Very true. For years I struggled to tell people that I often can’t meet up or work because of my depression and anxiety. And now as it’s more accepted when I tell people they’re like “ugh yeah I’m also super depressed lately” and I don’t even know what to reply 🙃
Because people started blaming all of their actions on mental health. Being depressed does not give you a pass to treat people like crap 👏🏻 you can’t blame your disrespect towards others on mental health issues. I don’t know how people started getting those two things confused
While I don’t exactly disagree, I feel like it only _seems_ to mean nothing because a lot of people say they struggle with mental health issues, and because it comes across as a trend, we assume it is. But in reality, nearly 40% of the population does actually have or will have a mental health condition.
@@Myplaylists93 Pete Davidson struggles with an often mischaracterized/misunderstood and difficult personality disorder, BPD, and he's honestly got plenty of reasons to talk about it openly and deserves to.
She really got that: "I'm purposely being a sexist douchebag because I know the exact audience i'm trying to appeal to and it's 100% gonna make me rich, and boy do I know it." vibe down perfectly.
I don’t think it’s going to work like that in Matt Rife’s case, TBH. I think he shot himself in the foot. When he portrayed himself as a relatively progressive guy, his shows were selling out anyway because he’s really good-looking and got huge on TikTok for bantering with his audience. He’s vocalized his disappointment in not having many male fans, and his sudden turn to sexism is his attempt to change that, but the fact is that he’s not funny. He never was. So he’s not going to grow his straight male audience no matter how sexist he is. Because he sucks, and he’s bitten the hand that fed him.
You people are literally throwing a bitch fest over one DV joke 😂😂😂 Y'all weren't crying like babies when he made fun of handicapped people though? So it's only when it applies to you? Hypocrite! He's a comedian, nothing is off limits. Otherwise, WEAR A HELMET 😂
“Can’t even make jokes anymore because people will censor you.” (puts on the same smug smile every man has ever when they know they never get held accountable for what they say) Perhaps it’s dupers delight? I’ve seen it in every man who complains they’re not allowed to say “anything anymore”, and yet they’ve never actually stopped, nor used their free speech for anything more interesting than “hey women are hot but stupid amiright amiright heughheughheugh bagina”
They literally say that bullshit because the exact audience they're trying to appeal to laps it up. Not cause it's remotely true. Be cool if it actually was true, honestly, cause then maybe they'd finally shut up about it and get original material.
He went wrong somewhere, all of his RU-vid stuff I find pretty good. Netflix didn't even have the same vibe. I didn't even know what he was on about. I stopped about 20 minutes in. I'll give him the candy cane joke, he got a good crowd response from that. I couldn't keep watching him. It felt like totally different material.
@@samanthagaboo5610 my friends and I felt the same. We found him quite a while ago and enjoyed his stuff on RU-vid! But his Netflix special just did not carry the same energy
@@samanthagaboo5610 Agreed. I watched the whole thing, but it was... off. He's really only known for his crowd work but he's trying to branch out, I guess. Honestly, that one joke everyone complains about wasn't even that big of a deal, I've laughed at more offensive jokes that actually had great timing and setup. But that one he told mostly felt like a joke someone would make to their buddy in a random bar in the 80s.
@@kiasta1yea it’s clear he’s gotten good at crowd work but he hasn’t really locked down his jokes yet. He wasn’t ready for a special but because he’s been popping off on Tik tok and social media in general of course they’re gonna throw money at em. I think he will look back at that special and cringe later on down the line.
tbh most hour long standup comedy is fucking corny now anyways. they are cheap to produce (relative to a tv show or a movie) so they are given out cheaply, and as a result, the medium has gotten worse. caitlin is doing just fine imo with her own shtick, her own thing, and it resonates more with young people than some netflix special would
I hope she gets one, but there are some good ones. Both of Taylor Tomlinson’s are great, and I also love two out of three of Ali Wong’s (Don’t care much for Don Wong). If you like Caitlin there’s a good chance you’ll like them as well, they are all great
@@Luxington1 yes but why be cruel or “truthful” in a moment where it’s not need and/or simply impolite and uncalled for? People like him act like they spit some truth the world was waiting but they’re just acting like an asshole
@@Luxington1That doesn't mean that what is cruel is inherently true. Also, people go to comedy shows to take a break from life's cruelty, not to wallow in it.
@@ohboilien It sounds like we have different experiences, because I don't know if these situations. But I can't conceive of a time when truth isn't important, or when manners are more important.
@@Luxington1you're confusing manners with kindness. You can tell a cruel truth in a kind way. And honestly, sometimes the truth doesn't need to be spoken if it's just nasty. Saying "I don't respect women" or "I'm racist" might be the truth for someone, but when they say it and get pushback, they immediate start getting pissed off and saying "I'm just telling the truth" and "the truth is more important than manners."
You can’t say anything anymore as a comedian because they’ll just cancel you. Anyways, this is my third comedy special where I talk about how that exact thing.
@@thelemurofmadagascar9183 no, the thing that made that guy mad was a joke another comedian said about getting molested which he said brought up his own molestation. that replica gun with the blade also wasn’t out when he tackled Dave. Also, Chappelle is still performing and getting specials. You guys still don’t know what cancelled means.
@@tel4650 I'm not really sure why you think the fact that the blade wasn't fully out makes the situation any better. Chapelle was still physically assaulted for making a joke, and if the attacker hadn't been stopped, he may well have tried to kill him. That's about as serious as it gets. The fact that you're trying to downplay physical assault just proves the point.
@@tel4650 . . . It proves that you can get physically injured or killed for having the wrong opinion. Are you actually this obtuse or are you just pretending to not get it? I'm dipping out now. You clearly are either incapable or unwilling to understand what I'm saying, so there's not much point in continuing this.
“ _‘Cancel Matt Rife!’_ Bitch, you can't cancel me, I'm not a gym membership!” *laughter, applause* ....an actual, planned-in-advance, deliberately chosen joke-a _highlight,_ no less-from this Successful Comedian’s big special. I just can’t believe I listen to podcasters that regularly make better jokes off-the-cuff than this guy does is in his brainstormed, written, edited, curated, rehearsed performance.
does anyone remember the solid 5-10 minute bit in his special where he kept telling a woman to shut up because her “red flag complaint” about a man she went on a date with claimed he was a men’s right activist? just me? OK 😭
@@travis00017 This is just one parody of a type of man out of many others she's done. I was referring to them as well. There are many teenage boys who also act like this.
I never thought I would find a genius in youtube shorts lol great ideas, even greater execution. I mean, I know nothing about acting, but I feel like I can get a grasp of what good acting is after watching you. And the satires are always witty. You're so great Caitlin
The fact this type of guy is always a hop, skip and a jump away from becoming a cult leader despite this being the peak of his wit and intelligence makes my blood run colder than his sickest burn
We know that the concept of a collective unconscious is real when there is no need to check the comments to KNOW that everyone got Matt Rife vibes from this
Yassss! Give this guy a Netflix special please. Not only was he insightful and vulnerable about his mental health struggles, he was completely original. 😂😂😂
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for pointing this crap out! What is the deal with this kind of humor getting so much undeserved adoration?! Caitlin, your comedy rocks my world!
The mannerisms with the bobbling of the head after saying sick like just taking in all of the free applause is everything. Even the looking up at the bannisters when seeking out sympathy. Jesus Caitlin, your attention to detail 😂👌
Never heard of "Matt Rife" until I read all the comments mentioning him. If he's anything like this - and given Caitlin's hitherto dead-accurate portrayal of all types of people, I know that he's definitely like this - then I won't bother looking him up (though I suppose he'll get so big I won't be able to avoid him soon enough).
He made some questionable jokes. It's been all over the internet (comedy and commentary channels mostly). Do not recommend looking him up directly though.
his clips on tiktok started going around, garnered attention for funny crowdwork but also because he was attractive. large generalization, but men kept saying he wasn’t funny and people only liked him bc he was hot and his largely female audience defended him saying he was funny. lo and behold he gets a netflix special, and opens it with a…. really bad joke about domestic violence. the short version of the joke is “maybe women wouldn’t get hit if they got back in the kitchen” which ppl didn’t like for obvious reasons. now he’s getting called out for jaw implants, being generally unfunny, and just a huge dickwad
He has good crowd work, which us usually where he does well in views, but his set jokes are just a bit tired. Nothing engaging about them from the 20 min I managed to get through from the special. They would have popped off like 20 years ago maybe.
Okay Alexandra I’m sure you’ll find something funnier in the strip club where your future awaits cause you certainly aren’t gonna be anything more in life than a prostitute or a stripper if you’re not one already😂😂😂
Literally same thing applies to women 😂 they do stuff that men have invented, been perfecting and excelling for millennia and call themselves special and brave like wtf 😂
Cause he's already peaked in that department. The only dudes at his shows are those women's husbands or boyfriends. He wants a bigger audience and the only audience left to gain is single dudes 18-35. Since more people are talking about him than ever before seems like it's been a decent business move so far.
It is a back and forth play. He is an attractive man and women crave for him and his good looks, you see it very often when he is doing crowd work. Through his act he has that sweet bad boy persona wich the women find appealing. It is basically a flirt with those insult-compliments. And because he is hot it works. Someone like Louis C.K (despite his former actions) could never pull something like that
It’s just sad that he thinks the way to get a male audience is to blatantly disrespect women instead of just… oh I don’t know, write actually funny jokes for once? But apparently he wants to appeal to all the incels, divorcees and rednecks now
@@etothez9898 I don’t think women are all that interested in him anymore after that blunder. Also his ‘good looks’ are due to filler, you can see the difference clearly in his old pictures. But I bet he’s never gonna admit that and just chalk it up to losing weight. So essentially he wants an audience full of insecure women and misogynistic men?
No because he’s never been funny, how he got such a big comedy platform in the first place amazes me, especially when there are much better comedians out there who aren’t nearly as popular, Matt Rife is just lucky so many people thought he was attractive because otherwise he wouldn’t have had a career.
