What a freaking incredible episode of television it was. I swear when I first watched it, I was halfway convinced that it was some weird ploy/power tactic by Logan until it became clear that, nope. It's real.

She's so fantastic. I also thought this was a hell of an episode for Matthew Mcfadyen. He played it about as well as you could hope. I also love the little detail that literally the only person to ask Tom, who is in the middle of trying to hold everything together, how he's doing is Greg. Because of course it's only Greg who actually cares about Tom. (I know the Roy siblings don't need to be worried about Tom's feelings in that moment, since obviously, it's THEIR dad... but I appreciate it that Greg cared enough to ask.)

She is so good..i think of Ken as the main character as he was the first person we saw in the first episode and they are all great but her acting is phenomenal..especially in this episode..u really believe this is happening to her...pity show wasnt 5 or 6 Seasons but i get it...

Not sure how sensible it is to support them but who gives a shit. All of them stayed there and talked to Logan and didn't realise that they should call Connor also. Nobody actually came to his marriage. It's fine Connor and Willa made their own world cuz unfairness did its part in Connor's life for a long time.

The irony is if Shiv picked up the first time Tom called all 4 of them would’ve been present and Logan might’ve still been a little bit more “there” if at all.

This is a “where were you?” moment in history of television. It’s been almost a year and I still remember with detail every feeling, every thought, as the episode was airing. I’ve never seen any piece of media handle death as good as Succession did. And I don’t think I will. I remember having to pause it right after the call ended because my sister came in the living room to do something and I had to do the longest poker face of my life because I didn’t want to ruin this special moment for her.

I watched it the morning after it aired with no idea what was coming, and the episode completely broke me, I couldn't stop crying. Then I had to go to WORK and try and pretend like nothing was wrong. Safe to say I don't think I got any actual work done that day.

your discussion at the end was so lovely and honest, thanks for sharing it. also, i think for roman, going to see the body was something he felt was necessary because he'd been so strongly in denial, but i absolutely believe that it must be a horrible thing to actually witness. it's also interesting to think about how their reactions match up exactly to how they were after he had the brain hemorrhage right at the start of the show: kendall desperate to take control (s1: asking 'is this the best part of the hospital', s4: asking for 'plane medicine experts' whatever those are), shiv wanting to stop the spread of info like she's trying to delay having to properly acknowledge it (she asks in s1 if they can just Not announce that he's in hospital and in s4 she wants the plane to just keep circling until she's ready), and roman in total denial (in s1 kendall says something like 'if he dies-' and roman immediately cuts over to say 'he *won't* die').

I hear shiv asking “is he even alive?” and think back to s2 e1 “is this real?” when Logan is fake-offering her CEO. The way her upbringing has molded her to refuse to be vulnerable and made her so implausible to love results in her actions this episode and it’s so good

The portrayal of logan's death felt so surreal but so relatable. It accurately depicts the vulnerability of human life and how the acknowledgment of death hits you like a truck. I was having breakfast with my grandfather the previous morning and then I received a call from my uncle at 3am announcing that he passed. The news hit me so hard I didn't know how to react and then the next thing was me just standing beside his lifeless body at the hospital. It sucks.

I'm so thankful that I watched this live as it was airing because there was so much collective shock. With it being the last season, I would start every episode saying Logan is dying soon yet when this one came it was so shocking. It was such a realistic portrayal of how it happens. Reminds me of Tywin Lannister's death episode on Father's Day in 2014. Logan's death episode was Easter 2023. Both died in "undignified" ways.

I enjoy The Sopranos for its scale, the Wire for its ambition and Mad Men for its energy but Succession is my favorite written series of all time. There isn’t a poorly cast character in the entire run of the show and the writing absolutely soars for so much of it. To build a world around these monsters and pull this episode off is nothing short of a TV writing miracle.

Such a phenomenal episode that is such a rollercoaster of emotions. I legitimately was convinced it was all a convoluted trick from Logan but the fact that this felt so realistic and out of nowhere is such a testament to how good this show is as tradegy often hits at the most inconvenient and unconventional moments for us all as Ive lost a lot of members of my family in lifetime such as both my grandparents and I was crushed when I heard the news from my parents who were suffering themselves including my father who I had to support as he lost both his parents and me, my mum and my brother did everything we cpuld to comfort him through such a difficult loss as we too had to process everything. At the end of it, all we truly want is our final words with our loved ones are worth it. Seeing all the characters reaction to Logan's death and the level of denial, sadness, fear and desperation from all of them is truly authentic and I actually believe the actors had no idea that Logan was set to die so filming this episode which really sold the emotional performances.
@siphillis
@siphillis 6 месяцев назад
The ending sums up the entire show. Even when they’re drawn together in the face of death, they can’t help but become separated again; Connor is at his wedding alone, Shiv rides off silently with Tom, Roman goes to view the body, and Kendall stands back in terror of the reality that’s setting in. “Succession” is ultimately about how people are so terrible at communicating trauma and grief to one another.

I think Roman not being able to tell his dad he loves him (he does, absolutely love his father) is because when he said it in season 3 finale, Logan shut that down. "You come to me with love?" and so now he tries to tell Logan what he feels logan would accept/want to hear. "You always win" "You did a good job"

Not even a year since this episode aired but I feel like it already occupies a place in the holy altar of television. One of the greatest tv show episodes ever. And to know they shot that whole 20 minutes section (between Roman picking up the call from Tom to Kendall talking with Frank usptairs) uncut and non stop and most of it just went straight into the episode is mind-blowing. Such a gigantic display of technical and acting excellence.

Losing someone is always surreal, had a family member I had a complicated relationship with pass and I wanted to see them. I felt a lot like Ken and Conner, this person who had been in my life so long and caused so much pain and my biggest regret was holding that against them and never resolving that. Seeing them, personally it felt comforting, I saw them and it had a sense of finality to it, the thing that made them that person was gone, what made them, them, is just not there. Just a shell and they’re gone, I don’t know I’m weird but it felt like they finished a race and I was there to congratulate them.

I was at home when my father died. He was home in hospice care because of cancer. It's a surreal thing. I also saw them take his body out in a body bag, so I know the feeling, Jaby. They took him out of the bedroom, down the stairs, and out the front door, almost like he was a bag of trash. It definitely is not something that is easy to see, but I know my mother couldn't handle seeing it, and I wanted to make sure they treated him as respectfully as possible.

Agree with Jaby about sometimes being wired differently than other family members. People expect family to be this idyllic, redeemable image most of the time but it can be a source of pain, insecurity, or general discontent in many ways too. Having every single health problem before be such a HUGE thing on screen, then having him suddenly pass off screen with no warning at all was SO real. I dont know how people can look at someone after there dead..i just cant do it. i agree Jaby..after seeing some people in coffins as a kid it scarred me..i couldnt do it as an adult..Achara i agree bout Con..im always saying wheres Con..what about Con...it always feels like he is on the outside because he is not involved in the business which is a major part of Logans kids identity..I think thats the reason he is always their last thought...
