I've been using the Decobob 80wt with Microtex needles for my quilt piecing for about a month. ****I love using this thread****. It is fine as frog hair, and it is very strong. I set it up successfully on my Bernina B530. I had to modify my upper and lower tensions. I was NOT initially able to get it to work on my 1946 Kenmore (White). I use a thread stand, and I think that is a must. I had trouble with nesting (terrible, horrible). I finally managed to get my bobbin and top tension perfect--and I'm glad as this is my favorite machine to piece on. I really love sewing with this thread. It is a wonderful performer...low lint, strong, less volume than 50wt. Seams lie flat. I have also used this to quilt with really good results. Use it on your binding to make your stitches less obvious. It also performs excellent for foundation piecing. I cannot say enough superlatives for this thread; and I'm glad that I stumbled upon it. On my Bernina, I found that if I'm winding the bobbin, I actually pass it through my fingers for extra tension to ensure a smooth wind. I have some Invisifil, but I've not used it yet.

Once you've tried DecoBob, it's hard to go back! Glad you were able to make it work on your favourite piecing machine. Every machine seems to be a little different so sometimes it takes a little adjusting to make a different thread work.

i love the 100 weight as it makes stitching in the ditch so easy and hides all the little mistakes. i have not tried the 80 weight yet. i really love these videos - they are so helpful.

can i use the 100 weight thread for foundation paper piecing and what should i put in the bobbin? what size machine needle?
@WonderFilThreads
@WonderFilThreads 2 года назад
While you can use the 100 weight thread for foundation paper piecing (and you can use the same thread in the bobbin), we usually recommend using the 80wt thread instead because it's just a little bit stronger than 100wt and can be relied on to hold your quilt pieces together. Specifically, look for DecoBob 80wt thread as this is made from polyester, which will allow the thread to retain its strength even at the 80wt size. You can use a size 80/12 machine needle, and if you're sewing with DecoBob, you can use the same thread in the bobbin.

I just bought a spool of deco-bob 80 weight and wound my own bobbin. I have a domestic singer 7440 (circa 2006) with only top tension adjustment and have reduced the tension as far as I can. I am using a quilting needle and the fabric still puckers up and seems to be too tight. The bobbin has no tension adjustment available. Any suggestions?
@WonderFilThreads
@WonderFilThreads 4 года назад
Hey there, this could be caused by a few different things. One issue could be that there might be something caught in your tension discs. This can happen if you use a lot of linty cotton thread, the lint will build up between the tension discs and then the discs don't properly squeeze the thread as it's going through your machine. Another issue could be the bobbin's tension changed over time and use, so you can try bringing it in to your machine dealer to have it readjusted to "factory standard", or try doing it yourself. All bobbins can be adjusted for tension, they just have a screw on them that needs to be turned. We also have a video on how to adjust your bobbin tension which can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5X1g8-FdLHU.html We hope this helps solve your problem!

@@WonderFilThreads Thanks for getting back to me. Before incurring the expense of a service to my machine, I decided to buy a different needle - a micro something-or-other, which seems to have done the trick! Apparently deco-bob didn't like my quilting needle.

Just bought 3 spools of invisifil and I'm having problems. ☻☺♥ what sort of tension do I need for using invisifil in the bobbin? I was embroidering with a 60 wt polyester thread on top and invisfil in the bobbin. I had to adjust my top thread tension to about a 2 to get the invisifil THREAD NOT show through in the top. However, now my top thread is showing through the bottom. Brought my embroidery machine to the shop and the person there said to never use the invisfil in the bobbin. I'm confused. According to the guy he said that because the invisfil was so thin that there was no tension whatsoever so the top thread was showing through. ( I'm confused I thought, if the bobbin had too much tension then the top thread would show up in the bottom, please clarify?) also the free standing lace you showed in 7:28 is that with decobob on top and invisifil in the bobbin? So for the red work on 7:59 did you use the invisfil both top and bottom? thx for your help ☻☺♥
@WonderFilThreads
@WonderFilThreads 3 года назад
Hey Vikki! We actually have someone from our team getting in touch with you regarding your InvisaFil tension problems. About the free standing lace at 7:28 we actually used DecoBob on both the top and bottom. We used a DecoBob pre-wound bobbin which offers a much better stitch consistency because it's wound completely even, which is most noticeable in machine embroidery. At 7:59 we also used DecoBob in the bobbin, however you CAN still use InvisaFil in the bobbin if you want to. Just be careful when you're winding the bobbin to slow down (if your machine allows you to) because the thread can be very light and fly away a little. You should also stop a little bit before the bobbin is completely full because it's easy to overwind your bobbin with this fine thread.

I have used 100 Invisafil in my 1946 Singer FW, mostly successfully, for stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, and piecing. I have to use a thread stand for the crosswound spools, and I do adjust my bobbin tension as well as thread tension. Sometimes for no apparent reason, the top thread will shred often; whereas other times in the same sewing session, I will sew for a long time with no shredding. I don't know why this is, but I do put up with it because I like the quality of piecing, and it's great for low-show quilting. I will try to get some 80 weight DecoBob next.
@WonderFilThreads
@WonderFilThreads 4 года назад
Hi Lexi, glad to hear you've been liking the InvisaFil. Regarding your shredding issue, are you using the small spools of 400m or the regular size cones wound with 2500m? Sometimes the small spools have a bump on the plastic that catches the thread as you sew, which can cause the shredding issue. Shredding can also be caused by a nick in the needle plate, or a needle that needs to be changed.

I had some trouble initially getting the Decobob to work in my 1946 Kenmore (White). That machine is my absolute favorite piecing machine. I had to tighten the tension for the top thread and for the bobbin. Though it took some experimenting. I use Microtex needles. I hope you got and are loving the Decobob. It is a perfect piecing thread.

This is Mary, not Tim. I tried using Invisifil for both the bobbin and top thread. The first row of stitching was perfect. My needle, a brand new 70/10, broke with the second row. I rethreaded the machine and replaced that needle with a brand new 80/12 and, after about 20 stitches it also broke. I went back to my 50 weight thread after that. I will try some of the tips suggested here, such as using a single stitch plate, a shorter stitch length, 80 weight thread in the bobbin and a Microtex needle. Any other thoughts as to why my brand new needles broke or possible solutions?
@WonderFilThreads
@WonderFilThreads 3 года назад
Hi Mary, that's a very strange situation. Usually the threads are designed to break before the needle will. While they're strong, the needle should still be stronger than the thread. Did you continue having needle breakage problems after you switched back to using the 50wt thread? Also what were you using in the bobbin with the InvisaFil?
@timothymeins3598
@timothymeins3598 3 года назад
@@WonderFilThreads My needle problems were over when I switched back to 50 weight thread. I suspect the problem may have a been from the thread getting caught on my horizontal spool holder, so I purchased a cone thread holder for those tiny spools and used 80 weight thread in the bobbin. I also switched to the recommended 70/10 sharps needle. That solved the needle problem, but now I have had issues with the 100 weight thread unraveling while stitching and then it breaks. I tried adjusting the tension and stitch length but that did not remedy the problem. I am wondering if backstitching is something I should avoid when using this thread. Thoughts? Other than that, I do like many other aspects of this thread and will continue to use use it despite the problems.
@WonderFilThreads

@@timothymeins3598 Are you using the 400m/437yd mini spools? If so, these mini spools sometimes end up with a rough edge from when they are manufactured. Try running your finger along the edges of the top and bottom to feel for any roughness. These can be filed away with some sandpaper or a nail file so that the thread doesn't catch and break around those rough edges. If that doesn't solve your breaking problem or if you're using the 2500m/2734yd cones, then please send a photo of the breaking spool in an email to marketing@wonderfil.net and let us know you're Mary from our RU-vid video. We can get your spool replaced for you. DecoBob in the bobbin and the needle you're using are both correct and you should be able to backstitch with this thread without a problem. A lot of people will even sew back and forth with InvisaFil on their longarm machine successfully. So it sounds like the problem might be with your spool in particular.
