@DaveTaste I really hate these stupid "this song/group is so underrated/unappreciated" comments. 2002, Sugababes were one of the biggest groups in the world at the time. This song was no. 1 in the UK, and many other countries, and reached the top 10 in a load more. Its certified as a Gold record, it was their biggest selling single until Push the Button. Just because some people haven't heard of them or have just discovered them, that doesn't mean they weren't well known or underrated.
You can tell this is a Sugababes song, even without recognizing the voices. Music that's made to be commercial can easily fall into the trap of being cowardly. The melodies and the whole sound is actually really creative.
@@pt4005 The word you're looking for is Sample. There's actually 4 different pieces of music that make up the backing to this track and the Tango Forte sample is the Chorus with the verses not coming from Tango Forte.
However the voices played a very important role in making this a Sugababes-esque song. Mutya and Keisha' s voices in particular. Mutya is in the lead obviously, she's the one with this peculiar husky unique tone that gave them an edgy sound. No wonder why she's all over the chorus as well. She's the heart and soul of the Babes, Keisha too.
Nobody does pop like the Brits! My god for a small nation they're impact is just incredible. Art, music, inventions, other nations like the US, Canada, Australia... incredible and then we have the Sugababes... Bananarama, Beatles, Adele, Culture Club, Queen, George Michael, The Stones, The Who, jesus christ it just goes on and on 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Back in the days when pop music was all about properly crafted rhythms, scene setting, layered melodies, with catchy hooks, great vocal interaction and plenty of polished production to make songs sound unique, compared to todays over singing vocal gymnastics, with hollow, generic sounding beats and an instrument/sample or two thrown on top, if you're lucky.
This song is still quite simple - chorus is unisono and only one drum pattern is repeated in a natural and a synthetic form. However, the natural snare sounds very pretty, unlike common synthetic or overprocessed snares. Is it piccolo or some maple? If you wanna hear good rhythms, go for 60s, I think that it is the classic era of drums, 80s became a parody in this regard.
@@StreamHypeBoyByNewJeans I like this song, I just countered a notion that it is complex. I like the sound of the snare and also the overall mix which is well balanced with drums as loud as I like.
@@andrewmark2783 Left Eye was definitely the Queen of the quirky hairstyles. I definitely see the inspiration but Mutya also managed to create a quite original hairstyle. It's so unique.
I've been looking for this song for about 22 years!!! In 2002, I heard this song from MTv radio on my uncle's car. At that time, i couldn't speak or understand English at all. In 2010, I hummed on Shazam to search for this song, but I couldn't find it. Until today, I saw a video from tiktok about Google that has an "identify song" feature, just by humming the tones. And eureka!! I found this childhood song😭😭😭😭
Whoever directed this was amazing. So creative, I love when the bass player sails off. Great song making zero sense with a breakthrough video. Awesome moves, dancing, everything original. Australia still plays this everyday.
Yeah i agree its so nostalgic and grungey and haunting it just represents the 2002 year for me, i remember everyone walking around in these sorts of outfits!
Best song of Sugababes - look from 2:33 - it is the most emotional thing I've ever seen in any song & just watch her face when she moves - Absolutely unforgettable!
Round, round baby round, round Spinning out on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free And we'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody got my honeys When I go round, baby round round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free (Free free free free) When you stare at my face You're messing with my brain If you're try to convince me Then you better think again If you move to my music The music's got to give If it's too complicated That's the way I want to live If you hate me I will show you How to break me Into something new If you want me Run away now If you stop me Then I'll hit the ground (And we go, and we go) Round, round baby round, round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free And we'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody got my honeys When I go Explanations, no you don't need one Having a good time Getting down to the fun And it's your time Just tonight he'll be mine And he's gone Yeah People moving, bodies grooving Never ending Players are changing (Don't you worry 'bout a thing all you need is one fierce string) All my girls are here with me Worry now they've got their need (Do you feel me, do you feel me, do you feel me, do you feel me) Woo Round, round baby round, round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free We'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody got my honeys When I go round baby round round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free And we'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody but my honeys When I go Ooh Does it hurt, when you see How I've done Without you Thought that I couldn't belong Never thought that you could be so cruel All you need is some friends Won't be by yourself Let's go round and round and round and round and are-o-you-nd Round, round baby round, round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free We'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody got my honeys When I go round baby round round Spend the night on me I don't need no man Got my kicks for free We'll ride still fired on the beat down low I don't need nobody but my honeys When I go Round, baby when I go When I go (When I go) When I go (When I go) When I go When I go round baby (When I go) When I go (When I go) When I go (When I go) When I go When I go
Am the drummer on this video! ❤ walking home from a pub crawl just decided to...you know 😊 when the sugar babies company called my collage, then BIMM was in Acton Vale, Now in Fulham. I was the only Black Girl then in the whole collage that represented what they wanted. It was glorious!
This reminds me of a time when going to Primary school parties were the biggest highlights of our little lives. "The adolescents of my generation, greedy for life, forgot in body and soul about their hopes for the future until reality taught them that tomorrow was not what they had dreamed, and they discovered nostalgia." - Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Can we please appreciate how hard the bridge drops? It fascinates me how much it differs from the rest of the song, still fits so well. Absolute banger of a song
I was only 3 when this came out and can actually still remember dancing to this in front of my big block TV ... those TVs we all had before flat screens LOL, memories :')
Lol I was 24, that makes me feel like some kind of dinosaur. You young ones sure make us feel like we are about 75 years old when we read things like this.....you did make me laugh
I just watched their concert and these girls are still fire. Was a shame not to see Heidi but siobhan certainly slotted back in well. So pleased for them to have won the rights to the Sugababes name. Go and get the Lost tapes so these girls keep making music 🔥
This song is still amazing and for some reason all the UK radio stations are playing Sugababes. Thank you Keisha, Heidi and Mutya (and to a lesser extent Amelle) to your contribution to British pop music. 2002 - 2009 were great years. its funny cos Girls Aloud were also big around this time too.
Amazing! Brought back so many memories. These were the days when people put effort into making music videos. The Sugababes were just the right mix of pop and substance. 👏👏👏
@@iamskybound Yea but I think it could have cracked the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 easily if it had proper distribution in the mainstream. Anyway, maybe better most Americans don't know it. Makes it more unique.
Whaaaaat?!?!? 😲 This whole time I thought it was “Spend the night on me” as well!!!!! It was only until I saw your comment that I realise that they were actually saying a clever spin on “Round Round” with that lyric! 😭
Sugababes, you really are very remarkable despite the flops you experience at some point in time. Your catchy songs and upbeat tunes truly make the day awesome. Thanks and more power to you.
I grew up listening to the Sugababes as a kid, they were a great Girl Band for their time with 6 UK No. 1 singles on their belt including ‘Round Round’ which has always been my favourite. Even though they had a number of lineup changes.

Underrated?? 😂 It was a number 1 single all over the world and certified as a Gold record. It was their biggest selling record until Push the Button. Absolutely NOT underrated by anyone.
I love Keisha. She's my favourite member of the sugababes, she's so beautiful, such a good singer, talented, brilliant, amazing and I'm a massive fan of her.
Absolutely agreed. Her voice is so stunning and soulful and beautiful. I honestly thought when I was growing up, she was the best part of the sugababes and made the sugababes wonderful and magnificent.
Freak like Me + Round round + Hole in the head are what made the Sugababes 2.0 iconic. Watch those music videos, they gave attitude and looked badass like you would never mess around with them. Their different vocals complimented each other. Mutya had the husky voice, Keisha’s was very soulful and Heidi provided the sweet-pop effect.
this song just radiates so much of the early 2000s feeling. the had 90ies just ended. and we plunged into the 2000s with this awesome song. it was so well timed, it will never age.
loved my life when the sound sugababes were around! early 2000s spot on ;) Kiesha love her for trying so hard to keep the band together. Mutya was my crush lol and heidi was such a perfect addition to the group. Freak, Round, stronger, lost, about you and shape my fav songs xxx sugababes if you read this IIII LOVEEEE YOUUUUUUUU!!! :* :* :*
I can't recall ever hearing this band back in the day. Why is that? They're pretty good. I'm in the USA and I see they're British, but still, much British music is popular here.
Born 82, grown up with MTV when they were superb! 🤦🏻♀️😅 with britpop alternative etc, was reminiscing George M and then went to All Saint black coffee .. Dank I miss all about the 90s and 00s 😍❤
