I agree, it is still my favorite video game of all time. The game has literally everything I have ever wanted in a JRPG, with the only flaws being a somewhat weak (but still coherent) translation and fairly easy difficulty.

Two things i dont understand: 1 - Why Lucas Blight accepted Jowy on your troops if he wanted to kill him? 2 - Why Jowy continued the war againt his best friend after Lucas Blight die if Jowy's goal is stop the war in first place?

A good friend of mine is a code breaker,action replay, or a game shark or a home made code to have Solon jhee in your roster team as a player able character or any other villain I know you have two Jowys one with a highland sword and one with his staff you can have Valeria and Kasumi instead one of them you can also have spoiler alert Mcdohl as one in your sixth spot just wondering that's all!!!
Best game i was thinking Konami n Capcom should merge but now i think Konami and Camelot/Nintendo ahould merge,but i heard that Microsoft is trying to merge with Konami and or Capcom
I really disliked the good ending. It opened a ton of holes and honestly just didn't have the same impact as Riou killing Jowy and uniting the two runes.
Fighting Luca Blight was like the climax of the game for me, nothing after that comes close. A 3 part battle and levelling 18 characters just to have a fighting chance
THIS!! and the fact that it wasn't a victory. WHen the ambush took him out and he got to that pendant, his last words were his maniacal laughter and his reminder that all his death would mean is a country looking for revenge. There was no celebration, no victory, just ominous music as the fireflies floated away. Gives me goosebumps everytime
It took me a lot of attempts to defeat him and yes, it's climax of the game. Facing the Beast Rune was a bit of a let down, especially since you can use your hero from the first game.
For the longest time, Chrono Trigger was my "favorite video game" and while I did not see it being topped, I always keep an open mind when playing something new. When I played Suikoden II and experienced everything that it had to offer, I realized that I had a new favorite.
The most memorable part of Suikoden 2 for me, setting aside some of the more impactful main story beats, is the one part of the game I always refuse to do. Clive's revenge fueled manhunt of Elza not only requires you to speed run the game in order for Clive to not lose her trail, but completing the quest just leads to a tragic ending. An end where Clive finally catches up to and kills his old friend Elza only to find out that she was never the true villain that Clive always believed she was, and that she ultimately let him kill her as atonement for her unwitting part in the death of their mutual friend Kelley due to the machinations of their Howling Voice Guild's elders having a desire for a Guildmaster that they could manipulate as their own puppet.
Luca Blight is one of the most evil video game villains of all time, up there with Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. Even Satan would call Luca Blight evil.
I think Luca Blight is far more evil than Kefka. Yes, Kefka poisoned an entire town but Luca likes his victims up close and personal. He doesn't want to watch the world burn...he wants to light the match and do it himself. ;)

1. Luca force a woman to act like a pig. And then slice her and yell "dead pig!!!" 2. Riou, nanami and pilika wait for jowy at muse gate after infiltrating highland army camp. If you recap all the story into one package, its just young kids caught in a never ending war, and forced to survive and fight back. even shu realize it at the end and let them go away because sometimes it becomes unbearable and broke them mentally and physically
Most memorable part: Luca's Battle. Luca Blight is the best villain. It was necessary: be betrayed, an army, 18 stars of destiny, arrows and more arrows, and a one-on-one battle to bring him down. And if did not griding enough, you risk losing.
Nope, LB was just a textbook villian. Power hungry and motivated on revenge on the Estate and his father, the King. Jowy is the better villian. Good backstory. Has good intentions, but will do just about anything to achieve his goal. If the story revoled around him, Riou will be seen as a villain. Jowy is the best villain because he brings contrast to Riou's whole story...
The story was amazing it really played on your emotions. I loved the difference in fighting styles with Riou and Jowy. I was very pleased with the new war system as opposed to the one in the first game.
Suikoden II is one of my all time favorite JRPG's. It truly is the best in the series and the story is absolutely sublime. Everything from Jowy's betrayal to the most evil antagonist to ever be placed in gaming, Luca Blight, this game has it all and you even get to build a freaking army! Seriously, Luca Blight makes Sephiroth and Kefka look like a basket of kittens. Kefka may have poisoned a castle but Luca likes to be up close and personal to his victims. "Crawl on the ground like a pig and I will let you live. Die pig!"

Best story ever. You dont need to have a story about destroying the universe to grip your players. The stakes are as high as you make them by making characters likable and relatable as well as realistic. Perfect game
I seem to remember some talk about this a while back. Between the suikoden 2 forums on GameFAQs, and over on Suikosource. I'm talking 2 decades ago, so who knows if anything came of it. And if anything did, it may not even be there now, if those places are even still active. But those would be the places I would start looking. There were a lot of gurus on those boards back in the day.
I was lucky enough to own a physical copy of Suikoden II when it came out, and it's always been my absolute favorite game. After watching this video, I think I might have to re-play it again. As for my favorite moment, I think the night raid takes it with Neclord's demise coming in at a close second. Luca's dying speech gives me chills every single time.
Man I wish I had kept my OG copy…it was complete with everything 😭 This, FF7, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean II, so many gems I had to sell during hard hard times 😢
This is one of the best JRPGs out there but I'm deeply saddened that this was overshadowed by the other more popular ones like Final Fantasy (no hate though, love the series too with FFVIII, IX, X, XII, and Tactics as my faves!). Man, I wish some people would consider playing this masterpiece as well as the other main titles!
37:00 There is a way to Save Ridley in that battle , use Chaco with a Cavalry unit "Choose Kasumi" , you'll cover more ground per turn and you only need to Reach him with that Unit and it ends the battle in your favor .
Everyone always talks about the battle with Luca and rightly so .it's wonderfully executed..but my favourite part of the game was the return to gregminster...seeing all your old companions...I've never been so excited to get to a location in a videogame. Still my favourite game of all time.... fantastic story of war and friendship with the perfect soundtrack to accompany it.... What an trip

No true Suikoden II player would *EVER* let Ridley die in the battle of Radat. How dare you! But seriously, it is possible to save him if you overpower a few units and play very aggressively with some of the special runes, that and a little luck and having Ridley get to your troops as soon as possible leads to a funny exchange between him and Viktor. It's not easy but it's fun to do
He will not die in Radat, regardless of your choices. And canonically speaking, its Chaco who rescued Ridley, not the ninjas. Although he will really die if you tried to run away from Tinto during the Neclord arc and will be replaced by his son, Borris. I still prefer Ridley because he have the critical ability along with the more powerful skirmish unit.
@@suiken3149 I know, that's what I said "in the battle of Radat" specifically because you do get his death quote if his unit takes 2 hits of damage, I'm talking about the fact that you can save him IN THAT BATTLE. And yes, I know about Boris 🙂
I have a near mint condition copy of Suikoden II worth about $650 based on what it's selling for on Amazon. But I have no plans to sell this platinum level game.
Going off topic from your question but I’m really glad I found this channel as I’m an original ps1 gamer and nvr picked up another console after that. Nvr had the chance to pick up this game and now more than 20 years just started playing this game on pc, and I’m enjoying it so far. So thank you for bringing this game to my attention. Will you take a break or is there another game on your list to review?
To this day, my favorite video game of all time. I'm excited I can share it with my kids now. We're making our way through suikoden 1 on psvita. The first time I heard it was on psn for vita and ps3, I bought all of them right away. Totally worth it.
Even years later I can tell you how to recruit all 108 stars of destiny, and how to save Nanami. I can't help with Tir though, because I never had a copy of Suikoden I 😅

First game where I ever really felt the whole “my best friend is now against us trope”. In this game it worked, I really wanted Jowy, Riou and Nanami to be reunited. This was when jrpgs were great. Suikoden was a great series. This one was great and the third one had an amazing story. They all had good stories though. I wish we got such massive scale rpgs in today’s graphics. So many characters and personal backgrounds. And your party members could actually die, forever. Totally unheard of in that day. I now realize that Rina gave that guard head or something so you could pass lol. Jowy *swears undying loyalty to the king in ceremony.* Also Jowy *kills the king during the same ceremony* Luca Blight *Now I’m king...wait* Also why can the rune of beginning be given up by its user to an object, as Han and Genkaku do, when everyone else with a true rune can’t? Don’t they have to give it to a person or otherwise they wouldn’t be stuck being immortal?
This game is a true masterpiece, that term gets overused a lot these days but the story, the emotions it invokes the music the characters that Luca blight fight everything about this game is just incredible.
Never played this one, unfortunately. Spent way too much time trying to collect everybody in the first one lol. Think I moved on the Legend of the Dragoon after that... Which is also an amazing game!

@@cliftonsargent1572 Yuber isn't a Star of Destiny until the 3rd game. The 108 Stars of Destiny are different every game with only a few holdovers between the games. I'm pretty sure that Jeane and Viki are the only two characters present in every one of the main games. Sometimes an enemy in one game will be a protagonist in the next game and, conversely, a hero in one game will be an antagonist in the next game. All of the games take place in a different country in the same world, meaning who the good guys and the bad guys are is oftentimes a matter of perspective.
To be honest, he mispronounced alot of names in this video and maybe even in the first one. Like for instance, he kept saying "RAIYUB" village instead of "RIYUBEH"
One of the best games on PlayStation man, it was like Pokémon where you can fight and/or recruit tons of different characters. It had great characters, battle systems, story line, and a soundtrack.
I cought one part that was wrong. Shu actually didn't throw the coin into the river. He did a slieght of hand trick. After seeing their resolve, he then gave away the coin at night and joined them. I remembered this scene because it impacted me so much back then.
This game has a special place in my heart. I've finished tons of RPG's (FF series, Suikoden series, Tales series, DQ, Atelier, Octopath, and many more!). But this game will always be my favorite. I love everything about this game, especially the story. In my perspective, only a few has came close to a story like this in terms of depth, meaningfulness, etc. (FF Tactice and Suikoden 5). I love everything about this game.
If you would allow me a bit of well meant criticism: your narration and inflection sometimes sounds a bit like a preschool teacher telling the kids a story. Maybe something to work on.
Suikoden II was the perfect sequel it took a great game and improved upon it in every way while still laying homage to the original story…Konami is finally releasing a remaster of both Suikoden I and II coming out next year in 2023 I can’t wait
I loved playing this game, however I have to play it again for the best ending. (I didn't have all 108 destiny stars) Also You can save Ridley in that advancement to Dunan.
Give me a Suikoden Game directed by George RR Martin, just imagine on paper how good that could be. Flick dieing realitivly earlie, jowy's decend into Madness. We have 108 Charackters to work with and every single last one of em gets an Ark, The Games even could be a Triliogie.
LOl my favorite part of this series is how accepting the people are of weird-ass conditions. Like imagine if Riou didn't go to Tinto and A millenia old vampire strolled into your town like "so...I think im gonna crash here and build up my own spot. I smashed my little bro's Tamiya (toy car) when he pulled the plug on purpose while im on the 3rd luca epic battle. In his anger, he threw the triangular ruler at me. Then, my older brother was also triggered because of TAMIYA I smashed. Then, my mom also yelled at me. True story. This game is really epic. I fought a good fight.

Oof Julia and that Lil girl still lose out because it doesn't say that jowy even considered going back for them that princess will get found and she WILL be killed. Double oof since the new alliance is going to crumble to hell fast; the end saw the few good members of the empire (ones whose knowledge could have helped the fledgling new world order sustain itself) die after admitting that their empire would finally be on a track that led to more sensible rule. It's dark man like that's tough gundam zeta dark tough

My favorite game of all time. Such a great story. I love the whole Suikoden world. Still hoping Konami will give us one more in maybe the Nameless Lands or a whole game taking place in Harmonia. That would be a fitting way to end the series.
