You could've actually _technically_ been "given" a military-grade circuit board by completing The Lost Patrol quest that Danse gives you. After finding Paladin Brandis, he says that you can take anything you want from the bunker he's been hiding out in. Not only is a military-grade circuit board there, there's also a fusion core in the generator there, so you could have gotten an extra core for your power armor. ;)
Another extreme theoretical would be getting Ada, as I think you could say she "gives" herself to you upon saving her from the robot attack. From there you'd just have to wait however long it would be for her to randomly give you a military grade circuit board and/or high powered magnets.
@@ChronomatonI was thinking that he could have used Dogmeat, one could interpret his arrival as "The Universe" gift you with a pupper. And then you could ask him to fetch as a form of looting quest items.
If you squint hard enough at the rules and turn Kelloggs head into mush with the hammer then technically he gifted you his brain remains when they hit your body. I think.
@@fuckinantipope5511People i preach to you out of love. come to the lord Jesus christ who died for our sins, all have sinned and will perish but christ came so that who ever belives in him would not perish but have eternal life. (john 3:16-18) Christ is the only way to salvation you must humble yourself, confess you sins and repent and live according to christ you are never far gone please dont reject christ but make him your lord and trust in his work on the cross he died because he loves you and we are saved by gods grace by our faith in christ please read these words and seek the words of the bible Jesus loves you
Im slightly surprised you didnt go for Pickman's blade. Sure, he doesn't outright give it to you, but he does give you the key and even alludes to it being a gift.
I was thinking similarly for the Shishkebab. Sure, you don't get given it the first time you find it, but the first time you find it it's a quest item. After that you bring it to the questgiver and THEN he gives it to you.
I'm going to make the counter argument preston simply instructors you to commandeer it. He doesn't explicitly grant you ownership to it and technically it would be either collective property of the minutemen or property of the deceased estate.
I think one way of explaining away the whole "grabbing quest items because there's no alternative", you could say that *_technically_* by being asked to go get the item in question (even by the game itself), you are _given_ orders to get the item and thereby temporary ownership of it. It's a whole lot of semantics and technicalities, but it's the best I can do for making this run legitimate.
One of the reasons you say you get the refractor perk a lot is because no matter which faction you join youll be facing down a ton of lasers. Either from the brotherhood, the institute, or both
Technically the laser musket and ammo outside the museum could be considered a gift since preston was the current member of the minutemen and gave it to you.
I think that's the best way to do it. Don't simply end the challenge or give up on all the rules as soon as it's failed, do the run as close to success as possible (with the caveat of maybe going a bit further from success for the sake of enjoyment, like picking up an unnecessary quest item to get a better weapon so you don't have to do gun bash 2 electric boogaloo)
I think quest items and items needed to complete quests should be fine to pick up so long as you don't USE them. Like, no using, say, a weapon that is also a quest item. You also needed to pick up the deep range transmitter off the body of a synth to complete the quest at Arcjet Systems so you could get Righteous Authority.
Nerbit, have you ever thought of trying to do a playthrough with just the domination perks to control other people/creatures/robots? I don't think it would be too hard but can be interesting to see how quests play out
I tried a run like this and it's really boring/not fun unless you use something like the Pacify Perks Revised mod on the nexus; otherwise you can only use them on enemies below your level AND it only has a flat 40% chance that can't be altered. You can get guaranteed success of control if you hit the enemy with a Pax syringe from the Syringer since you'll need a "gun" anyway to use the Perks.
9:30 that may just be one of if not the most op outfit in the entire game, wearing it makes you immune to radiation in a roundabout way, it increases it's rad resistance based on how many rads you have but if you push past the point where you become immune by food/drink you can get to 1000 rads and not die
9:50 Actually believe it or not a fully upgraded regular Sledgehammer outdamages it in a melee-oriented build, especially if you get a good legendary modifier. But for non-melee characters yeah, Atom's Judgement is by far the most effective melee weapon.
@@archerelms When fully upgraded and with a melee-oriented perk setup, a standard sledgehammer can do several hundred damage in a single hit, and causes whatever it hits to bleed, and has a pretty good chance of to cripple or stun the target, or both. Oh, and that several hundred damage is split between energy and physical damage, so even high-defense enemies aren't safe since they usually have a high physical resistance or high energy resistance, but not both. The Nuka-World DLC lets sledgehammers and baseball bats go absolutely nuts with high tier mods for some reason.
@@ClonedGamer001 it is one of the big complaints I have with fallout 4's sledge hammer/super sledge, I still can't comprehend why I cant upgrade my super sledge in a similar way to the normal hammer, especially as one of the first mods for the high damage hammer essentially turns it into a super sledge (Those rockets on the back are literally the same model)
Wouldn’t say effective, for melee I honestly carry knife or a sword, sledgehammer AND Atoms judgement are too heavy to justify for non-melee character anyway
@@annoyance.2583 And that's the difference between effective and practical. The sledgehammer and knife do the same job, but the sledgehammer does it substantially better. However, the increase cost of doing that job better isn't always worth it when something cheaper can be enough.
Honestly for me challenge runs are good and fun but i can not stress this enough. REQUIRED QUEST ITEMS are the exception to what i say i cant loot. They are the only exception to ANY run i do and are full on 100% free game to loot for the fact they are REQUIRED to beat the game.
The robes are even more useful than you think, they have an effect where as you get more radiation you get more and more resistant to radiation. To the point it eventually becomes 100%.
if you finish the Cabot quest line and side with Lorenzo he will give you mysterious serum whenever you ask for it and it gives you 5 strength 50 dr and takes away like 36000 rads with the only downside is he will only give you 1 at a time and wont give you another until you have used the first. it would've really helped out with survivability if you consider them gifts as the only one he gives you without prompt is the first one but I see this as the same sort of deal as the Mr handy giving you water in the fallout 3 run
The only problem is he would have had to break the rules to progress the quest. For example: when you go get the lost samples from the dead patrol which are found out to be taken by raiders, they don’t technically give them to you because you have to kill them to collect it
10:55 Although it wouldn't solve the problem with materials, you can unlock Starlight Drive In without opening the door to the shack by using the cooking station next to the cinema screen.
Nerbit you've inspired me to do my own oblivion challenge run I'm going to try and make a video out of it hope it goes well never done something like this
happy birthday nerby boy! i had a really interesting idea for a skyrim (or oblviion) challenge: a daedric servant. only items allowed are rewards from daedric quests, and to add a bit of challenge, you have to get at least 5 daedric artifacts before killing finishing the game, so as to incentivize you to get a few levels, since quite a few quests have a level requirement
I respect that you step around certain limitations to make the challenge either: a. Possible, or b. More fun It helps me remember that video games should be something thats fun first and foremost... and challenging yourself should have that end goal too :)
While you're right about the brain and cursor chips I do think that buying the teleporter parts with money doesn't break the run as you allow other purchases with reward money. Oh, and happy late birthday.
You say the run is impossible, and i can see two reasons why: kellogs brain bits, and magnets. Neither being a quest reward nor a gift, but are mandatory for the main story. I’ll see exactly what you were referring to when i get there, but those are my immediate thoughts, and im 99% certain i am correct. Edit: forgot the courser chip, but i did remember the magnets for the teleporter which i doubt most people would, so i’ll take it haha
Great to see you come back after all this time! Can't wait to see a challenge run of Fallout 4 or New Vegas as an irish... well... uh... soldier (beating the game with only molotovs and c4)
The robes of atoms devoted don't just give you extra rad resistance, they actually increase your rad resistance the higher your rads, which allows you to become fully irradiated without dying, making your HP full with max rads
Hey Nerbit. Wanted to let you know that in Power Armor, Heavy/Slow melee weapons swing faster in third person cause you swap to 1-handed over the normal First-Person 2-Handed
Happy late birthday! You are one of the few creators that have me put everything aside the second I see a new video. Your style of commentary is just incredibly fun to listen to. Keep it up mate, and thank you for your time and effort put into this!
There is actually quite a flaw with your logic, which is that by the rules of the challenge, Ada isn’t a gift as she is not given to you like Charon, Rex, and Cait are, so therefore, Nerbit can’t use Ada as a follower. Also, her name is Ada.
@@erdood3235 Think before you comment. The problem isn’t simply that Ada gives you the items; it is that you have to use Ada as a companion to get items from her since, for the purposes of the birthday challenges, companions are considered gifts. If we used your logic, Nerbit could have simply used Dogmeat’s fetch option in Fallout 3 to get basically any item.
@@erdood3235 Because you responded to me for no reason a couple days ago, and you believe that Nerbit should have used your "solution" when your "solution" is against the rules of the challenge.
Glad you're feeling better, and happy belated birthday! I will never get tired of the MGR references lol. Also here's some random challenge ideas: Can you beat skyrim as a mudcrab? Can you beat fallout (any of them) with only a fatman? Can you beat skyrim as Ep2 Yoda? (small, daggers only, insane jumping) Can you beat fallout as an incel? (low strength/charisma, only a katana, no armor, antagonizing everyone you see)
Man this was so fun to watch. Glad to see you back in action. To be honest, when you went to Fah Hahbah, I thought you were gonna do Cassie Dalton’s quest to get Bloodletter. Atom’s Judgment came as quite a surprise to me.
11:00 I'm pretty sure you could still build the radio if you could somehow get through the door. Scrapping items using the settlement's Workshop Mode sends the junk straight to the Workshop and not your inventory. I will admit that I could be mistaken, but I think there's enough scrappable material in the Drive-In to build at least one generator and one radio.
Quest rewards from Skyrim (if you've not done it before) going to be pretty challenging to get some armour unless Jarl Baalgruf is feeling charitable & gives something that isn't peasant clothes & the 1st weapons you'll most likely get will be the axe of Whiterun or keeping the longbow from Ralof or the Imperial soldier that 90% never leave Helgen with lol. Be interesting to see what & where you go to complete this. I'd say items found on quest/bounty related kills (bandit leaders, dragons & giants) technically are rewards over the minor gold you get from completing them 😉
Well know I wanna hear you doing a Marge Simpson impression. Happy late birthday, glad you're feeling better. Can you beat Fallout 4 with only Book Return items? There are many overdue books scattered across the Commonwealth, with terminals that give you 5 tokens for each one you return. These tokens can be redeemed for random junk, including weapons, stimpaks and chems. The items are randomized every new game, but the weapons and stimpaks are guaranteed. Granted, the only weapons are a Combat Knife, grenades, and a 10mm pistol (Ammo not included) so it looks like it's gonna be a CQC run. You can also buy fusion cores, meaning power armor is also a viable option. Buying stuff with caps is also not allowed, but unlike this run, you're allowed to take stuff you need for the story.
I was starting to worry about ya! Great video, happy belated birthday Challenge suggestion (again, only cause I think you'd do well with it): can you beat fallout 4 as an influencer? Can't attack, have to get NPCs to do your dirty work for you. Either lead them to each other, or take the charisma perks (and robot expert) to force them to do your bidding
Happy Birthday Nerbit! I actually started playing Fallout 4 through a combination of enjoying your videos plus being reminded by Starfield that yes, I enjoy Bethesda's nonsense. And now thanks to the crazy modding community it's one of my favourite games. Would you ever consider doing a run in Fallout 1 or 2? I know they are radically different than the later games but it might be fun to see how it goes.
Belated is still good! "Better late than never" they always say I'm always happy to see another video from you, whether it's "on time" or not! Keep up the great work!
What I expected: Beating the game while only gun bashing with the Righteous Authority What I got: Beating the game as a glass cannon build with one of my favorite weapons in all of Fallout 4 Happy belated birthday btw
I’m glad you are feeling better and Happy late Birthday. Also excellent choice on picking the Brotherhood of Steel to join, Ad Victoriam brother. P.S. I would love to see you do another kill everything run, looking forward to it.
The missile missing the damage is because of vats, when you use vats explosions can straight up miss. This works in the unofficial patch at least on Xbox so this means it's not a bug it is a feature
HE'S ALIVE! Also, wouldn't be right? Truly, Nerbit is a man of unstoppable character. He may be willing to beat children to death in a video game, but he doesn't dare ignore quest events in an arbitrary birthday themed challenge in that same video game.
Happy late birthday! If I recall, the materials needed to make a recruitment beacon and a single generator are automatically placed in the workshops of settlements you’re asked to set them in. The Bobby pins are a much worse issue, though. Oh, and atom’s robes are even better for the sea than you’d think - they give increasingly more radiation resist the higher your rads, up to outright immunity with 901 rads. And the best part? Once you’re immune, the game will let you heal despite the radiation, meaning you can have full health and radiation immunity. Combine that with the inquisitor/crusader of atom, and you’re unstoppable.
You could've started with the Railroad quests first because unlike Danse, Deacon actually DOES give you a weapon during the Tradecraft quest. Not to mention they can help you decode the chip without hostility and then you can still end up turning on them. The Call to Arms quest however fails the challenge instantly because you actually can't be given the Righteous Authority until you pick up the Deep Range Transmitter first, which is technically looting. Other than that, great video.
