively perceived tactile experience? (assuming that all setups are well integrated, same FR/house curve, same listening level, not exceeding their dynamic output capabilities etc.) - So basically my question is: "Does driver size, transient response or anything other make a difference w.r.t. tactile capabilities of a sub even of the dynamic output measurements are similar." The reason for my question is that in my HC room I am missing a bit of the tactile experience except for *very* high, uncomfortable listening levels (like -7db below reference or higher after AVR calibration) although my subs are not compressing at my typical listening level of about -12db. BTW, I am running several SVS SB-2000 subs and measured ~120db peaks with REW at my MLP in my small room, that's why I am wondering. 2. In my experience tactile transducers can perfectly improve the immersion (but need also good integration), but in some cases the bass from the subs seems to "disappear" when using TT. You are not noticing the subs any more. Some guy in an internet forum was complaining about a similar issue like I do. Any idea/oppinion on that? Best regards Christian
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Thanks. As for sealed vs ported i've discussed it in a few videos. This one however is IMO the best one as it shows you how drivers behave in one vs the other and where each alignment has pros and cons. I know it's about designing a sub but it's very easy to see the differences and i discuss them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H052sYo-2Cw.html I should probably make a dedicated video on the topic.

Crowson's are on my list. Im looking forward to your video on integrating them. Will you talk about how to get them a signal that is not altered by the room EQ? Specifically with ARC would be great
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Yep. That is one hurdle I will be explaining. A sneak peak. If you properly place the subs/seats and align them properly, eq flat before hand and assuming you have a similar seat to seat, as long as you don't measure room nulls (which is why you need to know where they are) then the room correction doesn't really do anything but add the house curve you tell it to. You can also turn on sub 2 (assuming it was off) and use it's signal. As it would have been off during ARC (assuming you use a minidsp) there "should" be no correction on it. I know it feeds the TT doing this but I need to verify what it's response looks like.
@hifihometheater
@hifihometheater Год назад
@@hometheatergurus you would also want to change the house curve or even remove it from the TT signal or risk bottoming the transducers out. Since transducers aren’t using SPL, we aren’t dealing with equal loudness contours so the house curve isn’t needed. That is, unless you just want more shaking down low but then I would rather just turn the transducers up. If we can just use the AVM70’s Sub 2 as a flat signal, that would work great.

@@gabrieltechreviews8185 , sure in some cases they may sum ok but as sub location is extremely important to seat to seat similarity, drivers at the wrong spots can also cripple it. A minidsp can't fix placement issues. See ep 7. It's just something to consider.

@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Yes however if you've seen the ARC tutorial this next sentence is touched on. If you get the subs aligned and Eq'd manually, ARC doesn't have any real correction to do but you need external DSP. All it's really doing is applying the target you tell it to. Also when using external DSP you only use one sub out. If you run ARC then afterwards turn on sub 2 (which was off during arc) it is active. I need to verify but it shouldn't have any eq applied as room correction was never ran on it.

So they "feel them from 10hz to 50Hz", and they say they cut at 50hz to feel better the chest slam at around 63Hz. The thing is, that according to your chest slam video, the chest slam is around 30Hz. So now I'm quite confuse 😅
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Yes the Lpf will be discussed in upcoming videos and was touched on in this video. If you watch the chest slam video it's not only 30hz. You'd see a large area under 50 peaks for those scenes we watched. That was RTA showing some popular scenes. I didn't say chest slam was "here" . We only looked output in a few scenes and talked about what was measured. You see where the energy is so no matter what someone may think... The brunt of energy for "those scenes" are what was shown. If you want to know how other scenes measure that's something any of us can easily do. Measurements are good about that. They don't care what we think.. they just show what is. 50hz was used here only as example. A dip anywhere in the. Sub region can kill impact.

@@hometheatergurusyeah you are right. What I think it's that those famous scenes aren't really chest slam. Take the accountant training scene. If I crank the volume, I don't really feel the chest. What I feel is a huge sound wave hitting my whole body. For chest slam I think we should be looking for diffent kind of feeling. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment for chest slam (I have 2 HUM 15", but not top quality), I only felt once a proper chest slam In a guy I bought equiment from, and that was amazing, a hit just straight to my chest. It was watching TRON. I have two monolith 15" thx waiting in my garage for me to have the time to set them properly with a minidsp. Hopefully I'll be able to get that famous hit only in my chest and not only the one hitting your whole body. Thanks for your videos. One of the best channels on RU-vid. Keep doing this amazing work 🙏

@@santiagoezquerrocordon1470 I and many I know call that in those scenes chest slam but maybe we all have a different idea of what it is. Not a big deal though. Just crank it to you smile, subs and tactile transducers!

I added a Sub directly behind my seat and boy did it change my movie theater experience. Less work than the transducers with what I think is a better result.

I've done both. Transducers are the best way to go. With my Denon 3800H tuned them to work extremely well with my two subs. My wife loves them.

Did you end up getting these set up? Worth paying the premium over much cheaper TT's? I've really been looking forward to the next video in this series since I am planning on picking some of these up.

Hey Mike.. Yep I'm editing the unboxing this week. I've had them for a month and they are fantastic. I've always had some type of tactile transducer in last theaters and love them all. I'd say even the cheap ones are awesome and these add maybe a 10 percent improvement. I do have to agree these are the best I've had. You pay a lot for that 10 percent but if you can swing it then it may be worth it to you. If not do yourself a favor and get something cheaper, just get something! 😁

So, do you feel these would be able to replace having/needing or wanting bigger subs and maybe use something like in-walls (like the SVS in-wall 3000) subs and still feel like you’re getting that great home cinema sound and feel that box subs are able to?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Under 20 yes, IMO these can fill in down low where most ported subs lack. With sealed subs, If you want a linear response that extends under 20hz it quickly requires a lot more displacement but that can do it. This is why you often see rooms with stacks of sealed subs. They're chasing the low end output. I like ported subs as you can get a ton of output (above tuning )so you need less subs vs if you used sealed subs with the same driver. I would still want large subs though, you just wouldn't need to worry so much about digging really low but you still want to make sure you have enough displacement to hit your levels cleanly. They do help above the low stuff of course by adding that tactile kick but keep in mind above 20hz you're in the audible range so good subs are still important.

I think a combo of both near field subs and transducers might be the best mesh of both worlds. There is something about subs pushing air pressure that feels slightly better than transducers but having both seems ideal. Plus with transducers you can have a similar experience at lower volume levels!
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
@@doublet147 nearfild is fun but you have to be careful as they can mess up your seat to seat consistency as you're placing sources of bass in the room at positions that may hurt subs already placed to fix room modes. For a small seating area it's usually fine though.

@@hometheatergurus I COMPLETELY agree with you. Near-fields can (most likely/definitely will) mess up seat to seat consistency when paired with other room subs. However, if you take some time and lots of measurements (and use dsp of course), I still feel this is the best outcome for a true visceral experience. I'm not knocking transducers. They are IDEAL for so many situations. But I still think they are just shy of actual air pressure if you had to choose just one.

I've been using tactile transducers since the late 90s. They don't have to be all that powerful to really make a big impact (pun intended :) ). Another great thing about transducers is that you can still have an impactful experience at lower volumes. Was a great thing to have when my kids were very small. Could still watch movies and enjoy them without worry of waking them up. Without them, it seems as though something is really missing.

totally Agree. To get a natural feel you don't need to have a ton of motor force. I wish I had mentioned the fact you can watch in night modes and still get some kick.

Adding TTs to your sofa is a game changer, my system packs a punch with a mixture of 10 passive and active calibrated subs, when the tt is off it now feels really lacking. It can be done on a super tight budget too with used ebay car subs that are modified and the amp doesn't need to be powerful or high fidelity, the subs give a powerful shake down to 5hz and can be refined and calibrated with rew and a dsp just the same as your subs

So update. I actually on accident when cleaning my seats from seatcraft found they have those shockwave transducers in them. I would need to buy 2 of theyre amps to power them too pricey so I got a great deal on 4 mini lfe buttkickers bought the amp and going to try those 4 and see if I like them. If I do Ill go further down this rabbit hole. I may need to use theyre wireless kit when ai built the room I didnt leave the option to run wires for this so I dont want to tear up the floor. The wireless will add a slight delay but I can adjust that in the 5th sub out on my HTP-1 and hopefully dial these in to taste

That's an awesome surprise. You can actually power the seatcraft ones with a standard amp like a cheap pro amp, sub plate amp etc. But the butt kickers are fine. If you need help join our Facebook page under the name home theater gurus.
