The current episode explores Sufism, Sufi saints, and their significance not only in the Kashmir Valley but also across different parts of India. Throughout the country, Sufi saints have preached peace and brotherhood. One such revered shrine is that of Hazrat Khawaja Banda Nawaz in Kalaburagi city, Karnataka. India has a rich history in Sufism, which began around 1000 years ago. Many Sufi saints from around the world settled in India, spreading messages of peace and harmony. The 619th Urs (death anniversary) of Hazrat Khawaja Banda Nawaz at his shrine in Kalaburagi was attended by people from various religious communities. The shrine was adorned with glittering lights, evoking a sense of magic and mysticism. It attracted a multitude of devotees from diverse backgrounds and religions who sought blessings and fulfillment of wishes. Devotees from various districts across Karnataka attended the three-day event, symbolizing unity and brotherhood. A ceremonial procession, known as Sandal Shareef, began from Badi Masjid in Mominpura and proceeded to the Dargah premises after prayers. Also referred to as Banda Nawaz Gaisu Nawaz, the saint was a disciple and successor of Sufi Saint Nasiruddin Chiragh Dehlavi. He is renowned for spreading the message of peace and brotherhood among his followers. Events like Urs celebrations clearly highlight that the teachings of humanity and compassion propagated by Sufi saints continue to resonate deeply within Indian culture. Devotees from various districts in Karnataka and neighboring states participated in the sandal procession to commemorate the inaugural function. Sufi saints like Hazrat Khawaja Banda Nawaz in Kalaburagi have promoted spiritualism and harmony in our country, with their teachings playing a significant role in strengthening India's secular fabric.
