I have never seen someone walk the razors-edge to try to criticize something while trying not too. The word you are looking for is "bad" try using it, but I understand want to stay in Rocksteady's good grace.

I honestly believe if they'd have just kept the Arkham style of stealth for the boss fights, make the Justice League one shot you if they see you and force you to use your brain to actually do damage

I always find it annoying when someone says "X thing killed the franchise" and then the franchise itself is literally fine lol. Suicide Squad isn't good, but it's not a franchise killer, at least not yet. People said the same thing about TLOU 2, and we still got an award-winning show and two remakes lol.
From what I've heard the all time peak player count for this game, at least for Steam, was less than that of the Avengers game. And also the player count has already dropped for this. And loads of folks are going back to Arkham Knight as its count has gone up. In a few months this game will be forgotten about no doubt.

Gotham knights was a repackaged version of the batman beyond style game rocksteady was on early development on. It focused on the bat family and took place after arkham knight. WB games and their non-human demon CEO's canned that game and forced the assets and concepts over to WB Montreal, force throated live service mechanics down the game and told Montreal to do with what they can with a terrible foundation. Suicide squad got made after the same Demon CEO's cancelled the superman game and mad the leadership at rocksteady leave.
Even if this isn't the actual JLA, it's still bad writing. Them being clones or other universe versions is just the "It was all a dream!" Of comic books.
You are correct. It currently has 4,000 players on Steam and less than 3000 viewers on Twitch. Its DoA People are making bets on Servers going down before Anthem / Avengers servers were pulled down.

Blocks gave you power-ups in Super Mario Bros. when you hit them was because you were releasing Toads trapped inside?), but rarely as screwy as modern entertainment that the squirrel is saying to apply "an 8-bit mindset" to.
It’s actually done more good than bad because all of this is elseworld which literally needed the multiverse if that didn’t exist we wouldn’t have gotten the games prior to SS.
SPOILERS FOR MORTAL KOMBAT 1 MENTIONED BELOW. The current obsession with the multiverse is honestly driving me mad. The concept has existed in comics and media as a whole for decades but with Disney pushing it to the forefront it's getting shoehorned into everything. Mortal Kombat 1 for example had a great first half and then the multiverse was revealed which makes everything redundant. No battle has any consequence, no character has any reason for you to like them. There are infinite versions which render it all meaningless. This game could have been good. There was no reason to set it within the Arkhamverse other than having groundwork to include familiar characters with zero storytelling. It's lazy writing that's become all too popular now. This could have been a Saint's Row 3/4 type ride with gameplay and story equally as fun and ridiculous but no, by crudely stitching this game to the preestablished history of the Arkham series we're left with a jarring mismatch between games.
I have only seen bits and pieces of gameplay of this game from other people, but 32:10 made me chuckle at "Superman's blow has Crazed you", like your character accidentally snorted a bunch of cocaine from Superman's secret stash.

@@leviticusprime4904 the treadmill gets extremely old, get a weapon/armor, they nerf it, few months/later its back with new/more perks, repeat rinse. Its just not fun anymore for me. I went back this weekend and replayed Arkham games and remembered classic gaming. There’s just other stuff nowadays than an old 1-100 battlepass and loot that gives .30% more damage to frozen enemies I’ve already beaten 10000 times.

13 Seasons is bloody optimistic. Collectively that's like making an entirely new game. I don't like this trend of having a game's story end on nothing and then saying, "Don't worry we'll patch the rest of the story in across the next few years!" Baldur's Gate 3 has a main story made of three massive acts, which after nearly 200 hours I finally finished (I like to explore literally everything my first time playing a game) and other than some additional epilogue stuff they added in a patch, the story is was complete on launch.
Season 1 has two Boss RESKIN fights. Literally it’s Superman & Green Lantern boss fights “bUt nOw iTs bRaiNiAc vErSiOnS” 😂 And a new playable character the Jonkler (aka they/them Joker from alternate universe thats masking his insecurities) to go back out and play the same 3 mission types over and over and over to collect loot you can’t put into your Vault/Safe/Storage because the game doesn’t have a storage. A looter shooter with no storage. SMH 🤦 Also season 2 comes with new microtransactions for cosmetics you won’t have access to in a year when servers shut down
I might be an old, grumpy man but damn that UI and visual feedback is horrendous. Would probably give me headaches to actually play and focus on the game. Also, adding 0s to your damage numbers doesn't make the game epic. Going from 10.000 to 11.000 damage is the same as if you go from 10 to 11. Those who make the design decisions aren't the ones playing the game afterwards, I reckon.
An immediate issue I'm surprised more people don't talk about. The damage numbers are inflated as hell and, from what I've noticed, they don't go up much throughout the game. It's just a super cheap way to try and give players serotonin
It says so much that a game with a playable character named Captain Boomerang doesn't use boomerangs as a primary weapon. The fact that the boomerangs are used for movement but are really just flash powers doesn't help much.

Here's what frustrates me. So much of the unnecessary crap is additive. If the devs wanted to make a $60 game where you have high-mobility ultraviolence like modern DOOM, where you're bouncing around the arena and maintaining this super-high-speed gameplay, set in a DC universe with some hyped-up suicide squad vs the Justice Lords and Brainiac, that would be AWESOME. Ditch the microtransactions. Ditch the live-service. Ditch the Arkham continuity.
Problem is that the stuff you want to ditch is the exact same stuff the bean counters at the parent company want. Microtransactions generate money even after the game is bought, live service models keep people playing longer (meaning more microtransaction purchases), and tying a game into a popular existing franchise just makes it that much cheaper and easier to market. They get told that this sort of stuff is the best way to maximize their ridiculously high investments, so they keep demand that their developers put it in the game. And they’re going to keep doing so until people stop falling for it.
@@1ManRandom But the thing is, these features can be added in ONCE THE GAME DOES WELL. You KNOW when Baldur's gate has DLC, they could introduce microtransactions and people wouldn't lose their minds. They can bring in a DLC where Arkham universe gets invaded. They can create a live service gameplay like "Fight the Void" where users will have weekly/monthly quests. A well-received game is its own advertisement for future projects.

I doubt those DLC examples would be particularly well received, as the game would need to be almost completely reworked to work well with either, to the point of changing the very essence of the game. The last sentence is true, though. It’s a shame that most publishers and developers don’t want to wait that long to see a return on their investment.
@@1ManRandom What blows my mind is that even if the DLC isn't particularly well received, it's post-review phase. If you release a great game and then port in money making techniques after your game has its 8s and 9s and 10s, or after it gets GOTY, then you can pull a skyrim and add the creation club. You can pull a league of legends and start adding buyable skins a year later. You can pull a WoW and add weekly and daily quests in DLC 3 or 4. Especially because the fans who are playing the game WOULD want to pay more to unlock more content, or show off to the other fans.
I don't mind not having another Arkham game. What saddens is that in another universe we could've have a Rocksteady Superman, Flash, WW, Greenlanter games. But instead we got... This.
When i first heard of it, i thought it was gonna be an open world beat em up like the Arkham series. Disappointed to hear it was gonna be a looter shooter, and the disappointment went deeper when i heard it'll be live service. Rocksteady, what happened to you?!

I think the thing that really sums this game up for me is how gross it felt when they had the whole tribute for Conroy at the end just to smash cut to all the season plans and extra content right after. Just didn’t sit right with me, especially after what a joke Batman was treated as throughout the game.

as far as the end boss fight (Didnt play the game, just going off of your description) it feels really weird that if they were doing the "Transform into other boss from earlier" final boss, that they woudnt have braniac transform into all the bosses from earlier, like 1 phase as the flash, 1 as batman, etc.
Exactly, as soon as I saw him turn into flash I was disappointed hut figured okay he is gonna work his way up through the league... but no, he just anyi-climactically face plants like all the others once you deplete his health bar
I can say with 100% certainty that some of the people who were going to actually make the game raised objections to this, and the people at the top told them to shut up Fortnite is popular so we're doing a live service game now.
Those people left too. Two of the top Rocksteady founders quit and are making 100 Star Studios (i think thats the studio name) Also credits on this game compared to Batman Arkham games hardly any same names. Alot of people left studio. They didn’t want to make this trash.
The UI is still possibly the most horrifying thing I 've ever seen in a video game. I've seen legit terrible low budget games with better UI than this.
@@firmak2 its been weird since the game came out, with in a hour of it going live it had a 3,000 reviews for a very positive score with many of the reviews saying crap like "its fun" and "i like it" that a bot would post
I was immediately put off the gane just by the UI and premise. A friend of mine has been hounding me to try it out. This helped solidify my choice to skip it. Sounds like five hours of fun sandwiched in a thirty hour grind, like trying to get geared in Destiny without any of the payoff the Raids and Crucible.
All you have to do to transform this into a normal challenge run video is just imagine Nerbit saying: “And that’s why we’re here to find out, can you beat Suicide Squad without losing your sanity?”
The fake Justice League thing is probably gonna be the plot of the future seasons to try and win people back, but... it's hard to recover from such a bad first impression

I'm not even the biggest Batman fan but Arkham Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy being killed unceremoniously to further the oversaturation of Harley Quinn in modern media sure is a thing that I find irritating.
"Storys can just end" I feel like this is a common theme across a lot of different areas. Actual story writers would probably agree with you but I think it's the big bossmen, stockholders just want everything squeezed for every penny atm and when it dries up, trash the studio.
Barbara did become Batgirl again with the New 52 onwards, where it’s explained she got very experimental surgery on her spine, so there was even precedent for it in the comics! And I agree that game series should be allowed to end, and for its flaws the Arkham-series had a proper arc.
Haven't played the game (and never will, honestly) but I've been seeing Captain Boomerang doing the "look back, turn back horrified" bit on TikTok and it's always very funny.
So big Superman fan here big misconception with Kryptonite although it is his weakness it takes time to drain him completely so if he’s stabbed with it in the chest like he was his super regeneration will protect him before it can kill him. And if he’s serious and angry like he was in this game he can still kill you while weakened. Doesn’t make this game any better but still it is lore accurate to Superman. The gold kryptonite like they used later on would kill Superman if stabbed in the heart that being said none of them should have been able to hit him considering how stupid fast he is Plot Armor in this game is fucking bananas
If we want to be generous we could say the heros are such chumps because they’re fighting from the inside and want the release of death. But I doubt the devs were thinking about that just shoot flash lol!
One genre I find does escort missions reasonably well is spaceship games, especially if they have you in a small fighter. But they usually have allied ships helping you along, and sometimes the ship you're escorting has a small number of point defense guns as well. I thought we might be in for some... not outdated, but certainly vintage game design when I saw the red laser pointer snipers. The game genuinely looks like a series of mechanics smooshed together that learned the wrong lessons from various open world games and from Borderlands. Live service game? Ugh, even if I was interested, that's a hard no from me on that point alone, let alone the horrible pointless rank system. I'm out of the loop when it comes to superhero media, but this seems like they wanted to make a game where you play as the supervillains, but were afraid of having the playable characters actually carry out villainous actions, other than killing brainwashed superheroes. If you're going to say "Here, play as a supervillain," drop the pretext and let the player be a supervillain. At least I have another thing to point to when i get asked why I want smaller games now.
The Suicide Sqaud is a team of d to c list villains (mostly) who are forced onto missions by a woman called Amanda Waller. They usually have arcs where they become heroes, and probably die, but this game gave them litteraly no character development
@@twinzzlers I didn't know that was the point of the team; I thought it was just an edgy supervillain team name. We can chalk this up to my lack of comics/superhero knowledge in general. I can see the concept being interesting, and based on what I saw from the review, there's a lot of potential in a heroic Captain Boomerang. But they botched it enough to make it feel like they still wanted a villain game, rather than a "Villains become heroes" game. Either way, thanks for the info.

Games like this are doomed to fail since the superhero genre in general has outlived its welcome - Marvel Multiverse and whatever you wish to call DC has seen to that. Throw in the fact that the only live service game worth playing (outside of MMORPGs) is Destiny 2, and even Bungy know it's time to call it on that.
The thing I love most about the scene where Harley nonchalantly executes Arkham Batman is that she does so with what is very obviously a revolver... yet a second after she fires you can magically hear the sound of a bullet casing bouncing across the floor. That's not how a Revolver work, how do you fuck that up in 2024?? Did the sound team fall asleep at the wheel?? I guess this game really is just an example of complete incompetence all the way down to the foundations. :l
The sad part is a Suicide Squad game in the Arkhamverse could've worked if they went with a Rainbow Six meets Hitman meets Arkham style where you have to infiltrate different facilities to take out or extract targets and depending on your play style, terrain and mission you plan a different course of attack and you can switch on the fly or coordinate allies to attack or distract. Imagine a mission where the VIP has to be extracted on a boat you infiltrate with Harley all dolled up to pass patrols, you notice the VIP is drunk with a single guard you have Deadshot or Peacemaker or Bloodshot in overwatch and he can take the guard out or you can have King Shark swim up pull the VIP into the water extracting him or you can have Harley Honeypot him back to the extraction zone. Anything wouldve been more interesting then another live service lootershooter.
Honestly, can we consider Elizabeth an escort quest? She's literally never threatened in gameplay, unlike Ashley or the girl from ICO, and she's massively helpful to Booker. I admit the plot is an escort quest, but it doesn't feel like it at all from a gameplay perspective to me.
@@HydraRaptorCH Escort missions don't necessarily mean they need to be stopped via a health bar. Overwatch has an escort mission in the form of moving a payload.
@@dpray96Fair, but Elizabeth is only being escorted in the sense of the story. Even with your Overwatch comparison, you still are required to protect the payload from the enemy team to make progress. There is never a time in BioShock Infinite where you risk losing progress because of Elizabeth, is more what I mean.
I'm fairly certain that Gizmo's missions, and Poison Ivy's for that matter, are ultimately to make the final Brainiac fight(s) easier. Both Ivy's plants and Gizmo's cars will show up in Brainiac's arena, and the more missions you do the stronger their support will be. The more of Ivy's missions you do, the wider the variety of Affliction Spores will show up, and Afflicted enemies will hurt Brainiac when he tries to heal himself. Doing Gizmo's missions makes the cars stronger, so when they're phased in they deal more damage and last longer for use against Brainiac.
@@wpyyexe In fairness, there are going to be 12 more Brainiac variant boss fights. So it's not going entirely to waste on a single boss fight. But yeah, it is pretty lame all things considered.

Battlefront 2 had the star wars IP behind it which significantly helped, and FO76... Well TBH I have no idea why anyone stuck around for that, aside from sunk cost when people pre-ordered the thing... I just get the impression that Suicide squad has totally bombed on it's release, and I don't think WB will see any point in sticking with it for the long haul. People didn't like the story, and most people weren't really that into the gameplay either. I don't know what WB could even bring to the table to get people interested.

The following is my opinion as someone who doesn't care at all about the DC universe, so don't take this too seriously: this game is a narrative mess solely because we should believe these four goobers didn't instantly die to the first enemy they faced (I think that being Flash). DC superheroes are very strong (and afaik as a layman the Flash is particularly strong to the point of bending time), and while they have weaknesses and whatnot those are not weaknesses a normal man should be able to exploit. The whole thing just feels kinda insulting even to me. This could've been done right if the fights were set up in a way to naturally allow our protags to win but nah.
Bioshock Infinite also was good Escort Missions. Elizabeth just tearing holes in the fabric of reality was a good mechanic, and she doesn't get caught at all so you just have to focus on the main fighting.
I'd argue that because you can't lose it's not an escort mission. Otherwise I'd say that all the lego games are great escort missions since you always have someone following you around and needing you to make a path for them but they never die and you never fail. Not saying there's a problem with how bioshock infinite or lego did it just that it's not really a traditional escort mission.
@@FormalGibble I get this idea, but Bioshock Infinite is still relatively traditional. LEGO is for drop-in drop-out co-op, Bioshock was single-player. You don't play as Elizabeth, she does her own thing, but in and out of combat, Elizabeth helps you out. Gives you supplies, opens tears as I said, and even gives you allies by summoning turrets or robots. Plus, you can still lose. Dying sets you back, although thankfully nothing tied to Elizabeth will kill you.

I want to say, I'm a DC comic book nerd, and this game failed on so many levels. It feels like the people writing the story don't actual know the material they work with. Also, Batman TAS was my childhood, still sad about Kevin Conroy's passing. RIP

I get this is survival mode, but my god this game is just way too sensory overlaod. too many icons, too many messages, huge numbers flying at you bright colours, objective markers showing up.
33:00 little comment on this Oracle was paralysed by joker in Gotham knights, she’s wearing some sort of brace that allows her to walk, you can see it under her shirt in some scenes, it’s never mentioned physically but her role as oracle is a few times
Something unimportant that really bugs me is the riddler stuff in this game. The dude is entirely characterized by his ego, with his challenges intended to prove he is intellectually superior to his target. The hell does he have to prove to these four dumbasses? Half of the gags with them are about how stupid they are!
Thank you for saying that series can come to an end. I've been gaming for 30+ years seen many series just die in a whimper because they just kept going.
It was barely mentioned, but I still want to comment on the RE4 part. I agree. I didn't find Ashley bad at all in the original. I felt like I was doing my job. Anytime I could, I simply had her camp out in a dumpster till I cleared the area. When that wasn't an option, I just had to play a bit more intelligently i.e. hit and run tactics. I haven't finished RE4R yet so I can't say for sure, but it feels like the enemies just SWARM you now, ESPECIALLY in The Castle area, compared to RE4. Feels like that makes it way harder to take care of Ashley since you're being jumped by 20 to 40 enemies every 11 steps, unlike the original (I'm exaggerating, barely, don't have a cow). Virtually everyone but me complains about Ashley in RE4, yet no one else but me feels RE4R has a swarming issue? I'd say I'm surprised, but that would be a lie. I'm used to being the odd one out.
So I went HARD on RE4make last year (and also last week), and I will agree that enemies are far more numerous and therefore more threatening to Ashley. However, because of the changes to Ashley's survivability; she does not have a health bar and only exists in three states (normal, wounded, captured) before you get a game over. Her AI also has a tendency to get in the way when you have to make sharp turns or quick maneuvers. It's far from the game's biggest problem (that would be the absolutely BS stun and health scaling on later chapters and higher difficulties), but I agree with you as a long time RE4 Stan that Ashley in RE4make has prpblems, despite them being arguably less frustrating than her simply dying outright all the time by jumping in the way of my knife.

Ashley was actually behind me...but because of the layout of the boxes, as I was turning and slashing them, I clipped Ashley and she died. My jaw almost dropped. Lol
I just choose to completely separate the Arkham games from all other batman games in my head cannon; I will never allow those dumbasses to ruin anything about my literal childhood.

So about Superman and kryptonite. He actually grows a somewhat immunity to it the older he gets. So if this was like an older version of Superman, That Wonder Woman threw into a chest of kryptonite then at the very least it would probably weaken him but if it's a younger Superman then yeah he should be dead.
Nerdbit I have a challenge idea for you: Can you beat Fallout New Vegas as John Rambo? Goals: - Join up with the NCR as a commando; Rambo was trained to be the very best soldier there is. Not only does this make the most sense given it's military background, but while Rambo definitely distrusts the government, he would view the NCR as the lesser of evils when compared to House and Caesar's Legion. The only character out of the ones they've bothered to put in the game who i'd say would have a chance against Superman is Luthor who hates him and would obviously have some kind of kryptonite-based weapon if thats his known weakness in universe Flash saves their lives twice, and, well, most people saw what happened to him Wonder Woman does nothing for the whole game and when she dies its very sad all these insanely powerful characters are never utilized properly and die to a gun Flash just runs around and quips and gets shot Lantern, who for some reason only makes like machine guns and choppers and sea mines, gets shot Batman, who for some reason doesnt have a bulletproof cowl, also gets shot Superman, the absolute powerhouse of the DC, gets shot Lantern's ring for some reason stays on his finger while he's brainwashed, stops trying to fly away when Deadshot steps on his hand, SOMEHOW King Shark is able to use it and turns hyper evil for a second? its not The One Ring from LOTR, why does that even happen? Batman for some reason just has bank vaults with his superhero stuff in it (which is where the Squad meets Wonder Woman with a kryptonite shield) and does not bother to retrieve it Braniac, the final boss of the story, uses the power of Flash and only Flash? not like the whole League as several stages of the fight also the Squad does not shut up EVER, they just keep talking and talking and talking and nothing they say is ever interesting or funny or well written King Shark is just discount MCU Drax, Deadshot is just a generic action man, Boomerang and Harley are both completely insufferable (i can understand if you find it funny, that is very subjective, but still, i think Harley was better utilized as a Joker sidekick with limited scenes)
