By "softening up" the elbow in between hits you have less of the blade for opponent to parry. Arm should not be pulled out entirely but rather 30-40% bend in order to "reload" for the next hit.
Legs should not be moving forward while arm is reloading. Arm first then the legs.

In my country these young fencers would all be expected to be fencing foil and exclusively use pistol grips. Its cool to see young fencers use epee, and even cooler seeing them use French grips

This is so fascinating!!! I have been looking for a video to help me know what to do when my opponent is feinting a lot to try and force my hand. This video gave me some great ideas to use! Thank you!!! I also liked seeing how you corrected and taught your students when they made a mistake:) Encouraging and correcting all at the same time!

Thank you for watching. This is especially great when you pin your opponent on 2 meter line and then force them to search for your blade and as in the famous words..."You reach I teach" - Michael Jordan

Could you please make a video on how to make one of your static fencing targets with an epee blade? It is nearly impossible to find any real info on how to make one or where to buy one.

I was in a bout with a friend of mine where I was leading in points before he managed to change the tide and steamroll me, afterwords he said he was able to "parry quarte sixte" do you know what I would have been doing wrong to allow him to get points on me, and how I could have avoided/counterattacked?

If opponent is searching for your blade you have couple of option. 1. Present him your blade and soon as he reaches for it look to do double disengage (or cut over is ok too) 2. Decide after the two disenages what are you doing, are you attacking him on prep or are you looking to score in his recovery or simple counter-attack to the arm? 3. Choose the one you can do and execute with confidence. Last option is absense of blade and use your body as a target to bait him out

Vodovozov? It's russian surname. Sometimes it really surprises me how many russian or ukrainian fencers are in English speaking countries. I'm a russian fencer myself btw. Good video!

Hi I am from India and I am also a epee fencer when I plays the bout I know that which attack should I do but while playing I become inconfidence so what I should practice. Plz guide me.

For confidence building , try to attack as often as possible on opponents step forward. This way you will maximize your chances of scoring. Hopefully if you score more then you will gain more confidence. Also consider practicing certain attacks against weaker/younger fencers to build up confidence

@@HowtoFencingbyYarikandTim I love this answer! When your talking about building confidence to, " try to attack on opponents step forward, I understand that it brings them closer for you to threaten and feint and all that. Is that the main reason it maximizes your chances to score more? Because they are closer? I am fairly new to fencing, and love it! But I want to get better, and am lacking in confidence when it comes to having bouts. I know I need to practice more, and this will help. I feel confident as far as knowledge goes, but when I am in a bout and it is time for execution, more times than not I feel like I cant recall anything I have learned. I know I said it before, but I love this setting of your video with actual interaction during a class. It is professional as well as real so I feel like I can relate better and learn more because they are all learning like me and sometimes make mistakes, but keep trying:) Thank you for your time and efforts to make this video! I am going to make sure to watch more!:)

@@jaylenelamoreaux6792 ideally you want to start your hit as opponent lifts the foot up to take a step forward. While foot midair is when the hit should occur. Reasoning: what goes up must come down...if you attack mid-step on your opponent they will NEED to have that foot land on the ground before they can push off of it to change direction... thus you will have a time advantage .
