Sugar addiction is a serious problem. It prevents millions of people from moving towards their health and happiness goals. Big-food and big-pharma would love for you to believe there is no such thing as sugar addiction. But, after watching this video, you will see sugar addiction in yourself, or a loved one.
Improving your diet is the foundation of improving health. But, it is impossible to do if you are addicted to foods full of sugar. Sugar addiction makes you eat sweets & chips & breads & pasta, and drink soft drinks & fruit juices & fruit smoothies. All of these foods break down into the same sugars, and stimulate dopamine release in the pleasure-centers of your brain.
Sugar addiction is important to recognize and important to break if you are ever to enjoy the good health you crave.

@@nathanwoodruff9422 Have you tried to stop eating sugar and see what might happen ? Many of the ill effects of sugar are not seen or felt for many years. The build up of visceral fat (fat around/inside vital organs) and the damage on blood vessels are only manifested when damaged has already occurred (heart attacks, sight impairment, hypertension, kidney failure) . Hence why diabetes if poorly control (persistent high sugar levels in blood) is sometimes call the silent killer.

Back in my early 30s, so 30 some odd years ago, I started drinking those MUGS of Mt. Dew. At least one a day! It was my go to energy source. I worked hard raising a large family and loved yard work, gardening, landscaping etc. Little did I know then, it would backfire on me with extreme Hyper-insulinism, excessive weightgain and very poor health. The bromelain alone almost destroyed my thyroid gland. I think these soft drinks are a tool of Satan to slowly destroy us. Sugar and really everything we shove into our mouths done in excess, is poison to our bodies. Thankfully there are good Docs like Dr. Berry to teach us a way out. God bless you sir. ♡♡♡ I started listening to your videos back in 10/18. Started KWOE, IF, now OMAD. My body is shedding the unhealthy fat and all markers are improving. I pray I'll reach my goals in 2019. Good luck to everyone on this journey.

My two grandmothers were Victorian and Edwardian ladies living in the North East of England - they both knew that bread, biscuits, cakes and chocolate made you fat and were to be eaten as rare treats - to stay lean you ate meat and two veg and never eat late at night - both lived into their 90’s and were slim and healthy right up to the last two weeks of their lives. Why have we forgotten what they took for granted as common knowledge?

I'm from NW England and this is so so true. My great grandparents would never have dreamed of trimming the fat off meat or wasting the lard or dripping and they certainly never drank sugar like fruit juice or soft drinks. Yet by the time I was born in the 1980s I was being raised on this crappy 'healthy' low fat high carb diet. @carolv676
@carolv676 2 года назад
@@Peachy10236 I grew up in a home where we were directly taught that white bread was food for the ducks. We lived close to a lake and fed the ducks white bread. My mother sought out every health food store and local vendor of things such as goat’s milk. At best we had lemon or orange Gatorade, never Pepsi nor Coke. Oh, that reminds me that we did have ginseng soda. Not a great substitute but close enough. When I was a teen, I practically lived at my friend’s house one summer and I literally ate half a bag of Wonder Bread by sliding out a few pieces, mashed up in my sugar loving fist, and scarfed it down in the restroom right off of her kitchen. With the increased independence that came with hanging out with her, the proximity of a convenience store in walking distance, and a few bucks from my mom, I sure enough used that money to satisfy my sugar addiction, buying French onion dip and Ruffles, soda and cookies and candy. I’m not saying don’t try to keep your kids from sugar. Just keep my experience in mind. I grew up surrounded by the best possible foods and mindset. Looking back, I think the pattern was I turned to food when I was in emotional pain. My dad died when I was six and I still remember marveling at my bad choices a year or two later, age 7-11, going to the fridge to get a tub of margarine, a butter knife, and a sleeve of saltines to eat in my room while reading a book; 😂 we didn’t have cookies, chips, nor ice cream in the house so that was the closest thing. I can’t blame my mom. She did her very best to train us to eat properly. It’s the world. You can’t avoid these things. Your kids will eventually get introduced to something sweet or starchy or comfortingly carby and depending on a kid’s emotional issues and physiology or whatever other issues affect one’s propensity toward sugar addiction, that kid will have to walk a hard road until they’re finally sick and tired of being sick and tired. That is me at age 54. Just know you did your best and that kid’s addiction or lack thereof is not necessarily all under your control.

I am a recovering sugar addict. I never had a problem with breads, chips, pasta etc, it was always the sweet stuff. I hid candy, cookies, cupcakes, stole candy from my kids at Halloween, I would go to a cupcake place and pay cash just in case my husband looked at our account online. I totally had the obsessive thoughts about sugar, thinking about getting my next fix. By the grace of God I never weighed 300lbs. I’ve gone cold turkey off of sweets a few times and every time I did, for the first couple days I would break out in a cold sweat a few times each day and would get dizzy, and I also had horrible headaches for about 4-5 days. I did keto for a few months but still struggled with my sugar addiction, it wasn’t until I went carnivore that my obsessive thoughts about sugar went away. I certainly don’t struggle with it now like I used to, however now, if I eat something sweet, even just a bite, my brain freaks out and wants to eat the whole container of whatever sweets I just ate. The struggle and the addiction to sugar is so real!!

I have had some setbacks and probably got a years worth of sugar in carbs and refined sugars in each cheat day as I am also a compulsive binge eater. The instant I eat bread, pasta, icecream, cake etc. I become a compulsive eating machine. Loved this video and I believe it is very helpful. Getting over my sugar addiction was/is super hard. I would feel extremely hungry, shaky and desperate for food. Rather than give in to my sweet cravings, I would shove a slice of turkey and cheese into my mouth, or eat some steak, or eggs. I was having to eat sooooo often to keep the feeling of starvation down, and to keep myself from feeling like I was starving, but within a week or so, that starts to go away. Suddenly I'm able to fast for 20h a day and feel great, sleep like a baby, have a ton of energy, never think of sweets, or very rarely and not crave them, even thinking about them would make me feel sick. During the worst of it, I would definitely hide sweets, or eat them quickly before anyone else came home, or go to the drugstore for a few things I needed and come out with a pile of sweets I swear I don't even remember picking up. People laugh when I tell them I have a problem with it. They literally laugh in my face. Few people think this is an actual problem because it's "socially acceptable", unlike doing a big line of cocaine at work, or something. I struggle to keep it going for long periods of time, though. I will do well or a month or two and then I find myself making an excuse to eat it. Oh my coworkers baked something or oooh this thing I love is on sale for so cheap. I had a rough week and weekend and have spent the day back at square one feeling like crap, feeling starving, constantly shoving healthy snacks into my mouth to distract myself and kicking myself for ruining the excellent streak I was on. I think part of that comes from seeing the lbs melt away when I first stop and after a few weeks, or a month or so, it plateaus and my mind automatically thinks - Well if I'm eating healthy and exercising but no more weight is coming off, I may as well eat whatever I want. I need to work on that but since no one thinks it's a thing, it's very hard to find support when you're struggling. Drugs and alcohol, even shopping, no problem, there are a million rehab facilities and programs designed to help. Sugar - You're on your own

Withdrawal symptoms start at 10:00. Dealing with a sugar addiction starts at 12:00. Step 1: Know you have an addiction, know how much sugar and carbs foods have Step 2: Stay full, ie satiated on protein and healthy fats. Eat a LCHF or keto or carnivore diet. Step 3: Do things that stimulate dopamine production in your brain. Run, sex, walk, hug Step 4: Clean out your kitchen. Get rid of all the sweets and high or processed carbs. Even milk. Step 5: Admit you are a sugar addict to others. Get them to help, don't bring me pie, cake, etc. Step 6: Make a plan to cut your sugar consumption. Do better today than you did yesterday. Step 7: Get plenty of sun and sleep. Step 8: Deal with other addictions too - smoking, alcohol, etc.

Hi! My name is Janice and I am a sugar addict! I got control of it by cutting out large groups of no-no foods at a time. Like anything with white flour in it, was thrown out and not brought back into the house. I didn't know what I was doing. I just knew that the more I tried to lose weight, the more I gained. I knew white flour was bad. The thing was, I didn't substitute the thrown out stuff with a bread made out of something "healthier" than white flour. Doing that stopped the weight increase and I saw a little decrease in weight. It did take about a month to get a grip on not having white flour. Then I gave up my soda pop, Pepsi, Sprite, whatever you want to call it. It was always "diet" "zero calorie" but I knew I was addicted to it so out that went and I lost more weight. Then I tackled fruits and veggies, condiments. I got better educated by these videos and other information and ended up losing 100 pounds, 12 more to go. I also quit smoking 6 years ago. I know I get easily addicted to just about anything so I'm taking better care of myself.

I am 100% an addict. I used to pride myself on the fact that I have no addictions (smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc.) That went out the window in the recent past when I recognized my inability to forgo the chips, pasta, and candy (and rice, and potatoes, and corn, and beans, and...). Even now, being keto for months, I still cling to having 'keto breaks' scheduled out into the future to get past the weak moments. Testing helps me. It takes DAYS to get back to the numbers I want after just one cheat. It's frustrating. So when I feel myself wanting to give in, I pull up that feeling of frustration as a deterrent.

"It may not be your fault, but it IS your problem"~ seriously strong statement. Also, a statement that helps folks narrow it down to personal responsibility- which is always a good thing, because it also gives back control, & who doesn't want to be in control? =) We realize it's for each of us to tackle our problems, w/ proper supports & tools, & we then get to enjoy the 'rewards' that come with having overcome said problem. It's awesome. *Also, super important to remind people that "ALL CARBS end up as sugar forms". Really appreciate this being emphasized.

I haven't been in ketosis yet, but I certainly feel better when I haven't had carbs in a day or two. I don't feel bloated and tired until I cave to the carbs. That, however, is what I use to avoid eating them. It's how I stopped drinkin a couple years ago. It's how I stopped smoking about 3 weeks ago. I understand that those things will make me feel like crap and I avoid them. Garbage in, garbage out. It bears repeating. I survived my teenage years by self-medicating on sugar in any form; the sweeter the better. I would "drink" pancake syrup, or honey, or eat frosting out of the little round tubs plain, with no cake or anything to put it on. It didn't make me hyper, or happy, or tired; it just nunbed me to all the bad stuff in my life. Now, I eat one square of dark chocolate (80% cacao or more) a day, and maybe some Halo (high protein) ice cream once or twice a week, and that's it. Premium Protein shakes have also been a blessing. 30 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. Everyone is different. Find what works for you. Never give up. Keep trying. Every day is a fresh start. If you can't cut out fruit, at least eat it and get the fiber, don't just drink it!!! Good Luck fellow sugar addicts! 😎👍

George , yes, I did the same, but had to do it for 2 1/2 days. Day 1:. Eat keto or carnivore breakfast and keto or carnivore lunch. After lunch, drink only water and green tea with unrefined stevia. Instead of eating supper, go to bed early and sleep through the worst of the hunger. Days 2 and 3: only drink green tea with unrefined stevia and drink water. Day 4: From hence forth, eat keto or carnivore.

I just spoke to one of my husband's patients, about his wife; and I gave him your name to look up. He surprised me by telling me that his wife has an appointment with you. She has had it for three months now. Awesome! I told him I was jealous! I'm an RN, my husband is an osteopathic family physician; I am a walking example that the Keto way of life works, and I tell anyone who wants to know about it; yes, in his office. Patients comment about my success, and my husband is proud of me. My husband has cut carbs, he never was a sugar addict, and he is at a healthy weight, but he's still mostly old school. - Rose

Completing a year of keto and cutting out the sugar was a big deal now on a carnivore lifestyle and continuing to fixing the years of damage that all the things in life that caused the damage and moving forward to feeling the best that I've ever felt in my life. These videos are priceless to help everyone get a real understanding of what is really going on inside things you can't physicaly see with your eyes.

Thank you Dr. Berry! I was a sugar addict (and probably still am), went keto and bam! No more cravings. That helped my A LOT while losing 45kg. Dr. Berry, would you please do *a video about keto diet and parkinson's disease* ? I hear it is very useful indeed, and I was hoping to have your point of view on that!

I believe my addiction to something sweet is real. I can live one day without playing games but not one day without any sweets. I feel weak in the mid day so I consumes something sweet(bread, cakes, candy(sometimes), pancakes) that really enlighten my mood and give me energy. I limit my drinks per day though. My partner likes to drink coffee, one serving is like 4 full teaspoon of sugars. Imagine that sometimes he drinks coffee 2 to 3 times. OMG. Can you create a video on overly sugar intake?

Same here... i hardly ever eat bread, but when I do I realize it just tastes like dry cardboard and does not feel good for my stomach. Been on low carb now or almost 5 years and loving it! Feel great, bloodwork is great.. weight is perfect.

@@flexairz I just started April 10, 2019. I've lost 25 lbs...down to 235 lbs. Need to get to 176 according to my BMI...I'm loving the bacon and eggs, meat, hard cheese, limited fruit and veggies. I cut out the bread, pasta, rice, and soda...I'm melting away. Dr Berry says that by intermittent fasting my loose skin should somewhat go away eventually. Looking foward to it.

@@z570786 Wow! I dropped a bunch the first month too. Took me just 4 months to lose 50. Now I have been maintaining with keto for 5 months. It is easier for guys than gals. But my sweet wife started a month after me and just hit her goal weight and lost 70 pounds. Neither one of us had much success before. But this sugar issue is the single toughest thing. Dr. Barry really hit it on the head. I feel many of us could use a 12-step Sugar Anonymous group.

@@MrDavidknigge You are absolutely right. I used to snack on sweet snacks right befor bed. That is the hardest thing to overcome. I eat a piece of bacon right befor bed if I have too. I have been cooking 2 lbs of bacon at a time...always have some cooked on hand in the fridge.....

@@z570786 That's smart! You may hanker something sweet but it is a whole lot easier to cope with some fat in the belly, and bacon ALWAYS tastes good

The Canadian Food Guide was just changed a few months ago t limit sugars. Example;fruit juices were eliminated along with other changes. Why do most people in healthcare and the entertainment business look younger and live longer than the rest of the population in the United States and Canada? Most of us tend to eat closely to the way the generation before them did.Or we go along with the crowd at work or with friends when we are out. I read the book titled The Week Belly Diet. Okay so I went cold turkey. And I also hit the gym. In one month...I lost 16lbs. My blood came back better. And my blood pressure went down too. All this does work.I was a hospital cook for years...it does work. Just decide to do it.Get started now please.

Yes, sugar makes us happy. I have realized that I replaced love and affection of my parents with sugar. It was the only ‘sweatiness’, in my life. Great video!!!!! ❤️

I never knew I was a sugar addict, because the carbs I loved were bread, crisps (chips), fruits, and exactly the types of carbs Dr Ken speaks about in the beginning of this video. My favourite comfort food was a big bowl of cooked pasta. Now I have stopped eating those types of things, I still eat the fats (like butter) without the starchy carbs and the weight is dropping off without any effort to speak of -- but I will tell you, stopping eating bread and pasta was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and I have no doubt it amounted to an addiction. It was more difficult than stopping smoking (and I was a very heavy smoker in my youth)!
