The tone of the game is exemplified by King Shark. His comments are always sarcastics, yet he seems to also genuinely respect the Justice League and it's impossible for me to ever tell which is which.

I don’t think I would have a problem with the premise if it was its own thing. It’s purely the connection to the Arkham saga that gives me a bad taste in my mouth

It’s crazy how flash saved the suicide squad twice, the second time saving Harley specifically, and essentially sacrificing his autonomy to save her. His reward is that they don’t even try to capture him alive and after getting shot down like a regular enemy, boomer tries to pee on his corpse. Harley didn’t even have anything to say. But when a Wonder Woman dies Harley was near tears like these characters had some deep relationship spanning back multiple games.

The problem with Harley in this game is they replaced her Arkham character with the modern Harley which is incompatible without heavy story manipulation, and canon breaking aside, I see the modern Harley as a train wreck of a character which sucks because that’s the only blueprint they use for Harley anymore

All I could really think while playing this game was how much better it would’ve been if the game was entirely about Wonder Woman trying to save the Justice League, but instead we’re stuck with this.

killing batman was never gonna work but rocksteady still didn't live up to the expectations. Batman could've shown some resistance against the mind control, he could've had an epic boss fight and a significant death, he could've had great dialogue with Harley Quinn and the rest of the justice league instead of just being a brainwashed terminator, they could've shown more of him before turning evil (the museum and the holograms felt really flat and anonymous) . No matter how much the story and the game's phylosophy sucked from the beginning, the execution is still rushed and uninspired

13:23 They made The Squad act needlessly spiteful towards Batman shortly after their growth from Wonder Woman’s Death and hyped up his death, Harley got over Joker’s death and believes Batman to be a good person yet acts shitty towards him the most by recounting his trauma, King Shark even knew to respect Flash and Green Lantern’s deaths but completely gives up on that with Batman and Superman. If this is what the best they had to offer that is incredibly disappointing.

I’m glad you can find some enjoyment from this game. My only two gripes are that it should’ve been its own story (or seriously leave the Arkhamverse alone), and the rampant bugs that happened with the servers and save files. My gripes aside, it’s okay, and I want more King Shark. 👑🦈

This is why I love you, ClownPuncher. I myself haven't played the game, but from what I've seen, I was never sold on it. However, despite the hate on this story and game by most people, I'm glad you were truly honest about this review. I understand that feeling of enjoying a game most people shit on, and this review of the game makes me kinda wanna buy it on sale at some point. I Iove Arkham Batman, and the way they did his death definitely did pain me. Despite that, it looks like the gameplay and other aspects do seem enjoyable, and again, I'm glad you went above and beyond expressing how you truly felt. That's what really matters in a review.

I feel like Rocksteady's getting too much hate for this game (though some of it may be justified). I'm playing this game right now and I'm having a blast with it, and I actually like the story (so far), but it's totally understandable if someone thinks differently. Either opinion is valid in their own ways. In my eyes, this is The Last of Us 2 for DC. You're either going to love it or hate it.

If writers would've understand the characters, they shouldn't be fighting against the JL and defeating them.

Setting this game in the arkham universe was the worst decision yet. So many unexplained changes, loopholes, and destruction of already established characters.

I’m gonna talk spoilers for a second . . . The big defense I’ve been seeing about the Justice League’s deaths is that it doesn’t matter, because we know they’re coming back. However, I disagree, I think it matters immensely. For the sake of argument, let’s ignore the months and months it’ll take for them to come back in the seasons, which gives people plenty of time to stop caring about this game and its story. What legitimately will happen to the League once they come back? I think people forget that this is a live service looter shooter about the Suicide Squad, which severely limits the ways in which they can come back and their role in the story going forward. Best case scenario, everyone comes back as support characters in the Hall of Justice you can interact with. That’s ridiculous. There’s a lot you can do with the fallout for the League both personally and to the world, but this game cant address those things properly. Superman overcoming his depression about killing Wonder Woman and redeeming himself to the hero he’s supposed to be again, or Batman realizing he killed Tim Drake and trying to put himself and the Batfamily back together, etc. These things could be interesting, but the issue is that a live service looter shooter about the Suicide Squad doesn’t have the bandwidth to deal with any of these things in a meaningful way.

Rock steady has totally gone under. Their profits have plummeted, they're player base is shrinking within days of release, they spent years making a game that only massively damaged their reputation and respect, most of their talented veteran staff have left. They don't have any core audience left and they're main selling point is gone. Triple a games take millions and millions of dollars to makes and hundreds of people. It was made to be a live service that will generate next to no money because nobody will play it. So yes one flop can ruin an entire company, just as one flop of a Hollywood movies can lose of millions of dollars. If you were an investor why you ever agree to fund them, all they did is lose a bunch of money, generate huge amounts of negative press for the company. It took 6 years for them to create something that will lose all it's value within a month, you can like the game all you want but games need to make money to survive, this game won't make anything and makes any future product they make have a much higher chance of failing. The only way you are surviving a massive flop of a game is if you're initial sales are extremely good or you spend years afterwards fixing everything, Cyberpunk although being a mess still made tons of profit so it still was not massive loss, no man's sky took 4 years to of hard work to make the game actually great, this game has none of that. It's not that popular, it never is never growing and the only hope of a comeback is spending years of of work and hundreds of hours of man power trying to fix it.

I will say, regardless of my mixed feelings about the game, and how much I feel Batman was out of character, I love how his boss encounters made you realize why criminals feared the Batman. Obviously, his boss encounters make you feel like the petty henchman you would hunt down in Arkham. Constantly looking over your shoulder, trying to find the Bat in some feudal attempt to escape unharmed. I ironically started saying things that the henchman would say in the Arkham games like “Stay away from me, Batman. Stay away!” And even once I got into the open world, I was constantly watching my back to see if Batman was spying on us from a rooftop because I know that something that can happen in the game. I never spotted him personally, but the characters actually commented that Batman was watching them so I took a full minute to look around with the sniper scope to see if I could spot him. But of course he was long gone. But the idea that he was watching me constantly kept me on my toes. That is the fear Batman inspires in his enemies. Even without his presence, you are terrified that he is going to get you. They may have screwed up his character, but they definitely understand why people fear the Batman. And honestly this makes me wish we got more games like Arkham origins multiplayer where you would step into the rules of your common henchman, and have to survive a night against the Batman or fail trying. That is the DC multiplayer shooter game I want especially, if you have a chance of playing as Batman and praying on your fellow player.

I remember recently when green lantern trapped the squad, mentioned deadshot’s daughter, and I immediately switched to Deadshot for the plot. For a game with this bad of a story they did have some genuinely good character moment that actually immersed me in said story.

This was a very mature video, and i really do appreciate your honest opinion. A lot of people will bandwagon on an opinion and say people are wrong for having an opinion that is different. I appreciate that you didnt 100% dick ride this game and you still managed to acknowledge its flaws and the circumstances of why it turned out the way it did. As someone who actually likes the dmc: devil may cry reboot I'm pretty sure much on the same boat. The game's story, writing, and characters were very bad, their were some cool ideas but they were never fleshed out and i think the game should have been a bit more challenging in terms of difficulty but despite those flaws i really like the game overall i think the combat system is extremely fun despite being simplified, it has a kick ass sound track that literally no dmc fan pays any attention to. I fucking love the art style and atmosphere for the game. It has this surreal bright emo/ grunge look with bright colors. it's a very unique looking game and the concept art is great too. dmc: devil may cry is not a great game but its no where close to being a bad game either and its definitely not the best devil may cry game. But just like what you said in your video, it's a game that I like, i find myself replaying some of the levels every once and a while

i feel like they really shot themselves in the foot by having this be in the arkhamverse, just because every one is gonna compare its to those games and be mad about how they kinda shit all over the lore of those games. i think a lot more people would be less harsh if this game was in its own universe

They could have given him a better send off if it means you don’t have him talk as much, which can work for Batman, and/or use what he did record as a way to structure a handful of new sentences. This could have been done and then just have the squad talk more to compensate. They disrespected the man that made Rocksteady famous, the Arkham series is not it without Kevin Conroy. So if we *have* to kill this legendary icon and many others to boot, Make It Mean Something.

I’m glad you enjoyed the game, and aren’t afraid to express it. It sucks that there are people out there labeling others as “shills” just because they enjoyed the game. I’ll definitely pick the game up when it goes on sale, but for now I just don’t feel compelled to buy it, especially without friends to play with. My hope is that WB sees the complaints about the writing and repetitive gameplay and takes it to heart, though. I honestly don’t want to see a GL game that tries to mimic Destiny

I have not played the game but the vibe I've been getting from reviews is that it is not worth the $70 price tag and wait for a sale. I like the comparison of Sunset Overdrive, a game I love, because of how heavily inspired Insommniac's Spider-Man games are by the OG Arkham games

Or that this game is ugly, which it isn't by any standard (compare any game with Arkham Knight, and that game may look bad in comparison). As a Dark Souls fan, who have always used the argument of, "it's not for everyone". Well I wanted this game to be for the majority honestly. It had potential, I mean, four misfits as the main protagonists, that sounds just like Borderlands, and, I love Borderlands. Except, it didn't live up to that kind of level to me, I'm not expecting a Borderlands clone, but I am expecting a competent game and maybe an even more competent story. To me, it is rather disappointing, I know, very original, right? If one enjoys this game, found it good or find it their money's worth? Alright, that's okay. But what I absolutely hate are the people saying the same exact thing about people hating on this game. "It's for yhe sake of hate", maybe it was for others. But there are a large amount of people who has a lot of things to say about it in a negative manner as well. It's kinda distasteful that having criticism means also attacking people who have enjoyed it even though by stating that, they're basically doing the same exact thing just on the opposite side of the fence.

its so refreshing to see a review that takes an honest opinion to this game. i feel like so many people are butthurt that its not arkham that they refuse to accept that it can be good. i personally had a lot of fun with this game and am excited for future content, and i hope that people warm up to it by then, and most of all i hope that rocksteady continues to make the quality games we all know and love.

This isn't inherently unfair anymore than it's "unfair" when people complain about a government program without specifically calling out the person responsible, or to stick with fiction, when they blame a director or writer of a film when it's more than just their contribution that makes the final product. Children get points for trying to walk, addicts get points for trying to quit, "professional" game designers and writers get paid for trying, but they don't get points from the public for trying if they produce garbage. Nobody cares if you enjoy a bad product, that's why the phrase "so bad it's good" has any meaning, it's when you try to defend the product on the basis that you enjoy it instead of on its merits, or try to recategorize subjectively enjoyable aspects as objectively quality, or when you sacrifice your standards of objective quality in the face of a product that fails to pass despite your enjoyment, that makes people take issue. If you really didn't expect to sway anyone with your opinion, why did you bother making this video instead of just sharing your thoughts with close friends only or even put out a Tweet or other brief social media post? Reviews are meant to inform the viewer regarding a product they are interested in and to provide a compelling argument to why said product is good or bad. Of course it's up to the viewer to decide, that goes without saying, but the critic should have no trouble being confident in their statements so long as they're supported by evidence. No matter how many times it's said, nobody complains about a product being given positive coverage just because they personally didn't like it any more than the inverse happens, as in it happens, but it's largely trivial in the broader discourse. It only gets raised as though it's a legitimate point whenever it's regarding controversial titles like this, and most of the time it's said as a contrarian argument from someone insecure over their having enjoyed something that is objectively poor and not being able to square that circle in their mind or come up with a good way of remaining objective while also explaining their feelings at the same time. "Staying positive" is no more virtuous than "being a negative Nancy" in the context of a review, it's the arguments you make and the evidence you provide that matter, whether that paints the product in a more or less positive light is irrelevant to the larger purpose of the review: to provide an accurate assessment of a products strengths and weaknesses while accounting for the critic's personal tastes. The lead writer of this game hates the demographic who enjoys video games and superheroes and likely relished the opportunity to desecrate a beloved franchise and characters. "I can't wait to play this with friends." Good luck finding enough willing to put down money for this crap and fill out your squad, the player numbers have been in freefall since launch. "You get all the DLC free with purchase and it's not time limited!" until the publisher pulls the plug and your game is rendered indefinitely unplayable, that is. Oops. "Even if they add a battle pass, it'll be cosmetics only!" and what if it isn't? Will you still defend it? Why defend including a battle pass and microtransactions into a full-price AAA game? Why can't they just include lots of extra costumes and goodies in the base game with purchase or through economically priced DLC packs like with the previous Arkhamverse games? Because this game is a spiteful skinner-box that creates the gameplay loop with the hopes of snagging players like bugs in a web. "This is the end of the timeline so there's plenty more opportunity for actually good games featuring actually good characters!" So why didn't they make one of those games instead of this? Because this was their committee manufactured masterpiece of shit that seeks to appeal to everyone and only succeeded at appealing to desperate fools like yourself. "Elseworld is canon now so you can just disregard this entry as canon!" I already could, and introducing the multiverse doesn't make this game any better, if anything it makes it so much worse. With recent leaks and the VA for king shark confirming that Kevin Conroy recorded more stuff than what was shown in game it feels like they written the game in a way that they knew they were gonna bring the justice league back, at least flash and Batman are being revived since there is datamined voice lines of flash wondering how he came back and that Batman says walller hates them for what they did

Why do people say this game is bad? True explanation: Graphics downgrade compared to arkham knight- Disrepected deaths of every hero, except for WW because is a woman and not a toxic male (that says in the bio's)- Forced repetitive story (13 brainiacs to defeat)- Boomerang piss in Flash's body- Fortnite-like gameplay without building- Censored critics before the early access (which means WB knew it was going to fail, so they wanted to grab as much deluxe edition purchases as possible)- The final boss fight is a reskin of flash's bossfight (literally)- And the horrible death of the character that made us know Rocksteady: Arkham Batman. Opinion: This game isn't for sane humans.

0:45 This statement is very much true. For some reason people (the internet) have a tendency to think that a company is going to sink after one misstep. This is exactly what happened to Naughty Dog when the The Last Of Us Part II came out and somehow people just collectively forgot about the many games that came out before it they considered some of the best in the industry. A game company should be judged collectively based off their track record not their few mistakes. But with that being said, they should also be judged by how they improve on their mistakes as well.

A lot of the games hate definitely stems from bandwagoning. You can definitely see a trend in what reviews and criticism saying the exact same thing over and over again. People were basically shitting on the game before it even came out to the point that when it actually did come out most complaints are bottom of the barrel, meaningless whining. But that’s not to say the game is perfect. Both gameplay and writing wise there’s a lot to be desired and a lot of cringe moments. That being said my problem with the justice league dying ends at the fact that they die, not in the nature of which they die. After all the whole game just shows that Batman is right to have a contingency plan for each member, himself included.

I feel like this game could’ve hade a choice system with what you do to the justice league like a chaos system like you kill the justice league then get a bad ending if you spare them you get to cure them and team up with during the brainiac fight and get a good ending that’s just my random small pitch NGL 🗿

Rocksteady's not dead cause they made this game, their dead cause along with the Co Founders of the company about 100 or more of the original devs that made the Arkham Batman games left to start a new company, also cause they got a group (sweet baby inc) that knows nothing of the characters & that hates men (straight men at least) to write the story of a game that could've been great, heck all they had to do was just make a DC Universe Online 2.0 game & people would've loved it & they would have a live service game that they wanted a win win.

Quite the review Clownpuncher, plus you're right about the title marketing, they weren't holding back with killing the Justice League, plus they tried to show that there's no other choice because as the Flash said with the lasso of truth "We have to die to save the world", and while I'm not one of those players that pretends it isn't canon, because I respect games for what they are instead of what I expect them to be, I can offer this for those that don't see this as canon. Think of this game's story as a branched timeline that has the same past but different future, also I read Deadshot's codex file that Luthor had and it mentions the Arkham Deadshot of a Redacted origin, keeping it open for either clone, or parallel dimension variant. As for Batman's death, well Gotham Knights tried to do a heroic sacrifice for the character but there were some people who thinks the game hates Batman, and disrespected the character when they didn't understand this concept I have, different stories and universes show us different variants of characters that are similar but different you can't just get angry at a variant just because your biase for a particular favorite version blinds you from seeing the unique differences writers try to explore when adapting them, and now I'm seeing some of those same people saying accusing this game of the same thing and putting Gotham Knights in the pity spotlight for treating it too harshly. While I'm familiar with Brainiac for collecting worlds to increase his knowledge and discarding the remnants, we've seen that Brainiac do it lots of times, so I'm not tilting my head when they gave him a new motivation of making a new Colu on another planet, but not just in one universe but every dimension, even when Brainiac got the League under his control I'd imagine he would say that he merely unlocked their full potential and removed the things that were holding them back

I liked the gameplay and I think rocksteady perfected the characters in this game. But the story, oh the story wasn’t the best. Killing off Batman in this way was like killing off Joel in TLOU2, just pure disrespect, I grew up with Arkham Batman it was one of my favorite games ever and seeing my favorite version of Batman getting killed off in such a disrespectful way was really disappointing for me.

No game is for everyone. No media from any medium is for anyone. Taste is subjective.

i appreciate someone talking about the game as a game and mentioning the dialogue without solely focusing on the Arkham connection that makes up a relatively small part of the game _ edit: aight to clarify, as disrespectful to the arkham canon including the animated movie as this game is, its a relatively small aspect of the game. With actual gameplay, dialogue, characters that arent Bruce, and scenes that do not feature Bruce. Theres a lot wrong with his death but its nice to see someone talk about LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE in this game as the same small thing brought up over and over being "Batman was done dirty" while true, is 4 percent of the game. So In a nutshell, They ruined the arkhamverse cannon but who cares cus, pretty colors when i shoot stuff yay! Grade 2 humor yay! Repetitive missions yay! They tried to be daring and failed Yay! The famous Batman game Developer made a sunset overdrive game that shits all over Batman Yay! I can respect you view, Clownpuncher. I find the game a travesty, and because of all the disrespect I can't find it funny. But it's great that you did. It's just sad that this is the continuation of the Arkhamverse that we waited almost a decade to see.

It is pretty obvious that league is going to come back in some way. Even outside of the game, it makes no sense to kill them off permanently. Here are my points: 1- The Arkham franchise is still hot and popular and from a business perspective it makes no sense to just end it here especially when there’s so much to explore (we’re already getting elseworlds) 2- WB knows that they’re standing on a gold mine when I comes to Batman and the iconography of other characters like Superman, Wonder Woman and Flash, so killing off those characters and not having them return in some way is going to lose potential profits. 3- This is rocksteady! They are known for fucking with the players in shocking and dramatic ways! They have something up their sleeves we just have to wait!

I highly doubt Warner Brothers told them to do a game where the player characters shoot Batman in the face while paralyzed on a park bench. That and the whole 'Kill the Justice' narrative is Rocksteady's doing. And for that, they deserve to be shuttered

Batman talking to you over the intercom as the villain is pretty badass not gona lie. Almost reminds me of the role he played in Dark Apokolips War

I can honestly say that while I will play this eventually, it is just going to be out of curiosity, maybe I'll like it, maybe I won't, but I will never dump on something I haven't seen/played, and I'm glad that there are at the very least some people who are sane when it comes to this situation, and appreciate you for trying your best to stay sane in all the discourse and toxicity sounding this game Clown.

Another sour note on Batman's death. To me, it's framed as if this is what he deserved. Not a "bad guy bein gloaty for the sake of it" thing or anything like that. Framed as if Batman deserved that monologue and gunshot. And that makes me sick. I may be wrong, but still.

Interesting how green lanterns ring still works even though it works off willpower, seeing as his will had to be broken in order to be hypnotized

I completely agree with clownpuncher on the gameplay, it seems like it would absolutely suck, but something about it is just so fun and addictive

I think one of the reasons why I enjoy this game is that I think of it more as a Suicide Squad game rather than an Arkham game.

The league in the game are definitely clones. Green lanterns ring is still working on the shield after he dies, superman gets STABBED in the CHEST with kryptonite and then flies away. The dlc will be about reviving the justice league, I'm calling it

Bought it, been playing it, absolutely love the movement mechanics. I’ve been hooked hard on this game, and didn’t expect to.

Considering Batman has contingencies for every possible thing I think this game would’ve been infinitely better if he was the only one not controlled. Then we play as him again and he teamed up with the Squad to stop the other League members since he has an anti-weapon for all of them in case they went rouge.

I genuinely love everything about this game. The only flaw I feel is the way they made Harley so different compared to the Arkham games.
