Totally agree with you on this. My brother raised dozens of reptiles growing up and I just had a couple and by far and away my Plated Lizard was the most docile, heartiest, well-behaved pet I've ever owned.

Neither of mine have ever hissed or peed on me. When picking them up, they are much calmer if you lay them across your forearm. Otherwise, they do whip and try to get away. But mine will perch on my shoulder (or sit in my hoodie and flicker their tongues on the back on my neck lol) while I do things around the house. If I'd let them, they'd sit on top of my head too. Amazing lizards!

I love my Sudan Plated Lizard. He loves to sit near my neck where its warmest. They like nose and chin rubs. He leans into it and closes his eyes. Very very cute pet. I highly recommend cabbage and bok choy (his favorite) also he doesn't seem to like crickets / grasshoppers but loves mealworms!
@richyrich6099

I just saw one at a local Petco (cricket shopping, not reptile shopping, rest assured) and I was so mesmerized by it. It looked so intelligent and personable. But then I became sorta sad, knowing he's likely a wild caught individual and he was in one of those small spaces they normally keep baby leopard geckos inside. First time I felt compelled to "save" a pet from a petstore.

From what I could see, great tattoos! (Right forearm) Nice colours! Are they fairly new still or you just stay outta the sun? Anywhoodles.. back to learning about lizards! The video may not be about comparing Beardies with these plated lizards, but it helps me, I have a beardie and am looking to adopt something else, doing my research, I appreciate how they compare to beardies cause that’s what I know Ok so they’re not cuddle buddies like my beardie is... @isaacoesterling8962

Hey there! So I’m a new plated lizard owner, I’ve got his whole tank set up with the right temperature and humidity, but it’s been about 4 days and he’s very very still he doesn’t move much he hasn’t eaten much, and I got him from petco wildcaught and has definitely seen some trauma. I’ve read and heard that it’s okay for about a week for them to be a little immobile and refuse to eat while they first get moved somewhere but I just wanna know if there’s anything I need to do to help! Yours seems so active and skiddish and I just want mine to be happy!! He’s cool being held he’s just very tense
@WickensWickedReptiles

keep an eye on him, sometimes it takes a week or better for them to normalize.

Also, she used to come out sometimes when I would feed her (she'd made a lot of progress since I got her, she used to be so terrified she'd never come out)...now she doesn't come out anymore and is barely eating. Do you think it's due to the change in weather (we're getting colder now) - does this species hibernate/brumate?

Can they be co habitated?
@DrunkAnteosaurus
@DrunkAnteosaurus 4 года назад
Is it okay to co-habit one with another species of lizard with similar requirements (like a beardie)? I got mine about a year ago and he co-habits with my six year old bearded dragon. They are perfectly fine together (never have hurt each other and eat separately), but I want to get your opinion on this :D They are both the same size (My plated, Kye, just about an inch shorter). I'm planning on getting him a separate cage so he has more room to explore, do you think it would be a good idea?
@WickensWickedReptiles
@WickensWickedReptiles 4 года назад
this is tough to say, I've seen Beardies and Chuckwallas do well together but you're going to get a lot of flack on the internet about cohabbing species.

You've probably heard this question a ton, but do you have any advice on why my ball python isn't eating? I know there's a lot of reasons to why they don't eat but from your experiences with pet ball pythons I thought you'd know best.
@WickensWickedReptiles
@WickensWickedReptiles 4 года назад
good question, There is a huge list of things you can try. Have you checked out the video I did a few months back about this subject?
@atroxarmy7239
@atroxarmy7239 4 года назад
goblinballs try live feeding or try getting a normal Python Regius. I promise a normal will feed much easier than a crazy mutated snake I’ve tried and tried telling these breeders that these snakes are INBRED. Just get a normal Python Regius (Ball Python) and guarantee it feeds better digests better sheds easier and is much healthier. These snakes are gorgeous amazing animals yeah but at the end of the day their inbred mutations bro normal Ball be happy with what Mother Nature gave us.
@fuitgumy3108
@fuitgumy3108 4 года назад
@@atroxarmy7239 Eh, live feedings would probably be a last resort. Feeding live is inhumane for the mouse/rat and is pretty expensive to constantly buy live mice. And I wouldn't want to risk my snake getting injured. Ball pythons are know to go on hunger strikes for no apparent reason, and it's probably not a big deal. He's not really losing any weight at the moment, so I think he'll be fine. Thanks for the tips tho!
@atroxarmy7239
@atroxarmy7239 4 года назад
goblinballs yeah no problem thanks for not listening...when did people such as yourself start thinking y’all be part of this life? You know what a Crotalus Atrox is? Catenatus Tergeminus? Contortrix Laticinctus? Crotalus adamanteus? Lampropeltis Holdbrooki? Pantherophis obsoletus? You don’t know what your talking about your just saying things based off what you’ve heard from these high end breeders that just want to make a buck off you! Have fun man I’m done trying with you new people in this community. inhumane? Who told you that bs you know how many blood vessels and nerves a snake just pops the mice don’t feel hardly a thing bro but smacking em against a hard surface and freezing em is perfectly fine huh?
@fuitgumy3108
@fuitgumy3108 4 года назад
@@atroxarmy7239 I think you mean lampropeltis holbrooki* and you're the reason the reptile community is frowned upon, you're ruining the experience for beginner snake owners. What I said was factual and true, you're talking nonsense. I've done months of research before I bought my first snake, and where I'm getting my information is a reliable source, almost everyone I've talked to about this says you should never feed a live mouse to your snake. AND FEEDING LIVE MICE IS ILLEGAL WHERE I'M FROM, so it isn't really an option. And like I said There's a chance the live mouse will injure my snake.
