So you're hoping Josh Trank will Trankscend his past Trankgressions? Suicide Squad definitely felt like it was cut to hell. The scene where they assembled the Suicide Squad was one of the most glaring parts. They kept switching between day and night when they cut between the Pentagon, Waller, and the Suicide Squad. The movie also seemed afraid to commit to its premise. The characters kept saying that they're the bad guys but the movie kept showing how they weren't really that bad. The Suicide Squad was probably more heroic than Batman. They certainly killed fewer people and caused less collateral damage.

My favourite part is when Enchantress fights the squad with knives then just disarms them all AFTER she fights them...

we'll Darkseid should be voiced by James Earle Jones, so we can hear him say,"you underestimate the power of the Darkseid."

So here is what I've seen reception wise Average Movie-Goers = it was fun Critics = it was very bad Blind DC Fanboys = IT WAS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE Intelligent Comic Fans = it wasn't very good

I would watch an entire movie of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman just tearing into each other.

Quick History lesson - In 1940 the German forces broke through the British and French Lines in Belgium and the Ardennes forest (previously believed to be impassable by Tanks) in a pincer movement. This cut off the main bulk of the professional (this was before conscripts had been processed) British Army (The BEF -British Expeditionary Force) from the remnants of the French Army. The British, with little chance to engage a huge German army advancing from two sides, were ordered by London, to withdraw to the channel ports for evacuation. They fell back in chaos to Dunkirk where almost half a million men had to cower on the beaches whilst royal navy destroyers (themselves under continuous bombardment from the Luftwaffe) attempted to pick them up - this proved almost impossible so the men had to queue up on the jetty as seen in the teaser trailer. Also, hundreds of yachts, (the famous ''little ships' set sail from all over England to rescue anyone they could, sometimes just 2 or 3 men, but it all helped. All the while, an exceptionally brave British rearguard of no more than a few hundred troops, held at bay the entire German army in that sector. All in all, over 300,000 men were saved, the bulk of Britains entire army in 1940. There are rumours (with absolutely zero historiograohy, or logic for that matter, that Hitler stopped his tanks in order to allow the British to get away so he could obtain a favourable political solution. This is, quite frankly, Bollocks, perpetrated by those types who like to portray Hitler as infallible. Anyway, apologies for going on, I'm a History Graduate BA (hons). Cannot wait for the film. Love the podcasts you Aussie-type people. You there, put another shrimp on thy Aga I say!

Also some of the dialogue in this movie was so cringy especially in the third act

Jay Courtney expected to be awful - was great. Will Smith not wanted as Deadshot - was great. Jared Leto massive hype and TV time - awful. Crazy editing and awesome soundtrack - somehow ended up being a music video for kids.

I still stick by the concept of the Old Republic turned into a Netflix original TV show with each season being a different time period of the Old Republic, each having its own protagonist. And it just needs to be in live action... I understand the budget might not be there but you cannot do a show like this and use the same animation of something like Star Wars Rebels, it needs the grit. Get a bunch of B-list actors, if they know how to make the characters work then why the hell not. The only aspects I can see limiting the budget is the CGI and giant scaled fight sequences, as there's a lot of mystical abilities used in the Old Republic that could use the CGI flair.

Wish there was a line when Boomerang rejoined. Something like, "Ya, I dunno how the fuck to get out of here... Looks like I'm sticking with you." Or something along those lines.

Hi mr Sunday. First time listener longish time fan. I've stared listening to you weekly planet podcasts because you guys talk for like two hours per show and I now have a boring job that takes me an hour to get to each day, so it's really good to hear two Australians swear, rate and curse movies, comic or otherwise, it makes my day. Anyway the reason for my inquiry is that I have a story I wrote several years ago after finishing the 7th Harry Potter book, and I have just listened l to your ghostbusters review where you mentioned how not much original work is coming out of Hollywood because everything is now a reboot. (I for one am kinda dreading Ben Hur, because I really enjoyed watching the original with my cousins.)Could I send you a break down of a few story ideas I've had and maybe rate them? Best or worst works quite well, and not for long just like 10 mins of your show. I'm only suggesting this because you talked about fan theories and some of them could make good stories in their own right.Let me know your thoughts and hope to hear back from you on your next podcast.

Amanda Waller and Bruce Wayne’s conflict doesn’t make sense in this universe, because they both kill people. In the comics, Batman believes that super criminals can be redeemed, but in this universe, I feel the Suicide Squad is, comparatively, a great idea.

That's a lot of blood coming out of that one robot that Batman hits in that warehouse.

I've been pushing Andre Brauer for Darkseid. He's gonna be mostly CGI anyway, voice is perfect (he's voiced him before) and he's got a good Darkseid face.

Come on guys, enough about the Batman Begins microwave emittor. It's clearly established in the movie that it uses "focused microwaves to target enemy water supplies". If you can aim the damn thing, they clearly pointed it down, as the water mains followed the train lines all the way.

Maybe DC is taking the Videogame approach by releasing vanilla in the theatre and extended/DLC version on the shelves.

Dennis Haysbert (the President from 24/The Allstate guy) would be a perfect Darkseid. Or, since he'll probably be mostly CGI, they could also bring back Michael Ironside, who voiced him in the DCAU.

Jack Nicholson's Joker was a mob boss & as you've said so have been other versions of the character, so Jared's Joker is not a big departure from the character's past, he shares a lot with the very first Joker from the Golden Age of DC comics.

If they added that scene Nick described with Captain Boomerang missing his boomerang because he's drunk, that would've brought my rating of this movie from a 3/10 to a 4/10 alone!

The Hulk rap is hilarious asf

Some Skwaddies got more to go on than others, but not every supporting character gets their life story told. Somebody has to be Hawkeye. Speaking of Avengers, the villainy was more blue sky beams and faceless Putties. But I don't think it was supposed to be a compelling plan or Enchantress a compelling villain. It was just supposed to be a mission that the Skwad can go do, so we have an excuse to see bits of their lives and who they are and their motivations, while also giving them a shot at a future. And yeah, I think it was supposed to be that everyone on the Skwad, deep down, was a good person. Harley was morally outraged and sympathetic for El Diablo's whole deal because deep down she's a good person and wants this whole crime life to come to an end, like in her Enchantress dream. They're all good people who want a shot at freedom. And then there's Captain Boomerang who's like "fuck it." I guess he could've used a "fuck it" scene to explain his return, but I got that impression from him without it. So in summary, it was a movie about characters, not a mission or a villain. Some characters were more important than others, but then again not every character can be important. It was like End Of Watch. There is no "story." It's just about character interactions.

My major issue with Joker is that it the character seems to have been written as the golden age joker(criminal genius aka Nicholson) but Leto drew too much from Ledger's portrayal of the modern psychopath joker. Also, 100% agree with the underuse of Jai Courtney.

I'm not adverse to an ABC Star Wars show. Then again, I'm one of those weirdos that likes Agents of Shield. Yes, there would be a smaller budget, but there's more to Star Wars lore than just big space battles. Also, I like what they did with Rebels. If it's awful, I just wouldn't watch it. And if the majority of people don't like it, TV shows can be cancelled and the ideas would probably be scrapped and not made canon. There's really nothing to lose.

Agreed with your take on the Joker! I actually liked everything Jared Leto did in the movie and think it would have been improved with more Joker scenes. Personally I find Jared Leto's version a lot more fun and exciting to watch than Jaoquin Phoneix's morose psyche patient thing, but thats just me!

Just listened to the bit about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which is fine but your wrong! 😉 I went to see the play last month and the story is the worst part of it. The production is well worth seeing but the story and a lot of the characters are total balls! Also, they did not find fun and interesting ways to bring back characters - they cheated and failed. ****potential spoilers ahead**** Ron - just a joke (every iteration) Hermione - only really Hermione in the prime timeline otherwise just a characature of one of her characteristics Harry - really good and performance in the play really sells the lines that may not work in the book. Relationship with Albus - Great, relationship with Draco - Bullshit. Snape - nonsense. Actor was terrible but also was just written to make people cry about things we've already been crying about for years. Albus & Scorpius - brilliant, great on stage relationship. they both get an arc but its so formulaeic that it looses any impact. Draco - it's like the first 7 books never happened. he and Harry sort of switch places for a bit 😧 Brilliant!😕😧 *******Massive Spoiler******* Voldemort - pointless, just write a new villain/threat and move the story forward... Lazy! Delphi - Obvious I liked the Idea of the relationships between Harry and Albus, Albus and Scorpius etc. but just wish it had been framed in a better story. All that said, I would still revommend seeing the play live as the production and performaces alone are worth it. Also, if you enjoyed Harry Potter and the Greatest Hits, which is fine but you're wrong, then I am eternally jealous as I travelled to London for this and really wanted to love it.
